Handiest supermarket ever! I pass here daily, and often stop in to grab milk/whatever I’ve forgotten at other shops etc. It’s not a big store at all, but it’s great for ready meals and snacks, and also has fresh fruit /veg and a housey bit. The self serve machines have been pretty temperamental lately, but the staff are always friendly when sorting them out. Oh, it’s a REALLY busy shop — especially in the evenings.

This branch holds limited stock, not so much ingredients as snacks and ready meals-which is convenient up to a point. If cooking from scratch it’s worth the walk to St Enoch Square to visit the larger and more well stocked branch.

One of the many supermarkets in shouting distance from my University, I go here often enough when there are good promotions on. Otherwise, I do well between the Co-Op on George Street with my discount card and the newly opened Sainsburys across the road with self service checkouts and a good bakery and produce section. This Tesco offers a modest range of products, and is particularly good for snacks and supplies rather than a basket full of dinner supplies. That being said, there are some ready meals and such in here. It’s a fairly welcoming store, well light with room to move around and in a good area.

This Tesco store is situated in quite a surprising location– right bang in the middle of the Merchant City, making it über convenient if you live in the area or if you’re out for the night but need some chewing gum for the ride. It’s by no means a place to do your weekly shop(unless all you’re after is a couple of ready meals and you’re happy to pay the price) but it makes an excellent to change to usual convenience stores when you need to stock up on essentials.

Tesco is undoubtedy my favourite of the Supermarket chains. Their stores, especially the massive ones, are a promised land of reasonably priced groceries and consumer goods, and there is simply a nice feel to them, fitting between the slightly cheap ambience of the Co-op and Asda, and the snootiness and lack of choice at Sainsbury’s or Waitrose. However, this particular branch isn’t among my favouirites, and it’s simply down to the lack of choice. What I love about Tesco is the way in which you can go in for a pack of chewing gum and come out with a trolleyful of stuff you don’t need, but in a smaller store like this, it just isn’t possible. I understand that it’s not meant to be, that this is a convenience store, but it just doesn’t have that Tesco magic.

This has to win the award for ‘most handily placed supermarket’, seriously! Ok, the stock is limited — you can choose from either Tesco Value, *Major Brand Name*, or Tesco Finest — but it’s an ‘express’, i.e. convenience is key — you’re not meant to have to choose from a gazillion brands of washing up liquids, or toilet paper. Fresh produce, large selection of wines, beers, and spirits, and it even manages to squeeze in 2 ‘self service checkouts’ which is entertainment in itself — it amazes me how students in the area, studying highly intelligent subjects, cant understand how to use one of these machines, «it’s in the bag! *BEEP* look it’s in the RUDDYBAG! STOP telling ME it’s NOT in the bag *BEEP* — it’s in the BAG! AHHH!». Ahh, the small pleasures in life.

Why Tesco have these stores is beyond me. They are cramped overpriced and badly stocked. At least the Tesco Metro on Argyle street was better stocked and bigger and what do they do? Shut it. fresh produce is scarce and usually out of date as for their booze selection? Overpriced wine and a small selection of spirits behind the cash desk. I would suggest going to J. T’s or the 1010n the High Street for your carry out or Peckhams on Glassford Street sell booze until midnight.
