Not too bad for cheap drinks if you are a tourist, but did due to the size and lack of cleaning skills the place is not great for asthmatics like me or claustrophobic people. Since I am born, raised, live and work in Liverpool, this bar is not one I would class as a local as the ship and mitre offer better.

You are in the belly of the beast where it all began — in the heart of Matthew Street & if not the original Cavern Club, or even the rebuilt one, the Cavern Pub is an enjoyable place to soak in the atmosphere, have something to eat & listen to some music. I had lunch, which was fairly simple — a readymade sandwich that was in a cooler, heated & a soft drink & wound up returning my own plate, because English customs confuse me, but you really aren’t going for the food. Fortify yourself & then enjoy the sights & more to the point, the sounds of Matthew Street.

This place is just opposite to the Cavern Pub. You can see a statue of John Lennon in the corner of the Celebrity Wall~ You should take a picture here!

We arrived in front of the pub and the security asked us: «Do you like rock music?» And then told us: «Then go down there, this band is amazing you’re gonna love it!» Rock’n Roll! Put on your leather jacket, grab a beer and come in! It is an amazing pub with only the best bands in Liverpool playing live! The set up and the music summon back a past where rock’n roll was the music everyone listened to. And it makes the people from that generation dance and party hard all week long. I was truly astonished by the atmosphere and the band giving everything to the public. Don’t miss it, its fame is well deserved.

We went across the way to the Cavern Pub after the Cavern Club got a little too packed. The Cavern Pub is the sister venue to the legendary Cavern Club and showcases smaller, lesser known bands. The night we went we saw a band whose lead guitarist had only one hand. They were surprisingly good. The drinks were just as cheap and it was less crowded in this smaller venue. No cover was charged although I did get a double take from the bouncer as he checked my ID. The legal drinking age in the UK is 18, and I’m well over that I assure you, but he actually did a double take and exclaimed, «No Way!» «Way!», I replied and walked myself inside out of the cold. Definitely a great place to watch live music up close and get your drink on. It was walking distance to Liverpool One and our hotel so we didn’t even have to cab it home. If the Cavern Club across the way is full, check out the sister venue which has a more mellow vibe.

Cavern Pub is a sneaky little bugger riding the coattails of the Cavern Club across the street. I’m sure many tourists get confused and go into the Pub rather than the Club so good for them. It’s littered with quite a bit of memorabilia from various rock artists plus of course The Beatles. Although not the Cavern Club, it’s not a bad place to stop off for a drink. Live music on the weekends!

This is a cool place to grab a drink on Mathew street. I unfortunately came where there were no bands playing, but it was happy hour and the beers were half off. The memorabilia is really cool to look at when sipping away the Guinness in your glass. The venue looks small for a live band, but i cant comment because i never heard one there, but would have loved to try.

I’ve had the pleasure of drinking in there on numerous occasions. If you like a beer and want a day out in Liverpool, this is definately one pub YOUMUSTVISIT!!! Just to go in the pub and see the memorabilia from the Beatles was breathtaking!

The Cavern Pub is a popular place to grab a drink and listen to your favourite music. In the pub, you wil find rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia from famous names that have played at its famous neighbour, the Cavern Club. The pub’s exterior wall has the names of all the artists who have played at the Cavern since it opened in 1957 displayed on the bricks. The pub is open daily and has live music every evening. If you are a big Beatles fan, you must come to visit here during nights of course. If you’re not such a fan but have a curious interest, be sure you have a photo taken outside its doors!

Gripping to some decency in an area where most of the pubs and clubs are god-awful, the Cavern Pub is a steadfast bastion of good music that acts like an overflow for the Cavern Club a few doors away. Any thoughts that this is just the venue version of a drip-tray are unfounded though as bands manage to rock the jaundiced room more than the Merseyrail train thundering below. The walls are bedecked with a jumble of autographed knick-knacks from rock music’s illustrious past(and Bön Jovi), giving it the impression of being one man’s collection that his wife persuaded him to put on public display. This is one of the few pubs round Mathew Street I’d recommend to the tourists, provided they’re not claustrophobic.

This place is a pretty good pub and is a must for any music fans who like seeing live music. Almost any time you stop in here you will catch local talent or tribute acts and all will be of a good standard. I stopped in on a recent Sunday afternoon and they had a full line up of solo artists and groups from across the UK — and Netherlands? — playing from 12 til 12 for free which you can’t really beat for live music. And it’s not always Beatles covers either — although tribute acts in this part of the world tend by nature to focus most things 60s and early 70s. It’s been a while since I have been in on a Thursday night but in recent years they have done good open mic nights for a discerning crowd and the place has been known to host to some of the city’s special moments in rock music — Bo Didley played here several times in the years just before his death so it’s a place to keep on your radar.

Quite a good pub, usually populated by a mix of locals and tourists on the Beatles trail. Decent variety of bottled and draft beers etc and pleasant bar staff. I highly recommend visiting on a Saturday as local legend and true guitar hero Paul Kapa and his band play here on a regular basis. Be warned tho arrive at least half an hour before his set starts, usually around 5pm, as it gets rather busy.

Directly opposite the legendary Cavern Club, the Cavern Pub serves as a second, smaller venue that showcases local and unsigned bands. The staff are friendly and there’s plenty of seats to sit and watch acts or just enjoy a pint. Unfortunately, the floor to ceiling rock and roll memorabilia makes the whole place feel quite dated and aimed specifically at tourists. Beatles fanatics will no doubt be thrilled by the statue of Lennon outside and the display cabinets of instruments — including Lennon’s Rickenbacker and Macca’s Hofner bass — inside. Only the most obsessive rock and roll historian however, would be excited by twenty and thirty year old signed photos of everyone from Bön Jovi to Bryan Adams. The rumble of Merseyrail trains passing underneath the pub also loses it’s charm after a couple of times!

Named for the famous Club it’s often mistaken for by tourists, the Cavern Pub is a great little place to grab a drink and listen to some of your favorite music. Outside is a life size statue of John Lennon leaning against a wall, but don’t worry– he’s inside, too. The walls of the pub are adorned with memorabilia of all the musicians associated with its namesake(including a guitar signed by Paul McCartney). Whether you’re there for a drink, the tourist factor, or the music, take some time to walk around and view the decorations that put some Hard Rock Café’s to shame. Every time I’ve been to the Pub, there have been small bands or solo artists performing covers of everything from the Beatles to Oasis to Queen, making for a cheesy, nostalgic night. Far younger and less popular than its counterpart, I’ve always enjoyed sitting back at the Cavern Pub with a drink listening to «classic» music while the Merseyrail underneath gives the entire pub a massage.
