The anchor café on Oxford Road is a charity run by Vinelife church in a Manchester. The menu says prices started are suggested donations and service is at the discretion of the management. That was by far the interesting small print I’ve ever read. We went in to see friends with whom we were going for the gallery opening. We were warned by our friends about the extended wait. 25 minutes for an earl Grey and a cappuccino. Am I impressed? Will I go back for more? The coffee was decent, nothing exceptional but as of now I’m still undecided about going back again. Give it a go and let us know of your experience.

Went in to Anchor after the Whitworth Gallery opening. On the outside it doesn’t really look open and I’ve been past many times and wondered if they were. They fortunately had a little blackboard outside saying they were in fact open. On going in it was extremely busy and had a large queue for service. They are quite disorganised and took about 20minites to get through a queue of orders for 12 people not providing drinks that’s just taking orders as they hand out numbers to take back to your table. Then another 20 minutes to receive my Flat White, yes just a drink, as they had one staff member making the drinks and then delivering them to the tables after each and every drink was made. Which also took a considerable amount of time as they didn’t seem to look for the numbers they themselves had provided opting to ask random people if it was there drink. At least four times our group was brought incorrect drinks in their search for the right home. The coffee itself was quite decent. Glad I didn’t order food though although others in my group did order bagels which took another 15 minutes. Sadly a decent café let down by very poor organisation.
