Overall this place is decent, I am not a fan of their new menu however the possible good service from staff make it worth it. Yes that’s right the possible good service. I have been here many time before, 90% of the front of house staff are nice, friendly, and attentive to your needs. However sometimes in the kitchen it seems like there can be breakdowns where it takes longer than usual food to the table. The last time I was here as a party of 8 for a family meal, They managed to burn every ones buns for the burgers, and we haven’t been back since. But usually there service is decent which is why I know I will be back again in the future, but it’s no longer my number 1 choice.

I loved harvester … they had a simple easy to please menu that was suitable for my gluten free tummy and sometimes weight watching one! Tonight i dined with some friends and found they had a new menu and was annoyed to find they had changed some items. My staple was plain chicken and rice but the rice is now some weird rice with celery and black peas! Yuk … I eventually chose something but i dunno if i will be back as often as what i used to. The service is good and i love the free salad bar and refill drinks just not a fan of the new menu.

Popped in here after the bouncing at Ryze famished for something cold and or fatty lol. We were greeted and given a menu to peruse before sitting down then showed to our table. We were told our waitress looking after us was Lorna which was a nice wee touch having a specific waitress for your table/area. Took our drink orders and then came back when we were ready to order, explained to us about their new menu and how it worked and such. We were not far from dinner so thought some starters and ice cream would go down a treat! We ordered the pepper crumb fried chicken strips with bbq and a portion of spicy crackerjack prawns with a carribean peri-peri dip. these took a while to arrive and just as i left to amuse myself with the claw machine they turned up. They were quite tasty in themselves and a perfect line up just before our main event of the sundaes. We chose the rocky horror which is a warm fudge medley and the honeycomb explosion with cream toffee and belgian chocolate sauce with loads and loads of honeycomb. These took forever to arrive and, like before, when i vacated my seat they arrived which was a talent in and of itself lol. The sundaes themselves were tasty but i chose poorly as there was way too much honeycomb in mine but thats a taste thing rather than a fault on the restaurants part. All in all a solid service but took quite a while for anything to arrive especially considering how small the things we were ordering was so a solid 3 with a re review in its future when we can have a main dish!

Walking along the riverside towards Cessnock, I suddenly was attacked by the munchies as we were strolling by Springfield Quay. Hadn’t really been in the Harvester before, but I fancied giving it a wee shot. We seated ourselves, as we didn’t really want to sit in the restaurant area, ordered drinks and had a wee peek at the menu. The prices seemed quite high for what really seemed to be half pub, half restaurant, but we didn’t really fancy a full meal anyway. We went to the bar and ordered a bowl of chips and garlic bread dough balls from the side menu and the ‘Harvest Feastival’ sharing platter, which included BBQ chicken wings, breaded mushrooms, crackerjack prawns, grilled corn on the cob, and onion rings, served with sour cream & chive dip. Plenty for the two of us, and not overly expensive when compared with other things on the menu. The service was a wee bit slow, but we were chilling out with some drinks so it wasn’t too conspicuous. The drinks were a wee bit on the expensive side, though. The food was tasty, a good mix and a nice wee change from the norm. The sharing platter was designed with two people in mind, so it wasn’t over the top, but definitely an ample portion for two people Next time I get the munchies at the Quay, I may very well find myself back here. I’ll maybe try the proper restaurant side of the building. For what we tried, I give a good, solid three stars.

Living by myself, I rarely get those special Sunday roasts, stew and all that other homely stoge anymore. I’m talkin’ mashed potato, veg, gravy, sausages! You know what I mean? Mm-mmm! I came here a little fragile from the night before. Too much partying deserves a tasty treat, but! It was all a little disappointing. We walked in, waited at the door and couldn’t find any staff. Eventually we just took our own seat and helped ourselves to a menu by the till. I actually had to get up and hunt for somebody who could take our order but there was nobody in sight. Where were the hiding? In the cupboards? After waiting for god knows long, we were eventually approached by a waitress who marched up to the table, clip board in hand and announced, without a simple«hello!», a list of ingredients that weren’t available. I’m not talking just one or two things, the three different courses that we individually picked were not available. I received a prawn salad with old, browning lettuce. It didn’t come with a spoon either so I had to go hunting again for a member of staff and eventually lifted one from a pile I found at the bar. When my girlfriend ordered her main, the waitress(and by know means is this an exaggeration) shouted at my girlfriend for ordering something that was on the long list if unavailable dishes. My girlfriend told her that she didn’t hear the waitress and her reply was, «well, what is the point of me telling you what is unavailable?» My girlfriend got quite upset over this and a friend suggested that we should leave but the weather was extremely bad on that particular day and we decided to stick with it. As far as the food was concerned, both my chips and peas were cold, my friends chicken wasn’t cooked properly and we got a side dish of garlic bread which was clearly and badly burned. Oh, and did I mention that none of us were given cutlery, napkins and were sitting for a good 5−10mins eating with our hands? I think that in future, I’ll stay in the house.
