Meat potato and cheese are the usual food suspects in Czech republic, especially for tourists. The country’s diet is slowly changing to be healthier, but don’t expect wonders. The crude patio is out back and sits along the river. It feels makeshift and precious. With a daily diet of fried cheese and beer in Cesky Republica I felt ready for some wholesome clean vegetable focused food. The crudite seemed fresh but was limited and pretty much the exact same thing that was on the salad. I didn’t try the hot entrees but your paying for the atmosphere and the novelty of eating vegetarian in eastern Europe. I’d probably just go buy some stuff at a market instead and head down to the river and find a public spot to picnic. I did become friends with my waiter. We still keep in touch.

4 of us ate here & were super excited to see vegetarian. It smelled fantastic! The reviews were great but our food experience did not match the reviews. The red curry was served cold to two of us. The potato pancake had little flavor, & we just ate the inside filling out of it. It was like a thick crêpe. The pesto pasta looked fantastic but tasted bland. Our male server was Awesome! Very kind and attentive. He was very accommodating & suggested options that allowed us to try a lot of different things. The beer tap/lines had frozen so no draft beer. Bummer. The guac was good. We all agreed we wouldn’t necessarily return. They open at 11

Let’s be honest, the food I Eastern Europe can get a little meat centric at times, and there is only so long you can go eating pork and potatoes before you begin to crave a different form of sustenance. Luckily, laibon is there for you in this moment of need with a varied menu of herbivorous treats from a range of cuisines with a focus on Mexican and Indian. I had the burrito which was out of this world with some chilli, guacamole and more black beans than you can poke a stick at. I also tried the pakora, the guacamole and the goats cheese with cranberry, none of which gave me any reasons to complain. Vegetarian or not, if you ever find yourself in cesky krumlov you should get to laibon for some seriously good chow.

My accommodation recommended this restaurant located along the river in Cesky Krumlov. It was a beautiful spot to enjoy lunch with views of the town along the river and the candy-colored tiered tower. We ended up lingering after a long lunch as it was so enjoyable to just relax beside the river. The restaurant offers an extensive and interesting menu of vegetarian fare. A friend and I were having a difficult time choosing and we decided to share a «labyrinth of tastes», a selection of several of their dishes. I’m glad we did as it offered a good selection with a variety of items and spices. A couple had a higher spice level, but were not overly hot. Everything we tried was excellent, fresh and flavorful. Meat was not missed. We also tried the ginger lemonade. It was quite strong and neither of us were fans. This was the only disappointment in the menu however. The owner came and talked to us after we finished. He was friendly, interesting to talk to and seemed to genuinely enjoy meeting his guests from other countries. We both liked that he took the time to have a conversation with us.

Prepare to get lost in a labyrinth of tastes! Order this dish or any of their other vegetarian wonders to get a full sampling of food from all over the world. Your tastebuds will explode. Then finish with the piping hot blueberry dumplings covered in cream. David and Mark treated us all like family. They are adorable, well-traveled and speak dozens of languages! It’s rare to find such happy hospitable hosts in one of the busiest restaurants in town! Hands down my favorite place to eat in Cesky Krumlov. Would recommend this place to anyone!

OOOOHHHSHITTT …was our reaction when we received our food at Laibon. We had an awesome experience at this restaurant. The food was incredible(we got the labyrinth of tastes that can be served to 1 – 4 people aka a giant plate of all their specialties), we got to sit alongside the river at dusk, and side note, our waiter was really really cute and I checked, he’s not married. YASSSSSWELOVETHISPLACE!

If you heard someone say they didn’t like Tina Fey, do you think you’d ever be able to trust them again? Correct answer: Hell-to-the-naw. And that’s exactly how I feel about anyone who would dare say they don’t absolutely LOVE Laibon. It’s so good. Like, Tina Fey good. Like, we were only in Cesky Krumlov for 2 days and we came here to eat 4 times. FOURTIMES. I was going to look up fancier words for ‘delightful’ in the thesaurus to describe our experience(s), but then I thought(the thought I almost always come to), ‘f*ck it!’. I’ll just tell the reader the effort I was planning on putting into my descriptive and that’ll be a measure in and of itself. Did it work? I can’t hear you. I’ll assume it worked. … and that you think I look thin today. Thank you. So anyway. This place. It’s outstanding… as is the entire town of Český Krumlov, which I think may have been my most favorite destination of our entire trip which included Prague, Munich, Dusseldorf, Cologne, and Brussels. If you’re anywhere near the region of Bohemia, do yourself the favor and book some time in Český Krumlov and bookmark this listing to be sure you don’t pass up this gem. The menu is strictly vegetarian but even our Eastern European, meat-eating, dining companions couldn’t put their forks down and were highly suggestive about coming back for the lion’s share of our meals while staying in the city. They have a cozy and beautiful outdoor patio on the river but we sat in side as it was late November and balls cold outside. Inside is like a rustic, subterranean, Earthy cave-dwelling with dining areas set apart so that event when the restaurant is full, you feel like you’re in a private dining type scenario. Our server the first night was this magical man named David. Blonde hair, blue eyes, and the fittest soccer body you have ever scene. Calves for days. He’s bubbly and giggly and either a very manly Muppet or a Muppet of a man. I’ll let you decide. David is also a first-class world traveler and possibly one of the most interesting people we’d ever met in our entire lives. He was more-than-well-versed in all things Southeast Asia and spoke about 10 billion languages. If you needed something – anything. Even things beyond the scope of what a regular restaurant would offer, David’s got a guy. He really made the experience our first night out and for the rest of the trip our conversations were peppered with mentions of a very memorable David. The food is very much inspired by India and Pakistan and while there are tons of options on the menu, I highly recommend their sharing platter. You get to pick eight(I think) different options off the menu and it serves 3 – 4. We got a different platter every time and there wasn’t a single thing that we didn’t find lick-worthy. They serve a variety of fresh juices and teas as well. I ordered up one tea our first night in as my dinner, as I’d been poisoned earlier in the day by a restaurant in another town and spent a good part of the rest of the day barfing up my inner organs and felt that tea would be a good way to ease back into digesting things. Fresh ginger tea to be exact. The tea is made by friend of David’s and was absolutely the best tea I’ve ever had, ever. Each person at my table tried it and was also blown away. I drank two pots of that tea myself and and felt like I’d gone through a full body detox but without any of the nasty stuff that normally goes along with a full body detox. A hefty meal that left all 4 of us stuffed to the brim with drinks ran us around 65 total, I think. That included 2 appetizers, drinks for all and a giant shared platter that we could barely finish, but you could easily stuff yourself here for under $ 8. Laibon for life!
