Myself and my hubby popped in here for a quiet drink on our way to meet friends for dinner, we asked if we could just have a drink at the bar and were greeted by a friendly, polite bartender who welcomed us to sit, I asked him if I could just look at the food menu whilst I was there for future reference and he was happy to oblige, we sat chatting at the bar, our drinks were prompt and good and the bartender was attentive but also quietly busy looking after things so it didn’t feel in any way uncomfortable or that we were in the way even though it was still early and quiet at that point, the music was upbeat but not too loud giving a fun relaxed vibe and the little benches outside and window seats will make great viewing stations come summer, we are hoping to come back soon to try the food and enjoy a similar experience, I could have almost been on holiday it had that lovely chilled feeling!

I’ve just moved to Tunbridge Wells and was a bit weary about the ethnic restaurants in town. But Soprano did not fail me. The service was great, the waiters were attentive — a rarity in the UK. I really enjoyed garlic shrimps as well as the patatas bravas. Definitely will return.

Good selection of tapas, all served hot by friendly and efficient staff. I particularly enjoyed the Salt Cod(Baccala) and garlic bread with cheese and artichoke(Pan de Acachofa). Good portion sizes, especially the Tortilla Barcelona. Wasn’t keen on the House White Wine(£13.75 a bottle). Managed to get a table by the window which was pleasant. I concur with other reviewers that it is very cosy. Bill for two came to £83 but using Tastecard it came down to £55. I would go back again.

As noted in my previous review the food and the atmosphere are delightful and as authentic as one can hope for outside of Spain, the nationailities of the waiters has no bearing and I highly doubt Andy D actually found out the nationaility of the chef. Whilst I believe in critical reviews I stand by the general rule that if you have nothing nice to say then don’t say anything at all, given that Andy D fails to note any problems with the service except for the nationailities of the staff and the lack of bread, I would urge you to give Soprano’s a try for yourself. The best places often do spark debate!

Not sure if Charlotte know what ‘authentic’ means but this restaurant is far from authentic. The food was ok Lets start with the staff, the waiter was Malaysian, the waitress was Russian, the Spanish Guitarist Italian and the Chef was Egyptian. Not a Spanish person in sight. It was 7:30 on a Tuesday evening and they had ran out of bread, a tapa’s bar that has no bread, I couldn’t believe it, thats unheard of and it would never happen in Spain, there would be a riot, I still can’t believe it or the fact someone just couldn’t use 1 single brain cell and pop out and buy some locally. They ran out of bread. This place is about as authentic as a Turin shroud beach towel.

I love Soprano. They food is excellent, always high quality and fresh and there is a good range of interesting dishes — personal favourites include Gambas a la plancha(grilled prawns), Sardinas Rebozadas(sardines), and Beregena gratinata(aubergine gratin). The atmosphere is lively and relaxed, partially down to the intimate size of the place, and I must admit the fact that they are not a chain scores points for me. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Do expect to be cuddled up to your neighbour on occasion as they will do their best to accomodate as many as possible. If you plan to go at the weekend, you will need to book — probably a few weeks in advance. They have two sittings, one at 7 and another at 9.30 ish. Definately give it a go, but perhaps not best for a quiet, formal evening!

Popular tapas bar in the ‘old’ high street(Pantiles end of T Wells). Modern décor with leather club-style seating — with 2 outdoor tables squeezed onto the pavement. Tables are a little on the small side and can get crowded as the tapas arrives. Try and get one of the 2 window tables if poss so you can watch the world go by while enjoying a leisurely lunch. The dishes are always fresh and authentic — you’ll find all your favourites(serrano ham, spicy chorizo, ham croquettes, meatballs, patatas bravas, garlic prawns and more) on the menu plus an occasional ‘new’ dish to whet your interest — we had lemon and garlic chicken wings which were excellent. Some stray oddities do appear(garlic bread?) but the selection is extensive enough to meet most expectations. Service is attentive and prices average so expect to pay £30 — £40 for a lunch for 2 with wine. I have been told Soprano’s gets busy in the evenings so make sure to book.
