Good place just around the corner from Liverpool St. Nice vibes, huge sized portions and great deals with the set menus.(Visit — 18/09/2014 Dinner)

It was the first time here and I can’t say how disappointed I was. I never give reviews so of course it has to be that bad for me to bother. The service was terrible, very polite but terrible! I specifically asked if it was cooked with something I can’t have and she said no it does not have X. So clearly she understood the question. But when it was brought out is did have it. Then was told she must not have understood. No, she just messed up. So I then had to wait for another dish to be made. So ordered 2 drinks while we waited. No drinks. I had to ask 3 different people till we finally got them. It was just the worst service ever. And clearly I wasn’t the only person who felt so as the table next to me had a very heated conversation with them complaining about the service. Who was actually asked to leave in the end. The manager(I assume) apologised to the other table next to them but not us AND we were actually still waiting for those drinks at that point. All I can say is beyond ridiculous. Food good, service terrible, price not worth it.

This restaurant is in my neighborhood and I have actually never eaten in the restaurant, but only got takeaway from here. However, the food was pretty amazing! I always get the Kuzu Shishi, which is grilled lamb on skewers. The meat is always so perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. The portion is quite generous. I find myself craving this dish every few weeks, and I am yet to venture to try other dishes!

Haz is a small chain of Turkish restaurants in the east london area where the focus is only healthy Mediterranean style food including grilled meats. However, you should bypass this one and go straight to their other branch in Mincing Lane. This location suffers the same problem evident in allot of chains where the food is just not delivered with the same consistency. The meat at this place tasted a tough and didn’t have the same quality as their other location in mincing lane.

As a first Turkish dining experience, Haz was okay. My husband and I joined our friends for a double date and our friend suggested the restaurant as he walks by it frequently on lunch and it is always packed full of people. The night we dined at Haz was no different. We were seated promptly and given menus. In many ways, Haz was pleasant. In many other ways, however, it needs improvement. We ordered the vegetarian mezze without bothering to check what it was — all of us were open to trying something new. Fresh bread was delivered to our table as many times as we wanted and we used it to enjoy our dips and other starters. Our starters arrived after our cocktails, which was strange, and our server(who struggled with English from the beginning to the end of our meal) had some trouble understanding my order of a double vodka soda with lime. He handed me a glass full of soda water with a lime wedge before we explained to him what the drink order actually meant. The drink order was rectified and brought back promptly. After appetizers, we ordered mains. Our server couldn’t answer basic questions about the menu which was worrisome. As all four of us were vegetarians and we had questions about what ingredients were in some of the mains, he was unable to answer. Worry not — a colleague took our order. We ordered four vegetarian mains, eagerly awaiting our meal thinking everything was going to be fabulous. When my husband’s dish arrived, there was a problem — he had asked for his dish to have aubergines removed from it and there they were, present all over the dish. By the time his main came, we had almost finished our meals as he had urged us to start eating. To ease our disappointment and frustration, the restaurant gave us four glasses of wine which was a nice accompaniment, but I would have rather enjoyed my dinner with my husband being able to eat with us. The mains, in terms of vegetarian options, were disappointing. If we could have ordered again, we’d stick to the plentiful(extremely) vegetarian options in terms of hot and cold starters and order a variety of those and share them, tapas-style. The mains lacked flavor and were each served with a bowl of rice which didn’t make any sense. If it wasn’t for the hot sauce served with our meals, everything would have been lackluster. Dessert was fantastic. I ordered apricots stuffed with cream and nuts and pistachio. Our friends ordered a pastry stuffed with chestnut cream and cinnamon. Both were served with ice cream(no idea what flavor it was). We scraped our plates — they were fantastic. For vegetarians, the starters and desserts are the redeeming qualities of Haz. Mains and the service leave a LOT to be missed. We appreciated the good service we received but it came after fundamental mistakes were made. That being said, many of our neighbors were enjoying their meals and we enjoyed parts of it as well. For our next dive into Turkish cuisine, however, I think we’ll be dining somewhere else.

Excellent food, great prices, and large portions; but a little slow on the water. Good for late-night food in an area where the kitchens close early.

Turkish food always takes me home to those good flavours I had on the street growing up. Not that I was living on the street, but I could easily be found there devouring some of the fresh delicious food the vendors were hawking. Haz is a little more upscale from those vendors of days past, but the food is still pretty close to the flavours little me loved. I visited the one near Bank for a catch up dinner with a few mates. This place is great for things like that as it’s casual relaxed atmosphere lets you let your hair down(metaphorically speaking as I have none myself) and the staff won’t bother you except to bring your food or top up the wine(smart guys… we made it through two bottles despite swearing a one bottle limit before dinner). The hummous and range of dips to start were excellent. It’s amazing how much better such a dish tastes when the pitta is warm, and yet how few places will go to that little extra effort. Haz does. For my main, I naturally went for a tagine(granted that’s more Morrocan, but hey it’s all about fusion these days anyway). The meat was succulent, the fruit moist and fresh, and the sauce thick and rich. Overall, a great meal. My dining companions were likewise pleased with their choices(and thus reducing the issue of food envy) and had a range of items from roast chicken to falafel to meatballs. So it’s safe to say that the majority of the menu is going to hit the spot. The wine selection isn’t massive, but the simple choices are great complements with the meal and makes the decision easier. My main gripe is that the portions weren’t big enough and I wanted more, but I suppose that’s better than not being able to finish from lack of desire. Give it a shot when you are having a chill night out, it’s a good pick.

Came here twice while on a business trip for a reason! Reasonable prices for small plates, and the small plates let you try many things. Favorites include the hallumi and the kofte small plates.

Great for a crowd where you want something outside of ordinary… it is just too bad Haz is ordinary. I stopped in at Haz with coworkers who were very excited to share. Honestly — it was good, but nothing exciting. It is the typical Mediterranean flare — starters served as tapas and a mixture of main courses prepared to meet the needs of most pallets. This place is a good business spot.

The food here is quite good — not the most wonderful Turkish food I’ve ever had, but very good. It seems the service is a bit scattered, slow and sometimes difficult to flag down. It is possible that the weekday experience is better, as I’m sure they have a stronger staff during the business week. All that being said, the location is prime for a business lunch or dinner, and the food does not disappoint. I would not hesitate to bring people to Haz on business, not would I hesitate to grab a take away lunch during the work week.

Visited Haz with OH& family for Mother’s Day lunch. The restaurant is very smart and well-presented and definitely seems to be after the mid-week business crowd(hardly surprising in this location), but was very quiet(especially compared to the queues-out-of-doors establishments around nearby Spitalfields Market) when we visited. Prices are reasonable for the location, but both food and service are disappointingly average with hummus completely lacking in any kind of texture(yuck) and unappetisinly presented, flavourless chicken casserole(guvech) tarnishing some pretty tasty chicken shish, moussaka and various mezze. Nothing dreadful, but definitely won’t bother going again.

Turkish cuisine is one my favorite cuisines, but this place managed to disappoint me. In what matters, food, this place is at most average. The grilled meat was nothing special and icli kofte was disappointing. Actually, the only thing that was impressive was the decoration in the restaurant. But in a city where you can find excellent doner in so many places, it is really a miracle that this place is so successful…

A kebab house in a suit really. Good service, stunning turkish bread and dips as an amuse bouche, everything else rather average. helim /haloumi as a starter is always pleasant, the mixed grill just a little too ordinary. Good wine list and not much else to say.

Excellent menu, great food. The mix grill is fantastic! Very busy place during the week days, must book for lunch. Nice and quite in the weekend, great for a romantic dinner. Good value for money. Great service. Very clean and a great atmosphere.

Great value Turkish food. Set menu, 2 courses for £10. I had hummus and chicken kebab, delicious. Friendly efficient service, good value wine list too. Casual atmosphere.

Given my liking for Turkish food, i was surprised that i found out about this place hidden within the narrow alleys of the City only in 2009. At first sight it seemed to me to be one of the formal diners in the city where the bankers get their clients. But once we were seated, it actually felt a lot more«homely». The food was very very good … among the better turkish food i have had in london. I would strongly recommend the«iskander kebab». Actually i feel they are not interested in letting customers order much as they keep supplying us with the tasty bread and hummus while we wait for the main course and so by the time the food arrives, i am almost full :) This place seems a very popular birthday haunt to me. Everytime i have been there i have seen the lights go off at least once and«Happy birthday to you» being played. We tried that once too … the chocolate cake was delicious. My only complain probably is with the vegetarian options. Its disappointing to see my veggie friends have pastas in a place like this. Do try it … i am sure any meat lover will enjoy it here.

This place is amazing! I was taken here by my friend who raved about how wonderful the food is at Haz. First of all, the atmosphere is sophisticated and simple. But the prices was quite reasonable. We started off with a few mini appetizers which I really have no clue what they were. But it was all very delicious and all the flavours blended well together. For my entrée, I had the mixed grill(lamp and chicken kabobs on a bed of rice). It was amazing!!! The meat was perfectly grilled, very moist and flavourful. Usually my experience with kabobs are dried fleshes of meat on a stick. But the kabobs were well executed here. I will definitely come back again.

I found this to be a very good experience, a tad on the pricey side but the food was well prepared. It was clean, service was prompt, and they served ice water!!! Ice water isnt common in the UK. Anyways, I had a lamb kabob and it was delicious and well prepared. I would recommend it. Its a white table cloth restaraunt so the atmosphere is very polished and business but the food is more casual because its KABOBS! But overall good food but like everything in London, it was pricey.

I used to work very close to here and had to return home each night past the delicious smells wafting from the kitchen. I have been here for lunch a couple of times and the food is always excellent — especially the shish kebabs. The down side though is it can be very crowded. Especially at lunch — it is a little noisy and not very private Other than that though, it is a nice place to go for a bite and the location is pretty handy

Haz was very good, modern and yet very antique. The food was alright and no more than ok. I was disappointed by the poor service which, if it was much better, would improve the impression of Haz. I feel that Haz has its unique charm which makes people want to return. I, however did not recognize that charm personally and therefore I can only speak my honest mind. I didnt not like Haz. Pro’s: Alright, but could be better in all categories Con’s: Not up to standard.
