Great venue. If you love live music, this is the place to have a great night out. Staff were friendly and professional. They look after their customers very well. Would most definitely visit there again.

Good for: Out-of-towners, seeing old friends, staff that can twirl, chips and aoili, Sunday roast, Aspal on tap Bad for: Bizarre table service(go to the bar, to ask for a waiter)

There have been some legendary nights out at this place. Especially since Tristan and Kate came(with their art and laughing gas!) and brought their friendly vibe — that great guy would be Tristan encouraging people to come out to play. Check out the New Cross Boutique next to the Inn where he is now. New Cross Inn was definitely Art Rock Central from 2006 to the end of 2008 with NME hailing it one of the breeding grounds for cool new talent and in the Guardian’s Top Ten London music venues. The Inn is under new management now, so has been repainted etc all white and bright and it doesn’t do sandwiches any more but the drinks are still pretty cheap. I believe Bad Manners played there last night so it’s also still gigging…

This place is so much fun it is a real shame that not a lot more attention and time is invested into it. And they used to sell laughing gas on special club nights. That really became a problem. It is dark and dingy in there so it really is not the best place to hang out in the day, unless you want to sit on one of the big sofas and have one of their special big sarnies. They are good. Drinks too are pretty cheap and of a good variety. I have been to a good few gigs here, once as part of the new cross festival. Their sound system is far, far too loud for the size of the place, I always come out with my ears ringing. However, the crowd is always up for a laugh and the bar men always join in the heckling if someone truly appalling performs. The owner is a great guy and encourages nights to be held there. Tuesday is open mic night.

This pub used to be an amazingly good rock pub in New cross but unfortunately a few years ago it changed ownership and is now like a mini version of the Venue next door. It’s aimed at teenyboppers as I call them, selling mainly Alco pops and cheesy music. I all its not a bad pub and if you like the venue, then u will like this place as a warm up It’s located conveniently close to the train station and loads of buses at the bus stop outside. The staffs are friendly and it’s in walking distance of the Venue. It seems to be quite clean and tidy.

One of New Cross’ more prominent venues for seeing live music. Located bang in the middle of New Cross, the Inn sits in the imposing shadow of neighbouring club The Venue. Luckily the two places are in every other way worlds apart. The New Cross Inn attracts a young often studenty crowd through it’s doors. The music is varied and as with all places sometimes hit or miss but ultimately it’s heart is in the right place. If you’re up for some loud music and a late drink New X Inn is a great place to round up a night out!

AWFUL. Really really awful. I’m used to dingy rock venues. I’ll even seek out the dingiest rock venues. The sad thing is, if this place was in Camden it’d make a fortune. It’s directly opposite Goldsmiths. But even they weren’t drinking in here on a Thursday. I can see why. J Green is right, it’s not the Amersham Arms so I imagine everyone was in there. The area isn’t nice, the bar is wierd. The bar actually takes up the whole of the pub. They charge £2 for soda water. The staff ignore you. As if you’re putting them out by asking for drinks. They’re not even cute enough to get away with it. And the pub was really stinky too. On the plus side they have a stage. But you’d have to really want to see the band to come here. I won’t be back in a hurry.

The New Cross Inn was for a while the central live music venue of New Cross, recently put onto the shadow of the Amersham Arms opened by the owners of the Camden Lock Tavern. It definitely has a more low key, artsy vibe but for me this is to its advantage as everyone knows the best rock and roll can be found in the dingiest, sweatiest corners of London. Drinks are cheap and the atmosphere is almost guaranteed to hit high velocity on an Friday or Saturday night with bands, dj’s and drinks galore.

I go here occasionally as the drinks are pretty cheap. You can get a shot and a mixer for two pounds. There is a stage area where open mics take place, and other live music booked. The sound is surprisingly not awful, and there is always a big crowd in there! It amazes me how many people are out on a monday night in new cross! Ofcourse, it is full of mainly students, but has a warm vibe about it. There is a pool table, no food, but DJ’s later on into the night, a reasonable dance floor and a nice lady in the toilets to dry your hands. There is an entry fee, but it is small, and if theres a band you want to see, it’s definitely worth it.

The New Cross Inn is a pub in South East London’s up-and-coming New Cross area. Live music and DJs are on every night, and there are often open mic nights. Entry is free or cheap(around £4) for entry to clubnights. Drinks are cheap(around £2 a pint for students, around £2.50 otherwise) and the pub has comfortable sofas, seating and a pool table.
