Excellent meal and service. We had been working in the area and despaired of the hotel food. Our cab driver recommended we visit. Fixed price menu very good value for money and the waiter suggested a reasonable wine to accompany the main. Cannot over-praise the beetroot and barley risotto — brilliant. From complimentary drink to start and coffee to finish we enjoyed every mouthful. Thank you.

Lovely restaurant. Not the biggest but you are not crushed at your table. A very good selection of quality dishes that are equally well presented. Definately a restaurant for the special occassion

Excellent food, had wanted to dine here for some time, so was pleased to get the chance. The only thing letting it down a star was the service. Our party of 3 agreed that we had to be quite obvious in our attempts to order extra drinks/the bill, and in a place where the menu is on the more expensive side, I like a check back and drinks order part way through the meal. We’ll definitely be back as the food was delicious.

Great restaurant. Been a couple of times now and was very impressed both times. Staff very friendly and professional. Food delicious. Not too expensive for such quality. Love it.

Smith’s is a really classy restaurant at the north end of Uddingston. It’s not something that jumps out at you which is really why Unilocal is great, as it points you to such destinations. The food was lovely, we had the set lunch meal which had a lot of options to choose from, and they all sounded appealing. The service was great too. It’s a little but dearer than other places but you get a lot more quality for your money. Check out my photos of the awesome food! I’m sure I will be back.

What an amazing wee restaurant. We were given vouchers for here from last Christmas… can’t believe it took us this long to get round to it! We went for lunch about 1.30ish on Friday afternoon. It was really busy but luckily there was a table free. The lunch menu is £14.50 for 2 courses and I thought it was really good value. The food was sublime(not what you would expect in Uddingston!). I had a Butternut Squash Veloute with a poached egg and some a parmesan twill. Watching all the food programmes going, I had saw this made a few times and always wanted to try it. It was soooo good. Basically it is just a fancy soup but the beautiful poached egg and the veloute were so delicious and creamy. I then had slow braised beef with mash potatoes, glazed vegetables and gravy. There was a huge portion of delicious soft beef. The mash was creamy and yummy. All in all, it was one of the best dishes I have had in a long time. We then shared a Banana sticky toffee pudding as we were too full to have one each. The sponge was lovely and soft and the bananas were caramelised on top. Truth be told, I could have probably ate this myself looking back. Staff were lovely and attentive. I never tried any wine but they had an extensive list. Go here if you want amazing food at a reasonable price.

Magnificent meal in a small but excellent restaurant in uddingston. Delicious unusual menu. Worth a visit for a special occasion but book in advance if it’s the weekend. Pricey but worth it.

This restaurant is lovely! The atmosphere is cosy with beautiful décor and real attention to detail. The space is not huge but they have decided not to cram tables in and instead simply have a fewer number of them. The food here is delicious. Portions are just right. For the starter, I had the pigeon breast– it was succulent, full of flavour & well presented. I then had the fish and chips– absolutely fantastic! The wine was brilliant and when you arrive, you get a complimentary cocktail. The staff were friendly and only spoke to us to check the meal was ok. We dined on the pre theatre menu which was great value for money. I will be back here very soon!

Smiths is amazing. Just, amazing. I’ve been here quite a few times and I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed with anything they do! Also it’s about a two minute walk from my house which is rather convenient. My(massive) family have eaten together at Smiths a couple of times for special occasions as well and they are so accommodating! They arranged the tables so we didn’t all have to sit in wee groups of four or anything and they just can’t do enough to help.(Also kudos to them for actually managing to deal with the headcases I’m related to, never mind anything else…) They always start you off with a wee fizzy wine cocktail as well which is just lovely, had to get that in there! The food itself is brilliant, absolutely can’t find anything to complain about even a little bit! If you are a fan of beef, do yourself a favour and get the braised blade of beef — it’s so tender and delicious, I usually go to try something else as a main and end up going for the beef cause it’s simply divine. That said, everything I’ve had in Smiths has been really, really good! Another great point is that they’re also really good with food allergies and dietary requirements. My parents have been with their friends — one of whom is gluten intolerant — a fair few times and they are always happy to advise on what she should avoid and what she can eat on the menu, as well as providing gluten free rolls and other such substitutes. My poor cousin’s wife was expecting both times my family visited Smiths, last time in particular there were lots of starters she couldn’t have due to containing things like soft egg, goats cheese and pâté which she needed to steer clear of. She asked if she could just have garlic bread or something instead and they did that for her no bother, it wasn’t a problem at all! Smiths is definitely also very reasonably priced, especially considering the quality of food and service you get! I’ve paid more in other places and not had anything like as good an experience as you get here. This review has made me realise that it’s been far too long since I’ve eaten in Smiths, so I think I’ll need to find an excuse to go back soon! GO!

SmithS is one of my new favourite restaurants! I’ve driven past the restaurant numerous times and wanted to try their food, and now I finally have. What a meal! Located on the Main Street of Uddingston, just outside Glasgow, SmithS is a Scottish-French fusion brasserie restaurant. The restaurant is like a quaint little bistro which is cosy and warm. When you first walk in, it’s hard to believe that this modest restaurant had beaten Michelin star restaurants for the title of Scottish Restaurant of the Year. When you taste the food it all makes sense! I must must MUST mention the truly brilliant staff at this point. If you are, or dine with someone who is following a gluten free diet then you’ll understand the nerves, anxiety and often, the inconvenience of ordering a meal. When booking we mentioned that one member of our party required gluten free, as we usually do. Practically everywhere requires you to re-tell them when you arrive and they faff about with the menu, checking and rechecking with the chef. Not in SmithS. As soon as we sat down the waitress showed us the gluten free menu, explained everything and actually knew what she was talking about. The selection of food suitable for a coeliac/gluten free diet was absolutely brilliant. Even when ordering, delivering food she reassured us that items — the shortbread for example — were suitable. It was lovely to be reassured rather than feel like you’re pestering staff! I was so impressed. I can’t articulate the beauty of the food I ate — you simply have to go yourself and try it! In case you aren’t 100% clear: I loved it. See my full review with photographs at House of Herby —

I don’t normally do reviews unless an establishment is either very good or very bad. Smiths is neither. It is absolutely FANTASTIC! Devine food at very reasonable prices. We phoned ahead and booked a table for a Saturday afternoon 2 course lunch, just as well as it was packed which is always a good sign. Not the biggest of rooms, but that just adds to the ambience. Excellent, non intrusive service topped off a lovely afternoon.

I have eaten in this restaurant on several occasions and have never been disappointed. The service is first rate and the one big distinction which I enjoy is they never seem to be in a hurry to get rid of you. Food; never had a bad meal and none of the other people who been there with me either. There is always something on the menu which is really good. Specials as well. Pricewise; not too bad either considering what you can pay just for peice of cardboard pizza in some places. The one thing I will say is watch your head when going down the stairs to the toilets. Not alot of headroom for tall folk. Toilets, clean and tidy.
