There’s food you eat because you’re hungry, and then there’s food you eat because you have hunger. Numnum falls into the second category. At numnum, food is art. This is not like any other restaurant experience I’ve ever had in Ankara. We always order delivery but they get 5 stars across the board — food quality, quantity, service, speed and consistency. Each experience-and don’t get it confused, this is an experience, not a meal-has been more than satisfactory. Sure, sometimes the food is too oily but the quality never wavers. And then some nights-like tonight-it becomes something else entirely. I have tried items from across their menu– veggie and tuna salads, chicken entrees, beef burgers, salty sides– and have not once been disappointed. Any entrée can easily be split between two people when paired with a side(yes, even salads and burgers!). My fiancé and I usually split the Basil/Needle Chicken(not sure what the Turkish name is but that’s what comes up on the Google translator) with a side of fries or onion rings. The thing about numnum is the food is never boring. The basil chicken comes with sauteed vegetables(red and yellow bell peppers, broccoli, onions, green beans, tomatoes), herb roasted potatoes and simple grilled chicken(I think there’s yogurt mixed in somewhere? plus another 2 pieces with a zucchini wedged between) plus pine nuts. Why is this important? Because this is what makes it worth the higher price. You will not find any item that has been carelessly paired with a side, and THIS is what makes numnum a culinary, gastro experience. This is what satisfies the hunger instead of just feeding the hungry. Even their damn $ 8 onion rings(can be split between 2 – 4 people) are coated with some lemon zest and served with lemon wedges for sprinkling! As I sit here with my greasy lemony hands typing this, I have only one thing left to say: Numnum, I love you, don’t ever change.
