The most unpleasant experience. A friend recommended this place and when my friend and I found ourselves in the area we went in to check it out. The place was pretty packed when we arrived but I could see a large table with 4 seats free. However we were told we would have to sit by the bar on stalls to eat or wait 20 minutes for a table. When I enquired about the free 4 seats she said that was for a larger party. I said we could share with two other people but she wouldn’t let us sit there. We ended up sitting by the bar watching the staff make the food. I asked them to let us know if space becomes available on a table. Later I was told we can sit at the original table I had suggested earlier! When the waiter came over I enquired about their vegeburger, asking what the burger patty was made of ie, rice, cheese etc. He ran off a list of ingredients and I confirmed again that it was a patty not a big mushroom and he said yes. However when I received the burger and fries, the burger turned out to be a bread bun with a big mushroom and other veg, no patty. The manager saw me looking at the burger and asked what’s wrong. He said he would change it for a normal burger and whipped it away before I could say no cheese. He came back with a cheese burger and even though I hate cheese I ate it anyway because I didn’t want to cause a fuss. Unfortunately it wasn’t very nice and it lived up to it’s name ‘Dirty Burger’, really wet and messy to eat. My friend wasn’t that impressed with her burger either. While I was waiting for the bill to come a waiter came over to my table with a drinks tray. It’s not clear if he was trying to pick up empty glasses from the table or drop off drinks but he managed to drop a full glass of coke on the table, which propelled the drink up in the air in my direction. The coke landed all over me, in my hair, face, clothes, even my down jacket which was laying on the bench beside me got soaked. The waiter then stared at me wiping drink from my face and clothes then carried on mopping up the table then quickly left, no apology, nothing. After 10 minutes of waiting for help the manager later came over to ask what happened, apologised and someone finally brought over tissue to help me wipe off the drink. I had to tell the manager we shouldn’t be paying for our meals especially since I have to dry clean my clothes and he agreed. It would have been forgiveable if the waiter had apologised but he just buggered off without a word. I promptly left and will never go back. Shockingly bad customer service.

Great limited-menu place which allows you a choice of chicken or burger(with some slight variations). We split a whole chicken between two of us and it even left some leftovers(after ordering a side). The chicken was amazingly tender from roasing on the spit. The smoky sauce was a winner for me moreso than the ‘hot’ sauce which was more like Tabasco and had a more sweet taste. A bit hidden, being set back off the street, but be sure to venture inside. Can’t wait to try the burger sometime in the future!

LOVE the chicken shop, and this place serves both chicken shop and dirty burger! Brilliant idea, we went in a huge group of 16, and although they don’t do reservations, we went an hour earlier to tell them and they saved us a big space. Amazing food, delicious cocktails… Might get a bit cold so bring a coat!

Fantastic chicken. Was just walking down from Liverpool Street to Stratford after a few drinks on brick lane so we decided to pop in here on the way past. Looked fun. But when the food came OMG. SERIOUSSTUFF. I had ½ chicken and my lady had the dirty bacon burger we had an avocado lettuce mustard salad and onion fries. WOW! We’ll be back!

I’ve been to the Whitechapel one and quite like it though it’s a stretch of road that is quite random. I sat outside and had the cheeseburger and fries. Both quite good. Nothing majorly special. For some reason I prefer the ambience of the shack in Kentish Town though service here is excellent with staff very accomodating. This is a little hidden shack not far from Kentish Town with a little walk. I really like the feel of this place when you step in, as it’s not like any other burger restaurant as it doesn’t feel like a restaurant. Good sauces and good booze to boot too. It’ an all round good egg of a burger. Cooked and seasoned well. Had better experience to eat then other branches though maybe it’s because I had a few beers beforehand and then had my dirtyburger. Felt appropriate.

This was our second time around here. We shared a dirty burger, and half a chicken with coleslaw, chips, avocado & greens salad. The burger is super juicy and the patty, bun and sauce blend into one delicious taste, which is the sign of a good hamburger. The chicken is perfectly roasted with the right moist level. Mmmmm! All the sides are excellent: the coleslaw fresh and very light on mayo, the salad crisp with a mustard vinaigrette and really good crisps. Two sauces on offer, mildly spicy and very spicy. Both very tasty. Only the service could still improve… our bartender kept mixing up our order up to the point it became funny. Luckily we could all laugh about it.

Best. Burger. In. London. Very nice and pleasant staff, quick service and the food is out of this world! For a fair price having in mind the quality of service and food. I live nearby and this restaurant is gonna render me bankrupt! PS: They have takeaway!

I came here as a result of a convenient intersection of wants. I wanted some chicken and chips and I wanted to go somewhere within walking distance of the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. The Chicken Shop ticked both boxes. The restaurant looks a bit hipster and I was a little confused about where I should go when I went inside. But soon enough I was invited to sit at the counter where I could observe close-up the chickens being cooked rotisserie style. I ordered a quarter chicken with crinkle cut chips and a can of Ting. It was ready promptly and looked generous and delicious. The proof of the lunch was in the eating and it passed the test. The chicken was cooked just to my liking and had a tasty skin. The chips were yum and the can of Ting washed it all down nicely. I noticed that they had a variety of dessert favourites on offer, but I gave them a miss lest I became ‘too full’. The whole visit went smoothly and I didn’t feel rushed. I would recommend this restaurant as a solid option in the area and I would prefer it over the Nando’s nearby.

We went for a quick lunch recently. Not impressed at all! Too much mustard mayo on the burger and my bacon was far too thick and fatty! Not good! The waiter, could have been the manager, has a serious attitude problem! He seemed irritated by us and was neither attentive or friendly. A Spanish waiter made more of an effort! Overall too expensive and too fatty! The onion fries, as they call them, are awful! Will not be back, prefer GBK a thousand times more!

Seriously mediocre, I’ve had much better burgers at this price point. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that they are serving deep-fried freezer fries, not much potato taste to these suckers at all. I mean, c’mon, if you want to run a burger and fries joint at least try to do the basics right… The service was confusing and not attentive whatsoever. Probably wont be back.

After reading all of the reivews for Dirty Burger, and merrily hopping on over to Whitechapel the other day I must say I was pretty disapointed. The burger itself was tasty, but so unbelieveably oily I couldn’t actually pick it up with my hands to eat without it sliding apart. It was also much smaller than what I was expecting for £7.50. The onion ‘fries’ were mostly lumps of batter which I couldn’t even finish. Also, I get what atmosphere they are going for; stripped back and simple, but the stools we sat on were really uncomfortable and did not encourage us to spend more than 30 minutes there. The worst part about it though is the waiting service. I felt like the waiters were annoyed with us when we were choosing where to sit, and then at the end, when they added the service charge(which does actually say optional) and we didn’t have enough cash on us to cover this the waiter practically begged us to give it to them, then effectively asked us to leave right away when I told him that I didn’t have the full tip on me. It was really upsetting, because I took enough cash to cover our food and a smaller tip(we tipped initally around £1 less than what was on the receipt). I think overall I want to try the chicken shop side of the food as that did look tasty, but I’ve been put off from ever going back by intense staff and the overall atmosphere which is smokey, cramped and noisy.

Forget about ‘Finger Lickin’ Good!’…the chicken here is the stuff dreams are made of. I’m salivating at the memory. You choose between the Dirty Burger and the Chicken Shop menu, limited selection but you can tell disappointment will not be a feeling you’re going to have to contend with. My sister and I shared a half chicken with a portion of chips each and a coleslaw to share. Killer combo although the sides portions are so spectacular that you might need to consider rolling home. Despite sneakily pointing the most expensive wine our way(it was great so no real complaints there!) the waiter was a friendly face. I’m counting down the days until I can return.

Been here twice now, and have had the opportunity to try both the roast chicken and the burger. I’d say while the the burger was decent, the chicken was downright amazing, and will most definitely be my dish of choice each time I visit. I dare say the chicken is the best chicken I’ve had in London(and probably the UK); the chicken is cooked over a coal fire for the right amount of time and came out nice and juicy, and the skin tasted incredibly delicious too. It really is a bargain at £15 for a whole chicken. I don’t have any real comments on the atmosphere or the service. It’s got your typical industrial East London hipster-ish décor and is also a little noisy, so it’s definitely not a place I’d recommend for a date. There’s also the possibility of having to wait for a table in the event it’s crowded, but it helps if you don’t mind sitting at the bar. Just a quick warning: if you end up sitting by the bar near where the food preparation is taking place, you may find that stray bits of juices and sauce come flying your way when the(cooked) chicken is being chopped up. I wear glasses so I had protection, but if I hadn’t been, some of the sauce would have gone straight into my eyes, and that would not have been good at all!

Came here for lunch and it was just okay. nothing special. Cheeseburger was thin, not much taste to it. Bun was also nothing special. Cheese did add a nice flavor. Onion fries were not good at all. There was way too much dough to them and not enough onion. No taste besides the salt and pepper sprinkled on them. Place is way over priced. Cheeseburger — £6 Coke — £2.50(seriously!?) Onion fries — £3.25 Mandatory service charge, 12.5% I believe

Ok, the burgers are seriously delicious in the most decadent, juicy, artery-clogging way possible. No regrets. The IPA that they had on tap was also on-point. So refreshing and just enough to get me talking about my feelings, or something like that. So why only 3 stars? The service here leaves something to be desired. The whole place is just one big room so it’s kind of hard to not notice when we’re trying to flag down a waiter… Friend and I sat down and were promptly ignored for fifteen minutes while three servers milled around chatting with each other, one decided to consolidate ketchup and mayonnaise into bottles right next to us. It was confusing to the point where we wondered if we were supposed to walk right up to the bar to order food. Flagging down waitstaff was a consistent challenge throughout the meal, for reasons still mysterious to me. It’s too bad, because this is a place that would otherwise get tons of money from me(and maaaybe even convince me to trek out of my way to go to Whitechapel), but until the front of house is all on the same page, I’ll stick to the hundreds of other delicious burger joints in London.

Went here a couple of weeks ago. Had walked by several times, and it’s always super busy, so this has been on my to-do list for a while. I can’t speak for the buns, as I had my burger without(trying to avoid unnecessary carbs). That’s actually better, because you really get into what the meat tastes like, vs getting distracted by the bun :) First of all, the place has a ton of atmosphere. Plywood, benches, steel structures, industrial lights, open kitchen. We had the avocado salad, and both had bunless dirty bacon burgers, medium rare. The burgers were super, super juicy; I’d put it up there with patty & bun. What really stands out is the bacon. It’s a single slice of heaven. Thick cut, streaky, hickory smoked, and glistening with maple syrup glazing. It is firm, has the perfect texture, and with just the rigth about of chewiness. Not cripsy, which makes it burger friendly(although I love crispy bacon). That bacon will make you close your eyes, shiver, and smile. Their apple pie is also fantastic. I love how they bring over the entire pie to you, show it to you, and then cut you a massive slice(I feel like they have me a quarter of the pie). Yeah, it was probably 850 calories for a single slice, but it’s worth it. Have been tempted to try their doughnuts, but again, afraid of what this will do to me if I get started. The service was excellent, super friendly; even though they’re always busy, they don’t seem to rush you. They’re efficient, and you leave because you’re intrinsically aware that there are people waiting by the nature of the place and it’s architecture. Net/net — I love this place, and I love how the area around white chapel is gentrifying while still preserving its ethnically unique feel. I also love how this part of London is getting a bit of a Brooklyn/Williamsburg(NY) feel. This is a definitely a part of town to watch.

What a lovely place! Oddly positioned next to a Nandos, I love the new Chicken Shop location. We were peddling by in the scorching sun and their outdoor seating caught my eye. This location looks more like an actual barn than any restaurant I’ve ever been in. If you are in the mood for proper sit down dining, then this is not the place for you. We plopped down on the outside plywood tables — managing to not give myself a dirty wood splinter in the thigh, and perused the menu. I love their fries, so crispy and so so good. I wish their cider menu was a bit better than just one bottle but that one bottle is local brewery, Crate Brewery, so I can’t complain too much. Lovely staff.

Three of us went and shared a whole chicken, 4 sides and had a drink each. Including service our bill was £17 each which I think is decent given the amount of food we were given and, I should say, the quality of the chicken. Beautifully succulent and tasty bird. I’ve always liked Nando’s but this chicken was better. If I could have Chicken Shop chicken with Nando’s extra hot sauce then that’d be the dream for me. Service was excellent and very friendly and accommodating. Business was booming so we were told it’d be a 15 – 20 minute wait. I asked if it was alright if we went down the road to The White Hart for a drink and came back which was met without hesitation with«sure, we’ll call you when we’re ready for you». Not only can you not say fairer than that but the time it took was 15 – 20 minutes later. All in all a really nice evening in another very welcome addition to the neighbourhood.

Turns out I have no idea where Whitechapel is. You see I thought Whitechapel was at the start of brick lane and have thought this for years, but no, it’s further East. Quite a bit further east… I’ve been mistaking Aldgate and Whitechapel for a decade. So, if you are prepared to venture this far out for this branch of the dirty burger/chicken shop chain then coming here is a good option. It’s not actually that tough to get to as it’s one stop from Shoreditch High Street(which, incidentally has it’s own Dirty burger without the chicken so bear that in mind). Some of the others are either burgers or chicken but this one has both and is housed in an interesting building with cool décor and an open kitchen. To be honest, I loved my food here. We had moist chicken and tasty burgers… Yum. A problem with the grill(although it seemed to be turning just fine to me) meant that it took longer than I normally expect for our food to arrive(about 40 mins from ordering). One warning, this road makes up part of a particularly nasty stretch of a cycle superhighway. Take the tube or some backstreets instead.
