If you visit make sure you eat beforehand or you’ll be hungry after, don’t expect the highest quality Asian food(like Surikan or even the Mayflower restaurant below), and don’t plan on making an evening out of the experience because they will rush you out the door.

Wow! From the Unilocal reviews I’d read over the last few weeks, I was expecting a good lunch from Sky Kong Kong, but I wasn’t it to be this good! I have tried to get into SKK for lunch a few times over the the last couple of weeks, but they had sold out of everything every time I tried. So even after a big breakfast, I decided to head down early to avoid disappointment. Now, from the outside, Sky Kong Kong doesn’t look that appealing. The sign above the door looks like my 2 year old nephew did it with some crayons, but I really like it. I like being unenthused walking into a restaurant and then blown away by the time I walk out. Inside can only be summed up as quirky. There are 3 long tables with around 10 chairs on each and a few books about Asian food and art. It looks as if its been put together in a few hours, and it probably was. But again, I really like it. It works! Now onto the food: wow! They have a two course bento menu that changes daily and today it started with a tomatoes an cherry dish. Unfortunately I didn’t get all the details of this dish, but essentially it was sliced tomatoes, cherries and a delicious olive oil dressing. It was really refreshing and for somebody that doesn’t love tomatoes, I demolished it! Unfortunately, but in true SKK fashion, they had run out of chicken for the main. So I had pan seared salmon instead: oh, go on then ;) That came with a courgette & parmesan pancake, cabbage with chorizo, wild rice and another cabbage dish. It was seriously good. For £6.50 it was amazing! This is definitely a five star lunch if ever I’ve had one!

Only just discovered this place. An interesting start up serving really tasty Korean food. The local area is a bit limited on Interesting food venues so I was keen to try it out. The location is not particularly attractive — behind the bus station in run down 70s concrete block, but you need to ignore all that. You can eat in or take out(bento boxes) but for either you need to be quick as they only have limited quantities and it is proving to be so popular. And that is because it is so good. It is all freshly prepared and organic too with a lovely selection of healthy food(fish, chicken, salads, fruit) and often a little unusual. I haven’t eaten in but the bento boxes are great and at just £3 it’s definitely worth giving it a try.

Ok I’ll be honest, I wasn’t keen on trying this place, I don’t know much about Korean food and I certainly didn’t know that they did sushi but BOY do they do sushi! The actual place is strange, 2 long tables with with places made up for about 10 on each, the walls are bare white and there are a few shelves about with recipe books on them, one shelf had lots of hats on it — random! we went up to the counter and ordered 2 bento boxes and I ordered a ginseng juice and we were invited to sit down so we picked the end of one of the long tables. The sushi came out within 5 mins and it looked so pretty, the taste lived up to what it looked like, it was all super fresh and lovely! We went up to the counter to pay before we left and the mam said it would be £10 — I thought he’d made a mistake so asked him how much the bento boxes were — £3 !!! Seriously!!! You can’t get that much rubbish sushi I’m Tescos for that price ! So I massively recommend this place but you must get there quick to snap up the sushi as the lady only makes 25 portions a day and when it’s gone it’s gone!

Excellent value lunch — had bento with kimchi, tuna maki some California rolls all delicious and fresh. All organic too! Hidden away behind the bus station and the premier inn — wasn’t sure what to expect, but really impressed especially as the bento was only £3 Think I’m going to be lunching here a lot more
