Great café on a charming square that also houses a cinema and a hotel. Service is fast and friendly, and the coffee was tasty(and much needed on a Sunday morning). The café has plenty of seating and staff don’t mind if you work, read or linger doing whatever the heck you please. What makes the café shine is the food with a scandi touch, including hot soups and freshly baked cinnamon rolls. These are flavored with cardamom in the Swedish style, and served heated on a plate, leaving them soft and gooey and very moreish. Definitely worth a stop in whether for an afternoon of working, a catch up with a friend, or a quick meal.

Comfortable interior with the usual choice of coffee and snacks. There’s a nice large table that patrons are expected to share, and then a number of smaller niche type spots all of which feel a bit dark and cornered. Not the place where you’d want to hang out and read through the paper. Hej can be a nice place depending on how crowded it is. On a Sunday morning it does get rather full, like all trendy-hip places of this kind, they attract Sunday bohemians, and it will be loud. There will be people queuing stranding right next to where you sit. Choose On a weekend, if you want peace, you may want to go to a slightly more conservative looking place that isn’t quite as popular.

Great little place to meet a friend for coffee or to get some work done. They have Wifi and plenty of seating and tables for people to work. The staff is friendly and the coffee is great.

Hej is another great addition to the cafes on/near Bermondsey Street. If it’s not the coffee that brings you in, it’s the beautiful flower mart they have outside. Beautiful to look at but as you would expect, very £££. The coffee is little above average in terms of price point but definitely worth coming to check it out on the weekend!

Hidden gem tucked inside the Bermondsey Square market, next to a lovely flower stand(Dante). Wandered in and was so pleasantly surprised. Great staff and service, perfectly prepared porridge and cup of tea, apple muffin for takeaway that was equally yummy. Indoor cozy seating for about 15 people and a few outdoor tables nestled among flowers. Not too loud at all and great wifi. If I ever get lost in this neighborhood(again), I will definitely be back. :)

Super relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere! I felt really comfortable being there even if I was alone. The carrot cake is to die for and tastes ultra fresh and home made as it has the most carroty taste I’ve ever tasted in a carrot cake. If you’re a small eater like me, I warn you not to take a whole piece for yourself, it’s way too much! Honestly I could have stayed there for hours while reading my book and enjoying my coffee. The problem is that they have no toilet. So unless you have a super bladder, your time there has to be limited. I’m thinking that maybe they did this on purpose because otherwise people would stay there the whole day? So share your cake, don’t drink too much and you’ll have the nicest time at HEJ Coffee!

Odd table settings(gets packed easily) and no bathrooms :-/ As I take out my food or coffee I don’t mind about this though

Very calm and comfortable atmosphere. The coffee is great and I love the blueberry muffins. The best thing is I can take my little dog! Will definitely be visiting regularly.

Coffee is not great! Roasted too much, too hot and bitter. The place is beautiful, however and pastry selection is good.

The Cinnamon Bun I had here was the best I’d ever had. And I say that having been exposed to Swedish cuisine from living with Swedes for years, journeying across Sweden for three weeks and having many a Swedish friend. The bun was warm. The bun had jam. The bun had cinnamon. The bun was nourishing. It elicited much joy. I had a ‘Great white’ flat white too, which again was pretty darn good. I like the option of having free extra shots«if you can take it,» which is rare to see. They have the usual coffee kit for sale(V60s, grinders etc), including their house coffee which at £10 for 500 grams seemed surprisingly good value. Its ye-olde warehouse location just adds to the charm while its apparent popularity with local Swedes further cements its appeal. Fantastic, or as the Swedes might say: Jättebra!

Thank you, Hej. Thank you for making excellent coffee, with great service, in a nice place to relax. This is the friendliest batch of baristas this side of the Thames. They are happy to make recommendations, and seem to really take pride in providing excellent coffee(and they do!). Additionally, the Scandinavian interior is fresh and bright. Just what you need in foggy London. I haven’t made it through all the pastries yet, but I highly recommend the banana peanut butter bread, or the banana nutella blondies. Don’t share these. You will want them all to yourself. Keep it up Hej! Welcome to the neighborhood!

A hidden Swedish gem on Bermondsey Square. The menu is small but tasty. For savory options there are meat or veggie meatballs. The meatballs come in a nice vegetable stew and with some crusty bread to soak up the sauce. The meat-meatballs are delicious and super juicy. For sweet options there are a variety of pastries. Get the Cinnamon Bun — it will change your life! It’s not the cheapest café, but think worth the money for the good ingredients!

Today I finally managed to venture down South to Bermondsey to check out HEJ Coffee. It is a lovely, clean and simple coffee shop, Scandinavian style at its best. Of course, besides sampling a decent and quite strong flat white, I could not leave without tasting a cinnamon bun. Slightly warm, it was as sticky as you expect — and delicious. HEJ Coffee is another Swedish place in London to watch. I will definitely have to come back to check out the meatballs…
