St John’s Yard

Enjoyed a very pleasant evening here last Saturday evening. It was a friend’s 30^th birthday bash and there were around 20 of us quite a large party but they coped with us fantastically well. The staff were obviously under pressure as the rest of the bar and eating areas were buzzing as well, but they never seemed hurried and had time to share a word or two with some of us. One of the staff members (was it just me or were they 100% young ladies?) noticed me waving a camera and offered to take photos of our party, which she did to great effect. The food was excellent; we had made our selections in advance, which helped with the service of course. There was a good variety of starters, mains and afters and we were all well pleased with our choices. Happily I wasn’t picking up the tab but I gather mine host was well chuffed with the total cost. One small criticism hot food served on cold plates not something I expect in the 21^st century!

I went to st johns yard for my boyfriends birthday, finding it difficult to get 8 people in somewhere on a saturday night they were more than happy to fit us in. Looking over the menu, the food was pub grub with a twist, offering lamb chops with a dip, lamb pattie with houmas, even mixing it up with a seafood dish. quite refreshing.
The food came out and was exactly what was expected from the menu, could even go as far as to say BETTER! The salad garnish was fresh and dressed, the fries cripsy, chops well cooked and seasoned to perfection and the dip was garlicky and tasty to my boyfriends horror!
After a pleasant chocolate dessert, and to much too drink we settled up and were on our way.
The 7 other diners were impressed with my selection of venue, and we have all threatened to return. From the relaxed but lively atmosphere to the quirky, cosy décor, id definately reccomend.
we left in high spirits, full and a bit merry. LOJ

So please I’ve found this pub on qype!
Have only been in for a drink so far but was really impressed with the menu choices that we are planning on going back this weekend.
Charming pub, great location I reccommend it to anyone that want’s a good night out

wow you should see the size of the garden, I agree with the above bit of a gem a little out of the town but worth the 4 minute walk. from the looks of things they are going to start doing out side cinema? a group of 4 of us had dinner here also and was impressed with the experience. give it a go but I reconmend this bar.

A hidden gem away from the hustle bustle of the centre of town, have been here a few times for lunch and for a friends birthday function. Very relaxed atmosphere serves a great pint and food was excellent.
Possibly one of the best beer gardens around town and on a sunny day a perfect suntrap, you have to try the St John’s Royale! i’ll be back as soon as i can.
