UPDATE3: Chilli Peri Chicken has now closed. UPDATE2: Having visited a Nandos recently, I will concede the food is of equal or superior quality. The rest still stands. UPDATE: CPC now has a lunchtime menu where you get a main, a side and unlimited drinks for £3.45. The food is still filling, I couldn’t finish my 10′ pizza and not through poor quality. For the original review, read below: This. Is. Nandos. But better, and cheaper. Weird. It looks the same, the menu is very similar(but with nifty addition of pizza). But the food is tastier, more filling and probably better quality, and the prices are… lower? Bottomless soft-drinks like Nandos, chicken and chilli peri sauce… like Nandos, but you can get both and barely break a fiver.

Like an alternative to the nando’s in fallowfield? How about a restaraunt that’s basically nandos but not nandos. An institute where you can get the same peri peri chicken cooked on a grill in the same style as nandos but not nandos??? Chilli Peri Chicken could be your answer. Lots of seating, nice vibe, grilled chicken for about 8 quid kind of like nandos really.

Yeah the similarity between this and Nando’s is absolutely hilarious. It’s a complete copy. The décor is the same, the menu is the same, and they even have the same system of hot sauces ranging from mild to ridiculously spicy. The food though, is way better than Nando’s… Anyone who’s been to Nando’s more than a few times must have realized that when the chips are cooked, they put them on plates under the ‘hot’ lamps until your chicken is cooked. Not only does this result in really soggy luke-warm chips, but you can actually watch your chips going soggy and cold as the plates are visible from the restaurant. Nothing more irritating. You literally look at your chips sitting on a plate for ten minutes before they add your chicken to it. The plate is then delivered to your table, you test the chips to confirm your suspicions, and hey presto! They’re grim and cold. No such problems at Chilli Peri Chicken. Also, their rice is much much nicer than the Nando’s alternative, as its got loads of great spices and veggy bits giving it a real full flavour. Portions are big at Nando’s, but they’re even bigger here. The fizzy drinks here are fizzy rather than flat, so they haven’t copied Nando’s in this regard. I strongly recommend this place. Nando’s is well popular and I’m actually a fan myself despite its problems, but Chilli Peri Chicken is literally the same thing, but better. Hot Chicken mmmmm… P. S. Check out my review of Pizza Plus, to see the only place that’s an even more hilarious rip-off of a major chain.

Having recently reviewed Nando’s, I found myself thinking about the sneaky pretenders to its throne, and whether they were actually better than the king. I came to the same conclusion as Alfie, which is that in this instance the top dog of the chicken restaurant business is not, in actual fact, the best at what it does. Chilli Peri Chicken may be a shameless rip-off, but its a shameless rip-off that builds on Nando’s lackluster mistakes. As Alfie points out, the food is better, the drinks are better, and the portions are better. If you find yourself turning towards Nando’s because you absolutely must have chicken, then just deviate towards this place instead and treat yourself slightly better.
