Local Thai finesse… my husband and I are great believers of supporting our local businesses. So this Valentine’s 2016 was no exception, we decided to try Mantanah Thai, after great reviews on Unilocal!Although it’s a small restaurant, they have certainly not lacked on the décor and friendly service. Although I think it took slightly longer than necessary to take our orders and clear away our plates, staff were immaculately dressed and polite. The food was really good, not too pricey, we had a starter and a main and was so full… we will definitely be going back there even if it’s for takeaway !!!

Ive been wanting to try a thai take away for ages and when I typed in top thai places in London this place came up, not only is it a local restaurant to me but they deliver too so its perfect. The menu is full of appealing dishes it was so hard to decide. It was my boyfriends takeaway treat with the family so we went large on the ordering. starters of pork/prawn dumplings, the golden triangle, spare ribs, and spring rolls. Starters were delish but then it got better. For our mains we ordered honey spiced chargrilled chicken, brown rice, pad thai, thai red curry, a chilli beef dish and a oyster sauce beef dish… all was amazing and so tasty! They also gave us two free tiger beers which was a nice gesture for the men in the family. All in all I think this will become my favourite weekend food delivery the lady on the phone was also very polite. although thai food is not as cheap as any other cuisine so will be a monthly treat :) Would love to go to the restaurant too and experience the food there.

We ordered some food to be delivered last night from Mantanah and may just have found our new favourite take away! The ordering process was not quite as smooth as I would have liked — I had to repeat myself a few times, however the right food arrived to the correct address exactly in the 30 – 40 minutes promised, and it was hot. So that was the first tick. We ordered: 51. vegetables in oyster sauce, 33. Phad Priew Waarn(sweet & sour & slightly hot chicken with tomatoes,) 121. Hen’s Noodles and some brown rice. It came to just shy of 20 quid and they threw in some very nice prawn crackers — the really crunchy, slightly spicy kind. Everything we ordered was delicious. The noodles were especially nice, and I’m not usually a noodles fan. What really made the food was the vegetables. They were cooked to perfection, crunchy and full of flavour. Now, if only the delivery chap could manage a smile. ;-)

This place always delivered good taste and good portions… Gotta say, those days have ended. Last time the portions were delivered(home delivery) they were tiny and they forgot the sauces. So when we ordered this time we stated that we had been disappointed and just let them know why. But they turned up again small. We called them and they didn’t seem very interested. So may be they are becoming a victim of their fame… Pork was dry, spring rolls were bland and soggy.

Mantanah looks set to be yet another one of my 5 star Thai restaurants, because seriously… our meal here blew us away, and we were never expecting it here in deep south London. What you need to know is that Mantanah is way way down in Crystal Palace, run by a wonderful group of Thais and serving dishes that are just right on every level and with fresh ingredients flown in weekly from Thailand. Jackfruit, mango, coconut, banana blossom and bamboo shoots — it’s a place for a foodie day trip. Trust me. It’s cheap, flavourful, homely and authentic. The menu is long and full of surprises and some of the more obscure yet rewarding Thai dishes from the far North, the fiery East or the dirty South. If it’s noodles you’re after, they can’t be beat. Curries; again, they excel. And if you’re vegetarian then this will be HEAVEN for you. With almost as many meat-free dishes as the rest of the menu, with fun names and interesting flavours. Our meal was starters of fish cakes, satay and duck spring rolls, followed by coconut rice with a hot Northern chicken curry with peanuts and tumeric, an amazing dish of pork and young jackfruit and a scorching sweet red curry of pork and coconut flesh. Every mouthful tasted just right, and our only regret was not trying the rest of the menu. A recent addition to Mantanah is a phrase guide for Thai on each table, so if you’d like to learn a few words then get here for a meal. In fact, if you’re heading to Thailand for any reason soon then a preparatory meal at Mantanah is a must. My dining companion and I don’t need to know what’s what though… we know Mantanah is Aroi Maak Maak.
