Sweet little joint that had quite the introduction(for me) about a Scottish breakfast: The Glasgow Fry. Interesting, but I couldn’t eat all of it as it was HEAVY. Nice service and like most pubs and restaurants we walked into, it piped in classic rock from the 20th Century.(Queen, Bowie, Doors, etc.)

Have eaten here multiple times, and really like their set up. A handwritten menu that changes daily, good quality produce and friendly helpful staff. Have had several special occasion meals here, and brought overseas guests, all of whom enjoyed it immensely. It’s been a wee while since my last visit, so I need to pop back and see what they’re up yo these days!

Thursday lunchtime and there were only half a dozen people in here — what’s going on? Perhaps the large ‘CLOSED’ sign on the door had something to do with it? Deciding to go in regardless, I was treated very attentively and quickly ordered a smoked salmon, cucumber and alio sandwich. The chap tutted resignedly and promptly turned the sign around when I pointed it out to him, from which I gathered it wasn’t his fault. We had a bit of a chuckle over it anyway. The sandwich was very nice I must say — good decent thick slices of salmon married between delicate slices of cucumber and alio sauce on some scrummy wholemeal bread, with some new potatoes smothered in alio and a handful of rocket on the side. I like the clean décor of this place, it has a nice fresh feel to it. The prices are reasonable, and the main menu looks extensive enough for me to think about returning for an evening meal at some point.

One of the best steaks I’ve had in Glasgow, and excellent cut and cooked perfectly. My girlfriend had a steak also and loved it as did our friend who had the vegetarian option. The drinks were also good and the service great. The owner and his staff made us feel welcome and treated us to a really good time.

Great value for lunch last Sunday with two well sized courses & glass of wine for £12. The Argyll game casserole contained meat cooked to perfection and the Sunday roast was declared almost too large a portion. Pleasant service throughout and overall an agreeable atmosphere in the reataurant. Make the effort to head further out of the city centre than you ordinarily might and give this place a go.

We all had wine of choice and yes the wee yin got the correct mix of wine soda ice ratio that she likes, I had red, big cuz had white all very palitable . Now for food I had Crispy Pork& Blackpudding Salad Hmmmm delicious, the wee yin had Feta salad & the big yin had soup Cauliflower & Celery which she says was better than she makes herself. For mains I had Salmon it was a well cut fillet and was served with watercress & the most delicious crushed baby potatoes smothered in butter, the two Cuz’s had Roast Beef with Yorkshire pudding, they asked for extra gravy to soak into pudding and the waiter brought it very promptly with a very smiley face. All in all a very nice meal for a great price and the staff could not have been nicer, friendly without being intrusive, I had wanted to try this restaurant for a while and I am so glad I did, will definitely be back

I want to love this place, I really do. My friends and family tell me I should but something is lacking here. It offers me Scottish cuisine with a twist — thumbs up. BYOB — thumbs up. But its as though the owner has put all thier time into working on the menu and has forgotten all about the ambience of the place. It just feels a bit lifeless… and it has blinds at the window. I HATE blinds, urgh. The food was ok — I ordered the halibut which, unfortunately, was overcooked for my liking but the others I was with very much enjoyed their meals. And it’s obviously a very popular place as people sware by it and it was packed when I was there(a little too packed — my elbows were resting on the strangers shoulders at the table next to me) but I’m not feeling it… … it does deserve another chance though and I will endeavour to give it one in the coming months.

Used to frequent this place when I lived in the west end. Great deals from 5pm. Crackin’ for a nice bit of stodge.

A large group of us enjoyed their Winter Warmers menu this January and what a menu it was… all starters £4, all mains £8… and I wanted every one — how is one expected to possibly decide? The cuisine was very much centred around British favourites and every dish looked great, if not the finest cuisine, still hearty, tasty and awesome value. My steak & ale pie with Colcannon potatoes(Irish mash) was perhaps the best pie I’ve had in Scotland and I was most disappointed that there was too much for me to finish after my mammoth seafood chowder starter. The place was quite crowded on this Friday night, but that didn’t matter being in a large group. I’ll reserve the last star until I’ve tried this place on another occasion with their regular menu…

Another sweet local find. Score! The boyfriend and I weren’t in the mood for cooking on a Friday night after a rough couple days at work, and my misadventure with trains in Central Scotland earlier in the day. And go figure, leave it to us to not book a table anywhere on a busy Friday night, so we had to chance it. Luckily while strolling along Dumbarton, we passed Roastit on our way to Partick station. We’ve always passed by, but never really had an inclination to actually go in. The horizontal blinds kind of hide what’s going on inside… so much that we had to peer in to see if we even stood a chance at getting a table at the last minute notice. We walked in, nearly all tables full… and loads and loads of estrogen. Apparently we didn’t get the memo that the women’s club of Partick(or something similar) were having a pow-wow in Roastits. The space is quite cramp, so we had to skillfully maneuver to get to our table the waitress set for us. The atmosphere was quite lively(probably due to the overwhelming amount of intoxicated older women… maybe, maybe?). The boyfriend and I decided to have a starter each, in addition to our mains. We started with potato and leek soup, and fish cakes. Both were very lovely. The soup was typical Scottish fare, but the fish cakes had surprisingly a good amount of fish rather than just oats and potato to stuff it, as we’ve experienced elsewhere. The burger and the lamb shank, which was on special, were also surprisingly lovely… our plates were pretty clean at the end of the meal. Finally, we decided to be greedy and order dessert. The apple and pear crumble and golden syrup tart were quite nice, but nothing extraordinary. Once the hoards of women trickled out of the restaurant(with the shouting of «tequila!!») I was surprised to actually hear there was music being played. Bottom line: good food, reasonable price, service can be a bit slow when it’s super busy(obviously), and a convenient local option which we’ve successfully chanced at not booking a table.

Having had a wee nosey at the other reviews for this place i was a bit surprised to see that they weren’t to enthusiastic, as my experiences here have been good on the main. It was only as i started to write did i realise the reason for the differing experiences. On both of my visits here i have been part of a large crowd, say 10 to 15 folk each time. This would explain why i had no recollection of the previously derided seating arrangements as they had moved the tables around to accommodate our parties on both occasions. Would have to say that in terms of nosh, this place ticked all the boxes for me, but left some in the group a little disappointed(i had rump steak on stornoway black pudding in red wine sauce… good god, some women say they like chocolate better than sex… steak is the male equivalent.) Anyway, from my visits i would have to give the thumbs up, great service, kid friendly(if no changing table), good grub and an intimate feel… but i can see where others may be coming from.

Ok, the squashed-up tables in here really begin to get annoying. The girl next to me practically had her elbows on my table by the end of the meal. Anyway, I had shin of beef with dauphinoise poratoes, which was lovely. The Dauphinouise was especially good, although it is my favourite way for potatoes to be done. The food was all actually really good, except my dessert: a wobbly cheesecake. Cheesecake should be stodgy and crumbly in my book, and wobbly certainly isn’t right. A meal of two halves.

This up and coming restaurant looks somewhat misplaced on the slightly quieter side of Dumbarton Road. The tables are squashed together, resulting in a distinct lack of privacy. I was also very, very underwhelmed by the meal I had in here. However, bringing your own booze is encouraged.
