Absolutely fantastic food. An absolute must. I highly recommend the Momo’s(either beef or veg; they are both superb). The Tibetan Thali(sample 3 dishes) is great value and a must for first timers. Say yesss to the(free) chai tea.

Cute and cosy takeaway with tasty, non greasy food that’s a little different from the usual fare on offer elsewhere. I couldn’t decide so I copied the bloke in front and got a thali for £7.50 with mutton, sesame chicken and tofu dishes. Also includes rice and a momo/dumpling. I got a beef momo and would definitely recommend. It also comes with a little pot of chilli sauce which is tasty rather than scorching. There’s a nice little sitting area with lots of comfy looking furnishings that I’d be happy to sit and eat a meal in. Not something you can say for many takeaway places! I also got a free and delicious chai tea while waiting for my food(not that the wait took long). Maybe I’ve been moving in the wrong circles but this was the best chai I’ve ever drunk. One thing to be aware of is to check that they’re open as they close at 10.00 which is fairly early for a takeaway. They also seem to have taken plenty of holidays lately(dates noted on their website). In fact it’s taken me longer than planned to try it as I keep thinking of it at the wrong time.

My absolute favourite place to eat when I visit the area. Authentic tastey food and great value for money. Family run business and the chef sunny is such a pleasant fella. You are greeted with a warm reception and if you are unsure about the dishes he will explain what each dish is. On a few occasion he has just thrown together a variety of ingredients to create something fantastic. I recommend the thali as you have a variety of 3 dishes. The beef momo are a must. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. People discover the tastes of tibetan kitchen from festivals all over the UK. Well it’s home is in Manchester

Well after reading the reviews of this little café on the fringes of Chorlton it was finally time to try the place. I love mo mo’s and was lucky enough to eat them in Dharamsala home to the Dalai Lama where they had me hooked from the first taste in another café called Tibetan Kitchen. They are either steamed or fried and are heavy on ginger which suits my tastes. They are a bit like dim sum but are a Tibetan staple. Well Tibetan Kitchen in Manchester had a lot to live up to and to my happy surprise they hit the mark the mo mo’s were fried and were tasty spicy and evocative of the food I had eaten previously. We decided to get take away as the inside of the café although homely is small and was busy at the time and elected to try the shamong which is a vegetarian dish with green beans and mushrooms. The flavour was familiar for those who like Asian food but different enough not to be described as a curry, I would say more of a rich a spicy stew served with basmati rice and absolutely lovely. My wife had a beef dish which she also said was amazing and we both very impressed with the quality of the meal. The staff are very friendly and in addition to the food while you wait will provide you with a cup of chai, another memory of India a spiced tea that accompanies virtually every meal. There are a few other dishes on offer I am still to try as well as a thali and a range of meat dishes but I would recommend a visit just to try the mo mo’s.

Located on a dingy row of shops on Upper Chorlton Road, I’m not sure I would have gone to Tibetan Kitchen if I hadn’t been promised good things. Great reviews on Unilocal and my pal raving about their momos from when they were a van led me there on a sunny Friday evening. And wow, wow, wow. Excellent fresh food at an incredibly good price. For £9.50 each my friend and I had two thalis and a wealth of momos. This was a bargain and honestly it was way too much food — if I hadn’t been going straight out afterwards I could have taken enough home for a whole other meal. I can’t tell you the actual names of what I ate but it was a mutton curry, a chickpea and spinach curry, and some amazing sesame chicken. I usually steer clear of chicken at Chinese/Indian/Thai restaurants as I find it quite bland and uninspiring, but after watching the chef cook this chicken before my very eyes I was convinced. Everything was great. Loads of flavour and the meat was amazing. I liked how everything had plenty of veg in it as well. The basmati rice was pretty dull but I feel that way about rice in general. Next time I might just get hot dishes without any rice as I think that would be filling enough. Three dishes from the hot counter is £6.50 or £7.50 with a momo. Extra momos are £1 each or £4 for 5. These come with a slightly scary but oddly delicious chilli sauce. The woman who served us promised some chai tea on the house that never arrived. I feel ridiculous complaining about not getting a freebie but it was odd to have it offered and not turn up. This place is certainly not a restaurant but more than just a takeout. There is a bit of seating inside and outside and they bring your food to you, but you need to grab your own cutlery and serviettes.

I want these guys to close down… and move their kitchen to Sale. I’d heard a couple of people mention TK and how delicious their food was — freshly prepared ingredients, traditional and modern Himalayan dishes — and a unique type of cuisine you don’t see everywhere(or anywhere else in Manchester I don’t think?). Our group braved the rain to head here on a Friday night and though we were a bit later arriving than planned, the owners gave us a warm welcome and, as we were all ‘newbs’ there, offered us a taster plate of pretty much everything. For only £6.50! The only(strong) recommendation I’d had in advance was for the Beef Momos which are steamed dumplings with minced beef filling. Five of these bad boys for £4. I had to buy a plate of them, sharing a couple with some friends as they were so scrummy. Their ‘Momo Sauce’ is pretty intensive chilli-wise, so if you’re adverse to heat then go easy with this! TK is a delicious and much more nutritious takeaway option and I’ll definitely go back there to try other things on their menu.

Wow, I eventually made it to the promised land of fine Tibetan food in Manchester and I wasn’t let down one bit! After visiting the TK pop up van at food festivals a couple of times over the last year, I was super excited to hear these guys were setting up a proper bricks and mortar store in Chorlton. I was in town hitting a few pubs with friends and I had to make it the number 1 priority to get here at some stage of the evening. First off it’s very casual, mainly a takeout but there was enough seating at the front for around 10 people if you want to eat while popping in for 20 minutes. The layout is of a food counter style and there are a number of exciting combos and thali’s that you can order direct from the informative chef. I went for the thali which was absolutely fantastic, giving me a combination of most of the dishes they had on offer including pork, chicken and goat, loads of vege plus a Momo on the side. In fact I love Momo’s so much that I actually ordered a separate plate which were amazing — every time I’m in town I may just pop in for some now. You can eat for £4 upwards and the Thali was around £6.50. What’s refreshing about this place is that I was out for beers and that usually translates into me eating a dodgy burger or something equally unhealthy on a night out. With TK, it’s really nice to be able to get a big plate of something that tastes amazing but comes with loads of greenery and you know is better for you than the usual casual food outlets. Tibetan Kitchen, I’ll be back soon! ps — I’m keeping one star back for my next visit, as I want to try a few more dishes!

This is great comfort food at a great price and perfect for when you want something quick but are sick of the same old takeaway fare. The thali is a good option if you can’t decide because you get to try multiple dishes. I have to say none of them particularly stood out for me in terms of taste but they certainly tasted fresh and wholesome and I am pretty sure that if I add some of the homemade chilli sauce next time I’ll be perfectly satisfied!

Well a group of us rocked(stumbled) up to the Tibetan Kitchen after a good few drinks in Electrik last night. Its a small take away place but with some lovely seating at the front. We were later than anticipated and they were getting towards closing time so asked if we would eat off the hot plate selection instead of all ordering off the larger menu. It looked fantastic so we did and they made us each up a thali style plate with rice, main dishes, side dishes and a momo, a kind of dumpling. I had the beef main and the vegetable mono with the chickpea side dish. All fantastic. Then Mike B ordered some additional beef momos and kindly let me have one(Mike I owe you!) this was also really delicious. Friendly service and a lovely, really unusual menu. I can’t wait to go back and try some more of their food.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow!!! Have you ever eaten Tibetan food? If not, you really need to try it. This place has just opened up, literally, been open a week and the flavours are just spectacular. Started with Momos: little dumplings, full of either beef or vegetables. I went for the beef, delightful, light and puffy pastry, with a really juicy beefy filling. To accompany these, they have a chilli sauce, great flavour, not too hot, some garlic, maybe a hint of ginger, some sesame too? Gorgeous none-the-less. Then moving on to the main dishes. A sliced beef, green pepper & red onion stir fry and a tofu & mixed vegetable stir-fry. Both of these were brilliant. Juicy pieces of beef and no insipid tasteless tofu, there was really good flavour and a great blend of spice to make the dishes really interesting. I’d happily eat either again. Finally, the prices are spectacularly reasonable, especially for Chorlton. Two full meals and a couple of Momos for less than £15! I’d get in quick before they put them up, they are definitely undercharging at the moment for the quality and flavour, plus… everything is organic where possible, they use the best quality ingredients that they can source and cater for any special diets or allergies. They have a decent vegan offering and will cater for gluten-free by adjusting the recipe slightly. You can eat in or take out, but to eat in you’ll want a warm coat or hope they fix the door that blows open a bit too easily! Would thoroughly recommend this place, it’s just brilliant, and the owners are really friendly and pleasant.
