Popped in for a takeaway buffet lunch, then foolishly decided to sit down and have it there. Took 15 mins to wait for a dish of Dhall and a cheese nan to turn up. Dhall was bland, nan just had half melted grated cheese dumped on top, and my glass of «Sprite» was warm. Had to shell out £12.75 for that as well! I could have eaten like a king for that amount, at a variety of places within a 5min radius. Never again!

Not very impressive. To be clear we only had a handful of appetizer items but none of those were very good. Most was pretty bland and the tamarind was odd – peach? Maybe they had an off night.

Food and service good but THEWAITERASKEDFORMYPINNUMBER when I presented my Lloyds debit card. I am American but a trial attorney who spends loads of time in London – really? Obviously trying it on. Of course I refused, I hope that others who dine there will be alert to this obvious criminal mind.

I came here on a Friday night, when every other place in a 4 block radius was buzzing with punters. Tandoori Raj was empty. That made me a bit nervous, but I was seriously craving curry. I stuck to a red lamb curry with mushroom rice and a side of garlic naan. It really hit the spot. It’s definitely not the best in London, by a long shot. But the staff was nice, the food was good and plentiful for the price, and I got free papadum out of it as well. That’s a job well done in my book. Onto the next curry!

After getting a serious curry craving the other week I ended up getting a takeaway from Tanoori Raj. I’d never been here before even though it’s literally around the corner from my flat but I wish I had, the curry was perfect. I always opt for the chicken dopiaza(I won’t even entertain going to an indian if it’s not on the menu), and I always expect it to taste a certain way, and generally get upset when it doesn’t. I’m happy to report that it did not disappoint, neither did thier saag aloo which was equally delicious. Next time I get a craving for curry I’ll be heading straight for Tandoori Raj!

We got takeaway from here our first night in London. On the plus side, it was open late enough for us to order something after a long flight. Apparently the staff was pretty nice to my husband when he went in to pick it up. On the downside, the Paneer Tikka Masala I ordered was way too sweet. Also it was a massive amount of sauce with only a few paneers floating around. The samosas were decent but a bit doughy. The naan was excellent though and I appreciated the papadum in our takeout order. Another negative was there were no plates/cutlery in our takeaway bag, although I suppose my husband should have asked for some. There are probably better places to try in London.

To summarize, I would say the food here is okay, but make sure you order from their main menu rather than go for their Daily Lunch Buffet. While cheap at about 6 pounds, the 10 dishes in the buffet are not going to wow you, and are not expected to, I suppose. In fact, the food in the buffet line-up can even be a bit bland. The main menu isn’t too expensive either, and you can probably get a pretty comprehensive meal at about 12 pounds per person. Service is limited to the one or two people in the place, but is okay. Atmosphere-wise, the place is a bit small, but is rarely full.

went there last night after a few beers. The food was tasty and the service was friendly. Definitely a good place to know if you’re looking for curry in central london.
