Staying at a nearby hotel, I was looking for a pub that also served dinner. I came in around 6 and was informed that all the tables were reserved at 7. Apparently there was a quiz/​trivia night upcoming. They were kind enough to let us sit at the reserved tables with the promise we’d be gone by 7. We ordered some cheese and meat platters, an egg in some sort of breaded coating, and the fish and chips. Everything was outstanding. The food and atmosphere was grest, but our waiter was more than friendly and accommodating. The drinks and service couldn’t have been any better. I saw their burgers which looked amazing but didn’t get to try them. Maybe next trip!

Fantastic back street pub, good selection of alternative beers and ciders and a simple, decent selection of comforting pub food. As a new vegetarian, it was lovely to have some choice, and like Cynthia, I also near licked my plate.
I happened to be there on quiz night, lots of fun.

This place is fast becoming a favourite for a group of my friends on a Tuesday night (pub quiz was in full flow). I booked a table beforehand to sit and was glad I did, it was standing room only when we arrived. I guess the draw of a pub quiz gets people in for miles around.
The service was really friendly and cheerful, which I think always makes a difference to a pub experience. Not the greatest selection of ciders for me, but all our group found drinks that we were happy with. The menu of pub snacks was really nice, definitely the highlight. We decided to get a few between us — scotch eggs, cheese board, pork pies. All really good, wholesome food at a reasonable price (bar snacks were about £4, the cheese board £8).
A couple of dishes came out wrong but the staff were really apologetic and quick to correct the order, which didn’t bother us since we had food to pick at but I imagine that could be more annoying if you ordered just one dish.
What more can you ask for from a pub but friendly staff and good quality food? And to top it off, we came 2^nd in the quiz! Thank you very much £5 each as prize money

Had bangers and mash just the way they should be. Friendly service and nice atmosphere.

I recently stayed at The Think Apartment which are right next door to Simon The Tanner. One night my friends and I decided to have dinner and drinks at this place and I couldn’t have been happier with that choice. The Beef Ale Stew w/​mashed potatoes was amazing! I practically licked the plate clean, I definitely could have eaten more. The bartenders were very nice, the food came out quickly, and it tasted great. We tried going again but it was closed :(If I’m ever in that neighborhood again I will stop by because they left a great impression.

To be honest I was only here for 1 drink after dinner down the road so my experience may differ from others. The bartender was very nice, poured me a decent guinness with a nice attempt at a shamrock on top. It was pretty quiet around 9ish on a Saturday which I thought was odd. Pretty moderately priced in comparison with other pubs in the area. Also noticed they had scrabble and a few other board games if you’re into that kind of thing.
