Cracker little bar/bottle shop, shame it’s so far from my doorstep, I just don’t get out here enough. Always a good selection of beer on draught and their bottle selection is fantastic. People drop in on their way home from work to fill flagons from their specialised counter pressure system which is a sight to behold. Costs £10 deposit per bottle I believe but you get this back on return of the bottle, most simply exchange for a refill when they’re back though. Can get a little squeezy as it’s not the biggest store front(there is more seating downstairs) but it’s enjoyable to sit in the window with a pint and have a chat.

TL;DR — Like great beer, great staff and great selection? Go to Heaton Hops. Go now. Go on! Heaton Hops is one of those places where after you’ve been once, you just want to keep going. Sure, it’s not the biggest beer house around, and a lot of the time you’ll have to be patient if you want a seat, but trust me — this place is worth it. The selection of beer is mind-boggling. In addition to a great selection of regional and craft beers on tap, there’s a wall of bottles which are also available to buy either to drink there and then or to take home and enjoy later. One thing I can recommend is the fill station. You get a flagon, which holds around 3.3 pints but they only charge you for 3, filled to order with a beer of your choice from the selection they’ve got on at the time. Not all of the beers are available to take in a flagon, and there’s a £10 deposit on the container which you get back on its safe return, but it’s a great way to share the exciting and unusual beers that Heaton Hops get in. If you’re after a quality pint(or half, there’s no shame in that!) of excellent beer or cider in a bright, friendly, welcoming space in the Heatons, this is the place you’re looking for. I’ll see you at the bar.

Truly a fantastic place, just a shame it’s not bigger although it might loose something in a bigger premises. Fantastic beers, enthusiastic owners and near to the butcher so you could nip in for a pint when you go out to buy sausages

Twice I’ve been to Heaton Hops now and it’s twice I’ve been bowled over by how immense it is. It’s the sort of place you dream of opening yourself for you and your beer-loving friends to spend every evening for the rest of your natural life. They seem to always have a very decent selection of eight keg and two cask ales on tap(the pics on their Twitter account @HeatonHops is evidence enough of that); and are supporters of both local breweries and those from further afield. Their fill station is a genius idea — glass flagons with a choice of four keg beers for you to enjoy at home. They charge £10 for a deposit on the flagon, plus the cost of the chosen beer. In addition, they have a large range of local, national and imported bottled and canned beers on the shelves for you to buy and take away. Locally popular and certainly loved, owners Damian and Charlotte should be extremely proud of what they have. My friends and I are planning on making this a regular haunt!

I knew I loved Heaton Hops before I even visited. I just knew it in my heart. Then I went along for a Unilocal Manchester Meets event and my prophecy was correct, I did indeed love it. I knew I had to return of my own volition to review it, so it was super convenient when a friend of mine moved to a flat in Heaton Moor. This place is small and popular. That’s part of the charm, but don’t count on being able to grab a table for a large party straight away. Late afternoon on Sunday it was buzzing, with the sunlight streaming in through the windows and the door propped open, because it was suddenly summer for all of a few hours. And where better to spend the brief Mancunian summer? Damien and Charlotte are lovely people and will help you find a beer you like and chat to you about your beer if you’re so inclined. I had two very lovely beers, the names of which I’ve already forgotten somehow, but I enjoyed them both very much. All in all, it’s just a really lovely place to spend your time and you should absolutely go there, as soon as possible.

Heaton Hops is a real gem of the Manchester food and drink scene — run by Damian and Charlotte, it’s possibly one of the most welcoming and friendly places I’ve visited in a long time(and that’s saying something!) The emphasis on tap is all on UK breweries and there really is an excellent selection of great breweries with some very close to home in Stockport and Marble in Manchester. Great to see Thornbridge on offer too! There’s a fantastic selection of bottles to go and if you want one rapidly chilled then they can do it asap for you while you wait and drink there — amazing! Good prices, great venue and lovely people running it — it doesn’t get better than that! *We recently held an event at Heaton Hops — you can check out the great reviews here:

What a cracking find! Recommended from reading a CAMRA article, I visited on a Sunday afternoon and found the place to be most welcoming. There were 2 hand pulls on offer at the bar, plus a row of keg taps behind. I plumped for the Northern Monk True North pale ale on cask, a fabulous hoppy pale ale. The owner kindly supplied the WiFi password prior to me settling downstairs to enjoy my pint where there were 2 tables & power sockets available. Easily accessible from Heaton Chapel train station, or off the 192 Stagecoach operating along Wellington Rd North, I highly recommend this bar for a visit.

Fantastic selection of British made microbrewery beers and a great little venue with lovely hosts. Strongly recommend the Blood Orange IPV — a real treat.

An absolute top place this. If you live in that area, you have a great little spot on your doorstep, if on the other hand you live in town like me it’s still worth a quick train up. They have two hand pumps there, I started on a Quantum UK light which had just been released. Excellent beer, and kept in top condition. I then decided to go on the keg beers, I think they have 7 kegs from memory. The highlight being Runaway Pale Ale. I had a look around at the bottles and cans that were stocked, and given the size of the place this was very impressive, a mix of local, UK and US beers. Also worth noting they sell wine there to drink in or take-away, although the odds of me trying wine in a place with so much quality beer is pretty slim. I’ve bought beer from Damian at markets over the last couple of years, and it’s nice to see his new venture working out, you’ll certainly receive a warm welcome from his and his wife/girlfriend. Finally I’d like to highlight one other thing, value for money. Yes you have to pay a premium for a premium product, and I have no problem with that, but it cannot be disputed that a number of places are definitely«cashing in» on the willingness of punters to pay for craft beer. Heaton Hops on the other hand are offering some of the best beers you can buy in the UK at excellent prices, and yes i know they will have lower rent costs than places in the city centre but it’s still a point worth making in my opinion.

I don’t generally like to make judgements on newly opened businesses, there’s always a settling in period where staff need to find their feet, products are changed due to customer demand and punters get an idea of where the place fits into their lives. Having said all that, I’m going to go ahead and make a judgement on what is my new favourite shop, Heaton Hops has hit the ground running with a(somewhat) unique proposition in the Heaton Chapel/Moor area. A bottle shop(or offie as I used to call them) selling a fantastic range of beers from all over the world and plenty of local ones to boot, with a selection of wines and a cider or two thrown in to take away, is great in it’s own right. Throw in seating for probably 30(there’s two tables in the basement), 8 keg lines and 2 cask pumps and I’m close to pure joy. Then the lovely, friendly and knowledgeable owners top it all off with bar snacks of seriously brilliant cheeses and salami, in addition to the best pork pies and sausage rolls I’ve ever eaten from Heaton Hops next door neighbours Littlewoods the butcher, heaven! Damian and Charlotte have managed to make a standard shop unit into a superb little business, the shop is a welcoming atmosphere with wood cladding everywhere and a great Spotify playlist — though don’t come here expecting to sing at the top of your voice, they’ve got people living upstairs, Heaton Hops is a place to pop in to buy a couple of drinks only to find you’ve spent the whole evening there quite happily trying the drinks and nibbling away like some sophisticated Mediterranean chap! Heaton Hops would fit into any cool neighbourhood in any city, i’m very glad it’s just a short cycle from where I live, I envisage a whole new route home from work is now required.

Heaton Moor and Heaton Chapel are many things to many people, but the one thing it has really lacked for me is craft beer. Step forward Heaton Hops, a craft beer bottle shop and tap house. The launch night was everything you could hope for; unpretentious beer advice, stylish surroundings, warm atmosphere and most importantly — a fresh and current selection of local and not so local keg, cask, bottled and canned beers(they also do great wine and coffee). Damian and Charlotte have given Heaton Chapel the ideal spot to purchase beer as well as a convivial and contemporary location to enjoy some of the best kept beer you’ll drink in Manchester… And all this fun was on a Monday! A must for beer fans and a cool venue for you culture vultures too!
