This place seems to have drastically gone downhill since I was last here a few years ago. We started with the prawn tempura. It was pretty inedible — greasy with heavy batter that tasted of old oil. Worse, they had not cleaned the poop shoots on the prawns. I know that being fried probably kills all the bacteria, but still… it’s poop! I then had the sweet and sour chicken(watery) and my fellow diner tried the pad Thai. Neither dish wowed us, but they were at least edible. We had a lovely, attentive and hard working waitress. However, the waiter who was on with her was awful. At one point I waved at him to ask if we could order some more drinks(eye contact, coughing and a strip tease had not caught his attention). He simply stood where he was(the other side of the restaurant) with his hand behind his ear indicating that I should shout my order. I made the point of getting up and walking towards him. He actually let me get all the way over to where he was standing without moving a muscle. It was an extremely disappointing visit and not one that I will be repeating.

This place is fine and reasonable but nothing more. It’s a fairly standard Thai restaurant typical by English standards.(sorry I have been to Thailand and tasted the real thing, so I know I am fussy) The décor is quite nice and authentic and prices are reasonable. I know they use under paid students there which puts me off, but again a fairly decent place otherwise.

Mmmmmm Mae Ping is de-licious! A real Thai treat is had when visiting Mae Ping on the high street of Beckenham. With all the usual dishes you expect to find at a Thai restaurant and more! It’s really great value for money and the staff are super friendly and kind! It’s easy to become a regular and find yourself chatting with the staff like they’re are friends! A really relaxed restaurant with wonderful food.

A really nice Thai restaurant. Good service, the house red wine was really drinkable which, for some reason, it often doesn’t seem to be in low and mid range Thai restaurants. Plenty of vegetarian options. Just good, tasty, fresh food. The last time I went, Saturday just gone, I had prawn crackers which are way better than the usual greasy fare, the obligatory vegetable spring rolls and jungle curry which was a bit too spicy for me(I’m out of practice!) but full of flavour underneath the heat. We used to eat in the sister restaurant in Bromley which was also good, but as that is no longer there, this will be our new local Thai of choice. Great location right opposite Beckenham Junction train station and not far from the main high street. I don’t think there’s parking.
