Starka is a little bar that on appearances looks quite nice on the outset, and to be honest its ok inside too. There is a seating area, a bar, pool tables in the next room and a music gig place upstairs. I have been in for a game of pool and an orange juice, which was pleasant and very quite. This was great, so we didn’t get hassled off the table. The second time I was in was to see a friends band in the upstairs section. It was very small upstairs although there is a bar so that was useful not having to go downstairs every 5 minutes.

Ach. A decent enough place, but it’s not my scene really. It’s hard to argue with half price drinks between 9 and 11, fair enough, but regardless I never have a good night in here. I hate the music and don’t find anything in common with anyone else who goes there except sharing the same air temporarily. It’s basically the place people go before the not so mega megabar across the road, suitably pumped up with cheap booze beforehand(it makes it a bit more bearable). The food during the day is average, but reasonably priced and it’s never quiet at that time which makes it a good shout. They used to do a great quiz here during the week which I loved, but alas, it is no more. The sort of place where everyone loves Oasis, without realising how much they rip off The Beatles, where everyone loves The Jam, without realising how many bands they also like rip them off.

I look upon Starka as my local pub now. I am not as frequent a punter as i used to be but i still make an apperance most months and take full advantage of the half price drinks on offer from 9 – 11 pm. During the day they serve food too, and pretty good food at that. From soup to Sweet and Sour to fudge cake, they do a bit of everything, and every time i have eaten here it has been brilliant. Really cheap too! Upstairs is also a music venue, which is small and cramped but atmospheric and the band nights are always busy and vibrant.

Great place for lunch. Good portions and good prices. Sometimes a wee bit slow on service but otherwise good. 10 minute walk from train station.

Starka is open for lunch which is reasonably priced and is better than most pub lunches in Motherwell. Thursday nights are probably their busiest and they offer £1.00 per drink. Once a month Starka run band nights Thurs-Sun in the upstairs bar. If it is busy there is a great atmosphere and some really great bands playing. This is across from a nightclub ‘Hype’ which is open till later on in the evening if you want your night to last longer!
