Nice restaurant of the center of cesky krumlov! Excellent food and meat in particular. Loved the barbecue atmosphere (even if the air is a bit smoky…) !
We were lucky because we didn’t reserved but I really advise you to do it !

This place is an experience for sure. Its a fire roasted meat place in a cave. We arrived and thought it was closed because no lights and no people or sound. However, once we got the door open we found it full of people and lucky to get a seat without a reservation.
It was good food. The beer was slightly watery. It was about an hour wait from ordering to serving. Your clothes might smell like smoke if you are sitting close to the fire.

This place is great, it really captures that medieval feel that the whole town has. Even from out side you can smell the food being cooked on the fire. You go in and the whole staff is super friendly. They have a pretty exiting menu at a good price. I will certainly recommend the pork knee and the grill platter. Absolutely amazing! The house wine is delicious as well. If you are ever in Cesky Krumlov, don’t miss out on this place.

Thankfully it was off season so we were able to get a table without reservations though had to sit outside. Food was so nice looking one Chinese tourist walking by came up and took a picture of my plate (without asking). Ok, that was weird. Ribs, meat platter for one, and lamb chops were all ordered. Side dishes were fascinating and the ribs along with the chicken was outstanding. Lamb chops were on the peppery side — probably wouldn’t order those again but otherwise this place is amazing. Four of us had beers as well and finished with a check, including 10 percent tip (standard) for $ 54.00.

I was about to give them 5 stars, just to find out that we had different menu than the one online — makes me think of it wasn’t one of those tricks (different menu for foreign people)?.. The other version would be that they forgot to update their website, still, the difference in the meal we had (same meal in both menus) was in 90, —
Otherwise:
The SERVICE — was very nice and fast
ATMOSPHERE — cool medieval with the view of the grill, seeing the chef to prepare the food, nice quitter area but still in the centre
TIMING — perfect
FOOD — delicious roasted pork knee
VALUE — that depends on the menu issue
The only improvement — the bathroom area could see a bit of work/​tidier

A visit to this popular restaurant can be equated to dying and going to carnivore heaven. Walking through the unassuming curtain at the front door, you are greeted by the warmth of the fire that is smack bang in the middle of the front room, adorned with meats of all description that are soon to popular the plates of the hungry diners that the restaurant is sure to be filled up with.
We got a little over zealous with the ordering and the waitress held us back (bless her), and even with our toned down order we still left absolutely stuffed. The pork knee was a highlight, as was the grilled Camembert with cranberry (and everything really!). A must visit, and bookings very highly recommended especially if you want to sit inside.

Service a little slow. Ordered Platter for 2 Chicken, Steak, and Pork with potatoes, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, pickles. Less than $ 25 per couple. Enough for 3 people. Advice is to only order the chicken.
Staff is friendly. Plan on making a reservation.

Quality BBQ at a surprisingly affordable cost!!! Cool inside and we loved sitting next to the fireplace where they warmed the meat. You need a reservation though, or they might dismiss you immediately if it’s high season. This place is packed because people know it’s excellent. For three people, we ordered the mix meat platter for two and the ribs. More than enough for all of us and we got to try a little of everything. Could have feed four of us.

The interior of the restaurant looks and feels like a cave, though not damp, it is comfortable and has low lighting (and is probably better decorated than a traditional cave as well). The meat is cooked on an open flame. And meat there is. This is not a restaurant for a vegetarian. The menu is meat, meat, meat with a side of potatoes. A friend and I shared a mixed meat plate that came with ribs, beef and chicken with sides of baked potatoes (with sour cream and horseradish sauce), a potato pancake and some cabbage (don’t discount the cabbage though, it was quite good and the light item on an otherwise heavy plate) and, because we underestimated the size, an additional order of ribs. The meat platter had a sauce and the ribs were dry rubbed. The additional rib plate had really good bbq sauce (though the ribs were very well flavored without), spicy mustard and grated horseradish. There was very little taking as the food was consumed, it was just that good. The portions are huge. We finished about one of the meals and took the rest back with us. I would recommend considering sharing a meal, the ribs and the side of the potato pancakes are my recommendations as they were the standouts. The restaurant offers the standard variety of drinks but also has warm mead.
Even though it was a Monday evening, the restaurant was pretty busy. The interior tables were booked with reservations and the outdoor tables also required a wait. If you are in Cesky Krumlov during peak season and want to eat inside, which you do, you my want to make a reservation.

The owner of Pension Nostalgia recommended us this restaurant. I’m not much of a meat eater but I was so very glad we went. Best bbq meat we’ve had on our entire trip. The meat was so tender, they just fall off the bone. And so very tasty. They were totally packed that night. Thanks to Vladimier, the owner at Pension Nostalgia used his «connection» to get us a table for two. So be sure you make reservations ahead of time, especially during high season.
My husband had spare ribs and I had the lamb. Portions were very generous. AND, the price was incredible. Two full orders come to less than US$ 25 including gratuity.
The interior is decorated as if you’re sitting in a cave … very unique décor.

Another restaurant in Český Krumlov where you can enjoy kind a medieval atmosphere. It´s hidden in one side street close to main square but it´s worth to find it.
Service is good. It can be a bit slower when the place is crowded but it´s not so bad. They are nice (could be worse, we are in a tourist restaurant) and sometimes even with the smile on their face :-)
Meals are the same like in Maštal restaurant (the same owner). Mostly based on any meat of any animal what can be grilled with apple in its mouth. This place is not really for vegetarians. They have some salads but that´s all. It´s mainly for meat lovers.
They have a garden too. Not big, rather small, in front of the restaurant on the side walk. But there are no cars going around, or like one or two per day so it´s not a big deal.
So enjoy beer, medovina (honey liquer) and some big piece of meat :-)

Brillant barbecue or meets cooked on an open indoor fireplace. Also try the honey cake (medovnik) — mead drinks.
