Cosy and excellent food but more restaurant than pub these days. Fantastic selection of real ales that are changed regularly and one of the strongest chilli vodka I’ve ever tasted. Courtyard is really great for an after work drink if you’re in the town centre.

I go around so many towns around the edge of London that are beer deserts. Here just a few yards from the railway station I find a pub serving a good range of real ales though unfortunately just national beers. Inside though its really oldy worldy, lots of wood and open fires. Didn’t try the food but it looked good and the service seemed good too.

Lovely pub right in the center of town and has retained so much of its original charm and history. I tend to find a lot of pubs like this eventually get taken over by loud, noisy chavs when they’re this central but the Black Jug seems to have a good policy excluding people like that. We had a really nice evening meal there recently. The staff couldn’t do enough to help and the food was really well prepared. I had the fish cakes and they tasted really fresh indeed. They have an excellent New Zealand Sauvingon Blanc here which is a little pricey but worth every penny! There’s more reasonable house wines available too and I’m sure they are just as good.
