Placé rive sud de la Tamise, le City Hall est l’hôtel de ville de Londres. Conçu pour moderniser l’image de la capitale anglaise, il a la forme d’une sorte de bulbe, une idée visant à limiter la consommation d’énergie.
L’intérieur peut se visiter mais pas entièrement. Au tout début, une salle de réception était ouverte au public. On pouvait profiter d’une chouette vue sur le Tower Bridge. Malheureusement à force d’une trop grande affluence, son accès est désormais totalement interdit.

Iconic building… just had seafood linguine with braised red cabbage and rosemary roasted carrots, which sounds nicer than it was but for a shade under £5 in that part of London is surprisingly good value… you are eating the office canteen food of the City Hall staff and paying the same prices. Anyway, its worth a look just to catch the views from a different angle.

Brilliant building, especially when you are inside the Mayor’s chamber

A modernist symbol of a modern city — love it or hate it, this is a true landmark. City hall is part of the More London development and houses our own Boris Johnson. On the ground floor, a café serves cheap fare and an exhibition space is open to the public. Art changes regularly, but on the floor a huge fixed satellite photo of London is intriguing — just try and find your own street!
There are also small boardrooms on the ground floor available for hire, with the large council chamber upstairs visible for the public to see debates in session. The unique design of the building means that there are river and city views from every floor. The showpiece is definitely the new London’s Living Room on the 7^th floor. A circular event space it can be privately hired for parties for about 200 people. The wrap-​around balconies on this top floor let guests get one of the best views in London, across Tower Bridge to Canary Wharf, over HMS Belfast to the Gherkin and beyond.
Worth popping in to have a nosey at the great architecture, after all — you funded it!!!

Diese Beobachtung bezieht sich auf das Umfeld der City-​Hall.
Unweit der Tower-​Bridge findet sich ein neu-​urbaniosierter Uferabschnitt der Themse. diese rl, eigt zwischen Tower-​Bridge und 2000er-​Brücke. Und da liegt vor allem ein Neubau schwer im Blickfeld: Ein Ei — die sogenannte City-​Hall. Leute, ich sage Euch nur eins: Noch nie war London so was von oval! London ja, EI nein. DIEses EI erinnert doch sehr an diverse neumodische Buildings, welche seit der Jahrtausendwende Europa überschwemmen.
Hier an diesem EIerlei wandeln täglich abertausende Touristen vorbei, und dies nicht unbedingt wegen der GEwagten ovalen Form der Halle, sondern, weil die Touris einfach Hunger haben und vor lauter Schönheit was zu Essen suchen. Man muss bedenken, daß wir uns hier im zulest befriedeten bzw. zuletzt touristisierten und geschniegelten Bereich an der Themse befinden, und hier gibt es nur eine einzige U-​BAHN-​Station in der Nähe. Neubau? Bus? Tram? Seilbahn? Kutschendienste? Fehlanzeige. Planung? Fehlanzeige. Gutes Schuhwerk? Dringend anzuraten! Der Rest erklärt sich wohl von selbst.
Zurück zum EIgentlichen Anliegen. Weil das EI allein doch zu geschmacklos daherkommt, haben findige Künstler sich etwas einfallen lassen. Rundherum um diese Halle sind nun seit 2007
ebenso ovale, aber kleinere schwarze Spassobjekte entstanden. Hierdurch entsteht bereits von weitem schon der Eindruck, dasss man hier in einem ovalen Revier wandelt.
Nun gut — es gibt sicherlich schlimmeres. Und von daher — bitteschön — ist selbst solch eine EItraktion Londons eine Attraktion. Foto übrigens anbei!!!

This building, as well as containing the Mayor of London, is open to the public, and there are many different reasons to take the time to visit. The building is wonderful, and — if you happen to visit at a time when «London’s Living Room» (a space on the top floor used for events) is accessible, then the views are second to none.
There is a café on the ground floor, with a good range of decent food, at reasonable prices. I would recommend stopping in as part of a trip to the area — London Dungeons, the Tower, HMS Belfast are all very close — rather then as an end in itself.
Every member of the public has to go through a metal detector to get into the building. There is never a long wait.
