This little corner of Goulston Street where it meets Wentworth Street, about 50 metres or so from Petticoat Lane is semi-pedestrianised and about four vans cooking Indian, Thai, Chinese and occasionally French food are there every day from around 9am until around 6pm serving the people that work in and come to the market. One of these is 786 Tikka Express, they actually sell a sound tarka dahl, you know, pleasant but not soul auctioning, which I had today with a chicken curry and pilau rice for the princely sum of £4 for lunch. There are a bunch of veggie options if you are not a meatatarian and its all not bad. I have paid three times more and had curry a third as good. Not spectacular, but flavoursome, filling and more than you would expect with change from a fiver. There is a table beside this van and a few of the others and it doesn’t really matter which one you sit at. The guys at 786 Tikka Express are very friendly, if you are eating«in», which is really out, they will always tell you to come back for more rice or sauce or dahl if you want some. It really was just the cheap-ticket today as it was very cold this lunchtime walk and the curry was very warming. I keep meaning to try the other food vans here on my lunchtime strolls, but always seem to come here if I walk past, if if you are walking past, you should probably try this place too!
