My wife and I decided to stop by after visiting friends. Unfortunately we ordered our drinks just before the last round bell and from that moment on we were harassed and harangued by increasingly aggressive doormen who stood in front of my wife and I while we were trying to finish our drinks. Seems disingenuous to take your money for the drinks in one breath but only need to give you 10 very interrupted minutes to finish it. When stating our displeasure at their behaviour and the way in which we were being treated they responded that they were not in the least bit worried. When I said that I would be taking it up with management they said go right ahead which indicates that the treatment of patrons in such a manner is endorsed. We moved on to The Old Frizzle where the atmosphere was completely different and we were able to finish the evening on a good note without any interruptions. So if you do want to have a quiet tipple on the way home and don’t want aggressive and confrontational doormen watching every sip then«The Prince of Wales» is a pub you might want to avoid.

A typical chain pub, that looks very like a JD wearthrspoon layout. A popular bar with Wimbledon staff that has has a good atmosphere, good selection of beers available on tap, price of four beers where around £18 a bit pricey, most people that come here head to the Weatherspoon’s as it’s cheaper. Nice friendly door staff that showed us to the best take away, next time I’m back I will try the food.

There are something like 177 pubs in England called«The Prince of Wales». Not the most popular name, but certainly pretty common. This pub is easy to get to, easy to order at, and easy to find a place to sit and enjoy your drink. I’ve been there on fairly crowded evenings and still found a place to sit. It’s noisy, but not outrageously so. It’s a pub. By and large, it does what it says on the tin. Slakes your thirst and gives you a place to meet friends and enjoy a pint.

For a Punch owned establishment(of which recent experiences elsewhere has been deplorable), this one has exceeded my expectations. Staff were friendly, and even confident enough to share a joke with a stranger, which is unusual now days in my experience. Food as standard fare for that type of establishment, but was well cooked and presented, and tasted good. Choice of real ales, and the one I chose was everything a pint should be. One small criticism is the music seemed a bit loud, but then again, that could just be my age showing through. A pub I would consider using again if I were down that way.

As a rule of thumb, the nearest pub to the train station is to be avoided. Thankfully, the Prince of Wales is the exception to said rule. In all honesty, there’s not a huge deal to say about this place, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s got a good selection of real ales on tap, isn’t too pricey and the food is standard pub grub at ok prices. I’ve wasted many an hour sitting, chatting and drinking in this place, so while it’s hard to point to anything amazing or special, there’s a reason why I keep returning. A good, solid boozer with no flaws and no specialities.

The pub nearest the station. Saying that, it’s not bad at all.

This dingy hole in Wimbledon is arguably my least favourite place to drink. I feel dis-heartened saying this as I am a fan of the old style pubs which have disappeared in recent years in Wimbledon, but with a very poor layout allowing for a good chat with no more than three other mates at one time, a usually overcrowded bar, no conveniency for smokers(all cramming outside on top of a major pedestrian crossing in the town centre), and flat over-priced beer running through lines that obviosly haven’t been kept very well, I can safely say it is a pub that I am always happy to move on from. The food is not bad, but with the dingy lighting and the feeling that someone may have wee’d up against the wall next to you there are many far better places to get food from in Wimbledon. The downstairs bar(Berties Wine Bar) is far better than the Prince of Wales and given the choice I would always recommend to head there instead for your night out.

your typical Londonpub. Ok food but a menu that is everywhere. Loud sports fans(apologies for leaving that important word out before!) and full of loud drunks at the weekend so not very good for night out. Cheap beer but food mediocre

I love the lower part of this place called Bartie’s bar. They have a real cosy atmosphere down there with its own bar and lots of sofas and nice lighting. They have a good wine list too. This is a great place to go on a date because you can actually hear yourself speak!

Traditionial is an overused word in my reviews. However, this is a tradional town centre english pub. Boozer, it aint really as it lacks that sense of community I feel you need from a ‘local’. It is not pretenious or classy despite having a sign saying ‘No soiled work clothes’ it is still frequented by those type of people and people who are meeting as it is a landmark opposite Wimbledon railway and underground station. Drinks.the usual suspects from an S&N pub, like Fosters, Krounenburg, real Ale, strongbow, but here I like the Budwesier Budvar or the Leffe on tapbetter than Stella anyday and you knows this Noddy! Downstairs is candlelit, dark basement wine bar Berties. That is a great place for the live music on a Tuesday night, otherwise the Prince of Wales is ok to meet people any night of the week.

Love it! You just cant keep me away from this place why? i hear u ask, simple really, its a pub with no TVs!(god forbid) Thats right a pub with no TVs, only background music so it is possible to have a conversation(Jesus, Mary and Joseph). This is an old fashioned boozer right slap bang in the middle of womble land. Granted it is a little pricey(£3.10 a stella), but when u can have a conversation with the person next to u without once having to smile n nod coz u cant actually hear a bloody word they’re saying, i think u’ll agree its worth the extra few pence. Bloody brilliant, go there, drink beer, talk n hell, order some food if ur hungry and to top it off Bertii’s wine bar is just a flight of steps away– but i’ll save that for another review ;P

Located very conveniently opposite the station exit, the Prince of Wales is a typical British pub that has managed to shy away from the dinginess that haunt so many of them today. Decorated with heavy dark wooded panelling and leather chairs around small tables the environment feels sophisticated yet comfortable and always intimate. This pub is usually busy but not in an overly lively way which makes it the ideal place for a romantic rendezvous or a quiet bite. The food is excellent and a little more varied than the usual pub faire. It is reasonably priced, with meals from £6. The sharing platters are original and very good value for money. The drinks are the normal price and they have an excellent selection of beers on tap. For a good evening out at a pleasant pub that is conveniently locates, the Prince of Wales is an excellent choice!
