The manager asked us to come back in half an hour because it was too full, when we came back a waitress told us that the kitchen was closed while the manager ignored us(standing a few meters from us). So disrespectful. Not a way to manage a restaurant. For chance there are a few more places in Brixton for Caribbean food, with better manners and great food. We ended in one of those and did not regret the rudeness of Bamboula.

Shout to Brixton! The food was amazing! Had the curry chicken and it was excellent… they use good ingredients. Sure, I wished the portions were bigger, but you can’t have everything. If you are visiting the UK, you should go and hit up this place. You will not be disappointed.

I had such a lovely lunch here when I visited London last month. My travel partner was spending the day in Stonehenge, and I had a hankering to explore Brixton. Admittedly, I was seeking out another Caribbean restaurant, and it was closed, so I wandered back towards Brixton’s Underground station, and stumbled in here(with the help of Unilocal). The server seemed incredulous that a tourist would eat at Bamboula – indeed, the neighborhood itself isn’t exactly a tourist hot spot – and alone, at that. But there I was, and she was quite friendly and willing to guide me through the menu.(What I found amusing was how many things they were out of, though.) I started with the pumpkin soup – which was definitely spicy as someone else pointed out – but I didn’t mind that a bit because I love spicy food. Then I moved on to a jerk lamb platter. Man, that lamb was so juicy and tender. It was all I could do to not look like a heathen savage as I tore it apart and dipped it into the house-made SPICY-AS-HELL sauce that came with it. Thank goodness for the sweet potato fries and coleslaw that helped cool my tongue down! Use that sauce sparingly, I tell you! I definitely had my fill, and I thought the price was reasonable – even with my pitiful US Dollar to British Pound conversion rate. The atmosphere was very cute. Colorful, definitely in keeping with the Caribbean theme, and the music was on point. Maybe a teeny bit loud. I could see this being a really happening place to get together for dinner with friends.

This place is cheerful and bright and the food is great if you like spicy food. Just be forewarned that EVERYTHING is spicy =/Even the pumpkin soup. As someone who is spice-averse, I hoped that would be safe, but no dice. I could barely eat it as my eyes burned. My husband though really liked his goat. We agreed the plaintains were just meh. I prefer them caramelized and these were a bit too firm.

it was only about a month ago that you could drop by or give them a call so you could order and pick up your food, suddenly they sadly dont do this anymore, the price went up quickly as well, i use to order to pick it up when its ready to the tune of £8 but the counter lady told me they only do online deliveries now, i had a quick check and you need to order minimum £15, Food is nice and filling but they made it hard for those who cannot stay and dine in :(

Went for a leaving do meal with close friends. Ordered food and was told in a roundabout way if we could move table by a certain time if still there because they had another booking… We awkwardly agreed. Then approached again and in a roundabout way told if we could finish our meal. Bill was brought before we even asked and then told they do not accept card. When we told the waitress/manager that we were unhappy she kept smiling and saying it is ok and no need for our grumbles. What a shambles clearly not very good at managing bookings and clearly happy to make a negative experience for a set of customers who have frequented there before to fill their tills with double bookings. Greed vs customer service you decide.
Such a lovely place. Its one of my favorites. Been here few times and its a great experience. There’s always someone from that the staff that can make you enjoy your stay, being all friendly, polite and welcoming. There’s a wide selection of dishes and drinks in the menu and all priced reasonably. This place is a must!

This restaurant is lovely! Its small and cosy and it has that authentic Caribbean feeling. Its perfect for a date, The food is well served and cooked, but if you happen to be there during the busy times you might want to book as you may have to wait for a table. Service is friendly, a bit slow during busy times but I can live with that. Prices are reasonable, not to high and not to low. I recommend this place!

I’m so happy I came across this restaurant — me and my partner are now regulars! They serve possibly the best curry goat in London, perfect meat falling off the bone, not too spicy and full of flavour! You can’t beat that with some rice & peas and coleslaw! I’ve eaten in and ordered out It’s a nice atmosphere in there but it works out quite a bit cheaper if you give them a ring beforehand and then collect the food. The puddings are also worth a try! I had the tropical crumble which is a perfect end to a delicious meal. Only downside is that there are cheaper alternatives nearby, I think sometimes they are a bit pricey for their portion sizes. But if its curry goat you’re after You will NOT find better!

A friend recommended this tasty Jamaican restaurant to us and it was a really good tip. Just like in Jamaica. Original Caribbean cuisine. Irie!

Solid food, and loads of it, for a tenner. You won’t go away hongry. Lots of people on here have made complaints about the jerk chicken. I can’t speak to that, but the festivals were done right, the oxtail and the curried goat were fabulous– heavily seasoned, but not too spicy– and the beer was… well, it was beer. Alles gut in this place I’ve been eyeing for 10(!!) years.

Now I have to say that I’m becoming a bit of a self confessed Jamaican food critic. With this being the second stop off in Brixton for my favourite Jerk chicken dishes I have to admit I was a little disappointed with the results. Now I’m not knocking the authenticity, or the fabulous service but I will say that I have had better plantin and jerk sauce. It was a little bit too spice and stole some of the other flavours that can come through. One thing that Bamboula can do well is Rum Punch. It will have you slippin’ and slidin’ off your chair before your meal is up! This little family run joint is cute, and serves tasty food on brightly coloured tables with a great selection on the menu, I just wasn’t quite sold on it.

I was craving some Caribbean/Jamaican and did some google magic and found this place, as I wanted to go to an area that was a hot-spot for culture and not just something geared for a stray Picadilly tourist. Bamboula aims to please. It’s a ton of food for the price, you won’t leave hungry, it just simply isn’t possible, if you do, you might have a tape worm. The place is small but they’re big on flavors, a fellow Unilocaler and I had some good comfort food(mmm baked mac & cheese) and soups & mains and the waitress kind of looked at us like we were crazy for ordering that much food(clearly we didn’t know the portion sizes). I don’t see myself in Brixton anytime soon, but if I’m down, I will make a special trip back.

I’ve been here a few times and the food is consistently good. Well prepared jerk chicken and good oxtail(although mostly small pieces for some reason!) and yummy rice and beans. They’ve been very accommodating about late orders by letting us get takeaway. Only critique is that it’s a bit pricey compared to other places.

Was given the name of this restaurant as a recommendation for good Jamaican food in Brixton and it certainly didn’t dissapoint. It was pretty busy for a Monday lunchtime with a mixture of both locals and a couple of table of tourists. They do all the Jamaican standards and it was always going to be jerk chicken accompanied with rice and peas for me. The chicken had a nice warm spice to it and was so tender it must have been cooking for hours. It was so good I wish I’d bought another to bring home!

I was over in London, during our American Thanksgiving. I decided I wanted some Jamaican in good old Brixton. Very small inside, with a very delightful staff. They were definitely Jamaican too. I had the ackee & saltfish, rice and peas, and plantains. The rest of the Family had brown stew chicken, and more ackee. Everything here tasted authentic, and was really nice in portions. The inside was a little tight in space. It also has the West Indian feel to it. Lots of bright colors! I’d come back here anytime!
