Food was excellent and not very expensive. I had the minute steak with shaved horseradish and egg with a side of fries and they were delicious. My wife had the meatballs with mashed potatoes, lingonberries and cucumbers and they were excellent. We had the Operabarens Pilsner which is their own beer and it was quite good made locally not too far away.

I was there for lunch, which was expensive even for a city lunch, and while the meatloaf I had was very good, the potato was under cooked, and service was only decent. I had high expectations and it was disappointing that the fundamentals were not perfect — not bad in any way, but for the price tag, there are several better options around.

Blakficken is an easy going laid back casual type of restaurant but offers a terrific bargain when it comes to real quality good tasting Swedish food since it is a part of the Operakallaren(Opera Cellar), one of Stockholm’s more prestigious and classy restaurants. Hence the food you get at Blakficken is pretty the same but priced far lower. I started off with assorted pickled herring, which was totally delightful as a starter with a great taste as well as texture to the fish; so totally unlike the herring that comes in those jars. Then, I had the salmon with a dill which again had a marvelous taste and done to perfection leaving no doubt in my mind that if there is one thing the Swedes can do and do well, it is fish. The service I had couldn’t have been better and I also enjoyed the very hip bistro type atmosphere of Blakficken,

Pleasant place to visit. The staff are a bit aloof at first, but the food is very good. They also serve their own beer(which is great). Check the specials board. Had the prawns on toast followed by stuffed quail on a bed of risotto.

Amazing meatballs ! I’ve tried many meatballs with mash in Stockholm and this place has the best ! Also their Cod fish is very good. Really great atmosphere. Be aware, the place is very small and difficult to seat groups larger than two together. Due to their«bar» type tables.

Traditional Swedish food served in fairly small and crowded environment, where you really should be seated at the three cornered bar. Not possible to make reservations, so most likely you have to wait to be seated. The atmosphere is great and most often you have a superb dining experience! Recommended!

After spending the morning at the Vaca Museum, we grabbed a cab to this restaurant based on a quick look at the reviews. The cab driver wasn’t aware of the place, but the address got us there fine. We were slightly early for lunch, but they seated us right away in the outdoor street café, delightful. The restaurant sits on a very quiet street across from a historic church. We all chose to eat a traditional Swedish Meatball lunch complete with Linden-berry relish. The meal was savory and satisfying. They first brought out homemade pickled cucumber. It was tangy, yet light and refreshing. As we proceeded to eat, the restaurant started to fill up with local business people. It is obviously a local favorite. Many of them were dining on other choices, like fresh fish. Overall, very nice experience. We left stuffed and ready to spend the afternoon shopping.

Having never been to Stockholm before a friend showed myself and my band mates around Old Town. We were super hungry so he insisted on taking us to this exquisite dining experience right next to the Opera House. Bakfickan is an incredibly renowned restaurant throughout Sweden and Europe so we were eager to try their food– it was very busy so we had to sit inside but that didn’t matter in the slightest! Our waiter was hilarious and spoke perfect English and really helped us out when deciding on our meals. I ordered the Steak Tartare with Sides and it was amazing! I must have eaten almost 500g of raw beef but I didn’t feel ill at all because it was so fresh and the sides(red onion, horseradish, raw egg) blended so well with the meat. I definitely want to make it back here to try something else before I leave!

The dishes of this restaurant are a gastronomic orgasm! We tried the famous Swedish meatballs and a lingon sherbet as dessert and… OHGOD! I’m totally going back here to try the other dishes! HIGHLYRECOMMENDED!

A bit tough to get in, but clean and tasty food. We came as part of a group of six for dinner and after a little bit of time, managed to find a few seats fairly close to each other in groups of three. Our trio split the seared char, a fried herring special, and the meatballs. The seared char was very fresh and tasty, while the herring was interesting due to it being fried; I wouldn’t say that it was my favorite preparation, but it was a lot better once you cut it with the lemon. The meatballs, however, were the standout – flavorful and accompanied with a sauce and lingonberry side that went very well with the meat. We also split a rhubarb dessert that was a nice way to close out the meal. It’s not terribly expensive, and all the dishes were well prepared. I found the service to be pretty good but a little hurried, probably due to the small space and generally sparse waitstaff. In general, though, I’d recommend this place, especially for the meatballs, but moreso for smaller groups.

Amazing! You must try the Biff Rydberg. It is one of the most delicious meals I have ever had. I recommend that you pair it with the Jämtlands IPA if you like IPAs.

My friend and I absolutely LOVED this place! It’s a quaint, small little place but is very centrally located. The meatballs with potato purée were the best dish we had in Stockholm! Be sure when you get to the restaurant to enter the door on the left.

Around the backside of the opera building lies the restaurant Bakfickan which means«the Hip Pocket». This small restaurant contains just 28 seats and they’re placed around a large counter and the along the interior walls. In the summertime there’s nice seating available outside on the sidewalk. On the sidewalk is where I sat and I absolutely loved it. I got to people watch and stare at the lovely Jakob’s church while I ate my dinner. Bakfickan serves traditional Swedish food, so I just had to try their Swedish meatballs. I had to, right? Read the other reviews, so did everyone else :-) The meatballs were great and served with puréed potatoes, lingonberry sauce, and cucumber slices. What’s also great is they were the lowest priced entrée in the menu. The crayfish toast was also terrific. I never had that before. I love that the chef maticulously removed the crust off of the bread. Yay for the presentation(see my pic). Also no complaints with the service. The waitstaff made me feel very welcome even though my mouth gave away I was a tourist the moment English came out of it. There were a mix of both locals and tourists surrounding me and it appeared everyone received the same great treatment.

I wanted to have Swedish meatballs while in Stockholm and saw this restaurant was well-rated. Wow. The meal was incredible. Each element of traditional meal was perfectly done. Exceeded my expectations. Service was excellent as well. I’m only here another night but I will be tempted to return.

I went in not expecting much and without any prior information on either its popularity or specialities. I set the bar low as being in the centre of all tourist attractions, I expected it to be a tourist trap. Boy, was I wrong!!! I am a vegetarian but if you happen to not be, make sure you get the speciality meat balls. It comes with the best mashed potatoes I have had. I think I would kill for it :) I had the seasonal asparagus but my mouth was watering for the mashed potatoes of my companion. I hear the meat balls were a killer too. When in Stockholm, back to Bakfickan :)

Delicious Swedish food by the water. Had the herring sampler plate(the smorgasboard of herring – not sure if this is an accurate description!) that was quite interesting and delicious! Swedish meatballs also on point. Everyone raved about the bread and butter(real butter!) alcohol definitely on the more expensive side. All in all, first meal in sweden is a success. Oh and love the hipster atmosphere!

YUMMY! Came to Bakfickan on our recent trip to Stockholm and it did not disappoint! This place is kinda small with a U-shaped bar in the middle and a few 2-person tables on the sides of the room. When we arrived the restaurant was POPPIN so we had to split into 2 and 4(we had a group of 6). We got the meatballs(must), baked pork(the night’s special) and the beef tartare(bomb). The food here was SOGOOD! The ligonberry and the pickles that accompanied the meatballs were soo delicious! The baked pork was a bit over baked imo since it was kinda hard to chew but the flavors were tasty! The beef tartare… no words, just get it. When you are visiting this place, make sure to go to the doors on your LEFT! Bakfickan is the restaurant on the left. The restaurant on the right(that has fewer patrons and a «fancier» feel) is another restaurant. It can be a bit confusing since they both share the same entrance but doesn’t really specify which restaurant is which. But I believe the restaurant on the right is michellin rated so I suppose the food must be good also. Bakfickan and this restaurant share the same kitchen hence the same entrance? Anyway our waiter was super friendly and overall we had an enjoyable and delicious dinner here.

I was in Sweden. There was one thing I wanted to eat. Meatballs. Touristy? Sure. But dammit, there I was. And after a day walking around the city, I was hungry for them. So I typed it into Unilocal, and what do you know, I’m right around the corner from a solid place. Easy to find if you know where to look, but otherwise, you might walk right past. Don’t. Walk in. It’s classically decorated in dark red with white linens on the table, but unlike some other spaces, very reasonably priced. I started with another favourite — steak tartar, which was a little bland to tell you the truth(although it did come with some nice seasoned mayor in dollops around the plate.) But the meatballs. Oh my. Rich and delicious and in a fantastic sauce. It also came complete with three bowls — a generous portion of mashed potatoes, thinly sliced pickles and lingonberries. Amazing, especially a bite of all four things together. In no way am I am expert on Swedish meatballs — my knowledge begins and ends with the stuff I get at IKEA — but I know delicious food, and this was delicious food. The service was quality, the food came out quick and the place quiet but nice. If you’re looking for a spot to eat while travelling and in the area, this is where I’d go.
