My local boozer The Alt is a good honest pub, cheap beer, cheap pub food, good atmosphere. In the summer it is a great place, a huge beer garden, and large sun deck, both with plenty of seating. There is also a large open area to chill on the grass or children to burn off energy. Great place to chill with friends or start a more adventurous evening. I hear on the grapevine that they no longer show football… this could be a major problem, I am sure it won’t last long if true. If you visit frequently faces will become very familiar

From the outside, the Alt Park Hotel isn’t a particularly aesthetically pleasing pub. Its signage is basic and quite dull, and the pub itself and the surrounding steps and railings could do with a good paint job. Basically, it looks like its seen better days. When you go inside, it has the feel of a real ‘old man’s pub’. This could be partly due to all the old men propping up the bar, who knows. Now this ‘old man’ feel would probably put off most people but I generally quite like old man pubs. Maybe it’s something to do with me wanting to be an old man at heart, or hating all you youngsters out there and liking to complain. Anyway, Alt Park is a place where you can enjoy a quiet pint at fairly decent prices and moan about how Mars Bars used to be 30p and Snickers used to be called Marathon and how things will never be the same again. If you’re looking for a lively, buzzing pub full of young people then I’d avoid it but if, like me, you like a quiet pub full of some interesting characters, then maybe give it a try.
