Schanzenbäckerei

Sometimes you just want a cheap, easy thrill that will get you by. And Schanzenbackerei was it for several mornings. The bakery is conveniently located in the Emporio center where my hotel and office building is.
On my first time walking in, I thought Schanzenbackerei was going to be like a magnificent bakery chain in Paris. Nope! Though the bakery is nicely set up and clean with a good assortment of different pastries and bagel sandwiches, the pastries were just so so. I got three different pastries on different mornings: an almond croissant, a tartlet with fruits and custard, and a pastry with cinnamon. All the pastries were super affordable though under 2 Euro. The pastries were fine, but I wish they were able to toast them. They were cold and not as flaky as I would have liked. I liked how the pastries were not overly sweet though; I find that at American bakeries this can be an issue. Though they had a good assortment of baked goods, I was surprised not to see a plain butter croissant. And I was curious to try the currywurst croissant but refrained as it seemed a little heavy. They also have a fully stocked refrigator with drinks and other cold breakfast and lunch items.
2.5 stars rounded up for convenience and friendly but very straightforward staff. It’s cheap, easy and will get you by when you’re craving carbs!

Diese Schanzenbäckerei ist ziemlich neu. Gleich nach der Eröffnung des Hotels Scandic wurde auch diese Bäckerei eröffnet. Sie bietet wie die anderen Schanzenbäckereien auch folgendes an: belegte Brötchen, Plundergebäck, Getränke, Salate und Mittags Nudelgerichte. Die Servicekräfte sind freundlich. Jedoch kann ich dem Schanzenbäcker maximal 2 Sternchen hier vergeben. Und das wirklich jedem Schanzenbäcker in der Stadt. Das Brot, die Brötchen oder auch das Gebäck ist nicht schmackhaft. Da gibt’s wirklich deutlich bessere. Die Preise finde ich schon ziemlich gepfeffert. Apfelplundergebäck 1,60 EUR. Schmeckt nur nach Zucker, sind drei Scheiben Äpfel drauf und Unmengen an Zuckerguss. Das gleiche gilt auch für die Kirschtaschen. Ich bin was besseres gewohnt und das zu einem anderen Preis. Die Brötchen bestehen hauptsächlich aus Luft und auch der Geschmack ist neutral. Schmeckt nicht nach einem Brötchen. Die belegten Sachen sind noch OK. Da alle gepimpt ist mit diversen Saucen und Salaten. Pluspunkt: hat früh auf und der Service ist freundlich. Was nicht geht sind die Preise für diese Qualität. Ich gehe nur hin wenn es nicht anders geht und laufe lieber 5min länger zum nächsten Bäcker und kaufe das Brot dort.
