Changos is a burrito bar on Oxford Road, we went there for lunch on a recommendation from a friend and to be honest we weren’t that impressed. The burrito was okay but no where near as tasty as panchos or even barburrito. The rice and veg filling was a bit bland and the burrito started to fall apart after a couple of bites. Also the chilli was a little cold so it spoilt the whole thing. On the plus side the place is quite nice inside and the service is friendly. The burrito was also reasonably priced at £5.99. Don’t think I’d rush back but might pop in again if passing and in need of a quick reasonably priced meal.

Came here for dinner one night when on the way to Cornerhouse for a film. Granted I used to live in California so have high expectations when it comes to burritos, but these were not bad at all. High quality food, very tasty, but only one kind of beans. I’m impressed by all of the Jarritos soda for sale — good work! The mango lime sauce was weird… won’t be doing that again. I’m going to try other Burritos places in the area, but its likely I’ll be back here again for round 2.

Delicious! The only thing that would make a Changos better is if they would wrap me up in the burrito and I could eat my way out of it. One stamp away from a freebee as well!!!

Decided to catch up with a friend at lunchtime over a quick burrito bite. I’ve often walked passed Changos on route to getting a bog standard Tesco lunch and there has always been a huge queue out the door, so I was quite excited to see what the fuss was about. Luckily we got there before the lunchtime chaos hit so we weren’t rushed along the production line — which usually fills me with pure panic and causes brain blanks. Everyone was really friendly(and patient) and I felt I had done good ordering… I have to admit I was pretty disappointed at the first bite… The main issue was that it was pretty bland, I’m used to the likes of Barburrito which can really kick a punch — in this case the ‘spicy’ salsa & smoked chipotle sauce did very little to whet the taste buds. At £4.50 it was a decent price for the amount I had, although I would expect to enjoy it more than I did! Can’t say I’ll be queuing in the rain for this one anytime soon!

Been here several times now. Usually busy around lunch time and often queue going outside the door. I enjoy the burritos here. It reminds me of subway where you go along the counter and choose the different options. First the size, then the meat, rice, salsa, what veg you want and then the sauce. The sauces you can get are mostly spicy. There is one which is not spicy I think. I have uploaded a photo which shows the different sauces and its description and ingredients. If you do go, remember to get a loyalty card. After about 5 stamps, you get free nachos. 10 stamps gets a free burrito. One of Changos rivals is Barburrito. I have never been to Barburrito so can’t compare the actual burritos but Changos is cheaper — although the price has gone up recently. Used to be able to get a medium burrito for £3.99 but its £4.50 now.(Large used to be £4.99 but now £5.50). Only been once since its gone up in price and had a large burrito — which actually seemed larger than normal. Justifying the increase in price? (As a comparison, the cheapest at Barburrito I believe is £5.95(for chicken). Its a bit more for other meats).

I remember when burrito bars were a novelty that automatically got 5 stars for not being burgers. Ah, those were more innocent times. Now we’re jaded by the arrivals of Taco Bell(See some british indies get some success and decided to get your american mitts on our cash, eh, TB?) and the omnipresence of mexican food, I have to admit… I’m not that excited anymore. The original burrito bar in Manchester was Barburrito, so anything else has to be compared to that benchmark(Sorry, just my arbitrary review rule!). Changos does alright, producing pretty much the same formula as everywhere else but is a bit cheaper than Barburrito(touché). Whilst I had heard Changos is tastier than Barburrito, I’m now convinced that is all a con — Changos add a Subway-style sauce to their burritoes, upping the sugar and giving the affectation of extra taste without really being any different. If you’re the kind of person who smothers all their food in ketchup until all you can taste is ketchup, this is your kind of place. Well, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but in all honesty, a burrito is a burrito is a burrito. It does what it does competently, but I find nothing to separate it from the other burrito bars I’ve been to. It seems like every single brand of burrito bar is exactly the same with its logo slapped on the top. Surely someone can try something a bit original? Anyway, I digress… BYE!

Great burritos, quick service and good prices! Great lunch spot-I’d recommend the chicken with rice and beans with salad and guacamole everytime :)

This place is pretty standard affair. There are much better burrito joints in town… see Manchester Arndale for the best! But what this place has done is nail the lunch burrito. I’m happy to trade quality when it’s this cheap. They do an ace lunch deal for around £4 which gets you a burrito, tortilla chips and a drink.

Love Chango’s. Went in for the first time just because I was passing and have returned a number of times. Tasty food(burrito), priced reasonably, and a nice place to sit and eat with refillable soft drinks. And WiFi available too which is always a bonus if needed!

This is my first ever review so bear with me! Ok so I’ve not been to Barburrito and I work right opposite Changos so it’s very convenient. I visited Changos for about the fifth time this evening and it was the first time I sat in rather than take away. I went for the athletico/healthier barrbuito(in a vain attempt to keep my new years resolution… never gonna happen) with pulled pork and of course I went for all the toppings they offered as I’m not daft. I also got some nachos with a guacamole dip. Firstly, the burrito was huggeee and I thought very tasty. It had a nice mix of tastes and flavours,.I’m one of those people who loves mad flavour combos though. It dribbled out of the bottom quite a lot(see above for overindulging in the toppings bit). All in all, it satisfied me and I enjoyed it, the pulled pork was fresh and the hot mango sauce spiced things up nicely. However, I was not a fan of the nachos and guacamole dip. The guacamole tasted of nothing, it might as well have been green water. Nachos were nothing special, I think they would benefit from a bit of spice, or at least something more on them. Not badly priced but I wouldn’t recommend sitting in to eat, it has no atmosphere and isn’t really designed for that kind of thing. Perfect for lazy/indulgent lunches plus they have quite a good deal on a lunch times; a burrito, nachos and a drink for a fiver is not bad I reckon!

Worst burrito ever! Quite simply I don’t know where to start about this waste of £5.99. Two points: 1. Burritos are pretty much my favourite food on the planet — having eaten them in Texas and California, I know it’s always a trade off in eating them in the UK but there’s still some damn good burrito places on our home shores. 2. I very rarely leave anything when eating unless it’s really bad and I ended up leaving pretty much half of this burrito. The cheese was so cold and strong(the wrong type no doubt) that you just got cheese hanging through it all the time — absolutely overpowering everything else. The chicken was pretty tasteless and when I ordered a side of guacamole, for the amount you actually get it’s pretty debatable on whether it’s worth getting. I mean a little bit of me died inside when my server started putting it on with a knife — I mean WTF, she wasn’t buttering a piece of toast! It’s such a shame because the actual burrito bar looks pretty cool and is well decorated. They’re in a good location and the 3 staff were pretty friendly(I was the only person in) — they just seriously need to go back to the drawing board and think about the standard of the food — or take a trip up to Pancho’s and see how it should be done in terms of offering a less McBurrito experience. This was the 2nd time I’d been after an average experience on opening day. I thought I’d give them a second chance but doubt I’ll be back again in the future unless I hear reports of some changes.

I basically concur entirely with Jamie B except I don’t think Changos in necessarily that much tastier than Barburrito(or any other of the many burrito chains, except Chilangos which is obvs the best). But it does have some tasty sauces — foolishly I for some reason convinced myself Habanero would taste the same as mango chutney seeing as they are the same colour — this is NOT true, habanero is of course hella spicy! I didn’t get the little bits of broken nacho in my burrito but later regretted it. A bit of(probably horribly inauthentic) crunch would have been interesting. Guacamole is free although is not in great quantities. I started out about to get the meal deal but then reneged and just got a large burrito. Either way, it’s a great bargain. Knowing this is nearby work makes me feel food secure.

For Changos think Barburrito except with tastier ingredients and much better value for money. A burrito in Changos starts from £3.95 and unlike at Barburrito that includes ‘extras’ such as onions and peppers, guacamole and jalepenos. Also beers are only £2.99 a bottle, bargain!!! I went at lunchtime when there was a queue down the street to get in due to the popularity of their lunchtime deal(burrito, tortilla chips and a bottomless drink for £5). I’m not going to go into loads of detail about the food because it’s not a new concept and burritos are down to personal taste so I’ll let you guys go in and try for yourself but it’s well worth a visit. P.S if your mouth is burning from the chillies just go a couple of doors along to Fresco Freddo for some gelato.
