I’d heard a little bit about this new Shawlands café but decided to pop in to investigate for myself. All I knew what that they are doing some vegan & gluten free options, I wasn’t really sure what kind of food it is. It’s a nice café but very small — perhaps 6 – 10 seats all up inside. It’s run by Maria(obviously), the food is mostly Italian, and she was there on her own today so service was a little slow, but I’m not going to knock off a star for that seeing as she is a one-lady operation just now! I overheard her say that her lasagne is her specialty so I ordered that for lunch. It was a perfect sized portion, no sides but just delicious, Bologna-style lasagne. Yum! I loved it and would definitely get this again. There’s a fridge where you can buy containers of ready-made-meals to take home, I think they are all £5 which is a good price for a dinner portion. There was polenta as well as a savoy cabbage pie. The dishes change regularly though so just go in and give something a try. There is also a selection of piadas for around £3-£4 which are made with organic flour and sound delicious. This place hasn’t been open long, and she said as it gets busier she is going to start using the bain marie which will mean you can help yourself to the selection of foods she makes every day which seems like a good idea. I’m definitely going to stop off here to get some food to takeaway next time as it’s a good way of having something tasty for dinner without getting the guilts.
