I just couldn’t resist the urge to write my first ever review about anything online following the owner’s appalling behaviour today. I spend 3 – 4 days in the library every week and spend at least £5 in the café on drinks and snacks every time I go there. Today I bought a big coffee and a big peppermint tea and sat down in the café area to consume my drinks alongside my cucumber sandwich. Today was the first time I saw«the boss», who approached my table and informed me in a strict and uncompromising manner that even if I bought drinks from her I am not allowed to eat anything that was not bought from the café. I told her that I am allergic to cheese and all their sandwiches have it; I also spend so much on drinks in her café she could really give me a minute to finish my sandwich. Her reply was — and I have to quote here to demonstrate the exceptionally high level of business acumen she posesses — ‘I don’t care how much money you spend in my café.’ Then she stormed away and returned with the security! Needless to say her unwarranted hostility left me shaking from anger and embarrassment but the security man was very apologetic and understanding which helped a little but one thing is for sure: she won’t see one single penny of mine being spent there anymore. I appreciate that reading this story one must wonder whether I was a well-known café-hooligan in the area or we had confrontations in the past but I can asssure you I haven’t seen this woman before in my life and she couldn’t have heard horror stories about me from her staff because she actually has a very lovely barista with whom I usually have pleasant little conversations… So there you go I was left traumatised by what happened and cannot fathom how can someone think this is the right way to go about any ‘food policy’ they supposedly have. Credit is due to the security man who later looked for me on the library floor and asked me if I was ok and apologised on behalf of the woman and even tried to come up with excuses for her speculating that she must be stressed etc. No water’s edge café for me ever again, thank you very much.

Water’s Edge Café, which is in the Canada Water Library, is among the newest additions to the neighborhood’s sad repertoire of eateries. This one gets 4 stars for being the only half decent café(that’s up and running at 8AM) in the Canada Water area, near the station; for sheer lack of competition. Service is quick, and they have a range of foods to choose from, both savoury and confectioneries, for a quick meal. They don’t take credit cards for orders below £10(or is it £5?), but that’s totally fine, I’d say. The café overlooks Canada Water, the freshwater lake that separates Surrey Quays Shopping Center from the tube station-library complex. The seating area for the café is very close to the door, which could be somewhat annoying I suppose, but hey, that’s all we’ve got near the station, so, no one complain! Thank you Southwark Council, for the gift of a café in Canada Water! Finally!(… and no, Starbucks doesn’t count!)
