What a great find! Yummy food and drinks, I had quiche, my boyfriend had the fritata. Fresh lemon and ginger juice was amazing, chai latte went down nicely too. Lovely atmosphere, much larger than expected interior and fresh light décor. No cosy coffee corners that we saw but still would come back with friends for a coffee. Cake selection looked great too!

Lalas is a pretty café just down the road from me. It’s a safe option for a decent breakfast or lunch. They do really nice salads and their homemade lemonade is lovely and refreshing. The service is sometimes somewhat lacking. I went last Sunday with a hangover and it all felt a bit much, I pretty much had to make my own tea(they just give you a mug with hot water & tea bag, then you help yourself to the jug of milk and find own cutlery & sugar etc) and then carry the tray of drinks upstairs trying not to drop it. Maybe if I wasn’t hungover it wouldn’t have seemed such an ordeal… Breakfast was good although next time I will say at the time of ordering that I want my beans to actual be hot not just slightly warm as had to ask twice for then to be heated up. Food is all good quality though and it’s a nice environment so I do go back now and then. They can be a bit tight on things like the lemonade — £2 for a small glass with ice. And the Halloumi salad doesn’t have much Halloumi — I would prob eat there a lot more if it wasn’t for these couple of niggles. Also some staff friendly and some just seem like they really don’t want to be there, could make a bit more effort with smiling and general niceness. Just saying. The salads are really delicious though with a great selection which keeps me always coming back!

At first glance, Lala’s may look like just another café serving up your average sandwich and jacket potato themed fare. But step inside and feast your eyes at the daily specials scrawled on a black board wall behind the counter, and you’ll soon realise that Lala’s Café is really something special. Minute steak with Café de Paris butter, sardines and fried squid all made an appearance this weekend… Reasonably priced and serving food throughout the day, Lala’s is a great choice for those looking for a quick coffee, leisurely meal with friends or even a full blown party(although I haven’t seen it for myself I hear there is a roof terrace upstairs, plus ample seating on the street for sunnier days). Having made three visits in three weekends, I can highly recommend the sandwiches, salad plates and pancakes. All freshly prepared, the servings are exceedingly generous — I’ve never left hungry!

BETTERTHAN A STANDARDCAFE. I’ve been here a few times with friends to study(and get lunch/drinks). It’s quite nice. You can sit inside, outside on the street or upstairs on the rooftop terrace. Staff are usually very friendly. This place has a gluten-free cake on offer and a good menu with choice for vegetarians for a change. The iced coffee is amazing as is the home-made veggie burger. They also have good breakfasts that are served until 12. Yum.
