MAC Cosmetics

I recently had one of the makeup lessons as part of my birthday and i was so impressed!
A full hour costs £50 and is redeemable against products in store and is the full lesson where the artist does one side of the face and you do the other.
The £30 session lasts 30 mins and is more just tips.
I had the £50 session and the girl who was working with me was amazing. She put me totally at ease and didnt make me feel silly for getting to my 30’s and not really knowing how to apply makeup properly.
I was talked through each step of the way and consulted on what colours/​products i would like to try. When applying the makeup she encouraged me to try adding a bit more when needed but totally listened when i said i didnt want to look really overdone.
There was no hard sell either. Obviously i had to spend the £50 but she didnt make me try and spend more and they give you a wee chart with all the products used so you can re-​create the look at home and also purchase items at a later date.
Thanks to this class i have really gotten over my fear of mac stores and applying makeup. I really enjoyed my afternoon and it was a great experience.
The only reason this is not a 5 star review is that the artists are constantly told to «break away» to work on tills to reduce queues. I get its busy but we are paying for a service and it would be nice to have the artists full attention.
Sort this mac and it would be a full 5 stars!

This MAC is easily the busiest one I’ve ever visited. No matter when you go, plan to spend a lot of time here if you don’t know exactly what you want.
There are a lot of people working at this store, but they still don’t seem to have time to spend with you, looking for the correct product. This is really unfortunate, but no fault of theirs.
I’ve shopped MAC for many years, but last time I went to get something it was going to be a half an hour wait to get help with a colour, so I just went to a different makeup counter and purchased a different product.
Another unfortunate thing is the prices. MAC is a Canadian company and the prices in the UK are much more expensive than in Canada. A powder foundation compact is $ 5 CAD more expensive here than in Canada.
I will try to remember to stock up next time I’m in Canada, or order online. Shopping at this store is just too frustrating of an experience! At no fault of the workers, I must say. Though the shop should try to expand or open another location nearby.

mac is fantastic no matter who’s selling it, i’ve been using it for about ten years now… christ.
easily the best makeup line around in terms of quality for price. plus, they have an amazing selection of vibrant colors… and you can’t beat their ultra gloopy lip gloss…
they make a liquid liner marker (rapidblack) that makes application pretty easy, especially for me who has a hard time/​makes a mess with liquid.
i will admit you can find better mascaras and bright red lipsticks on the market… unless we’re talking the limited edition ‘liza red’ that came out years ago.
also, they are pricey– but their brushes are worth it– so is the brush cleaner.
oh, and they probably make the best eyelash curlers ‘ive ever used.
ta da. mega mac love.
(but to make this a little more specific to glasgow, the mac counter is always packed– making it a pain to browse for new fun… and some of the workers are a little intense/​border line scary)

Loving MAC’s work here, and how the stylish make up boutique draws me in every single time I walk past.
What I like most about MAC is the service. Walk through House of Fraser from the entrance further up and you will be accosted by Benefit, Lancome and Prescriptive counter assistants who can’t seem to take a polite smile and head shake as an answer. But down here at MAC, they seem to realise the products sell themselves, and just make sure you know they are available for help, and wait until you ask them.
The assistants are very knowledgeable and seem to be trained in make up artistry to a degree, which is great to know. I love having different make up tried on me, so it’s brilliant to go in and be fussed over!
MAC excel in quality of foundations (I use a MAC Mineralize compact containing SPF) and make up brushes, as has been mentioned in previous reviews. Pricey, but well worth it.

I adore MAC and always use their foundation as it gives the best coverage out of any foundations I’ve ever tried and it’s not drying either. At £18 it’s actually really reasonable with some top make-​up brands charging a ridiculous £25+ for foundation and it lasts for ages too.
I’m not an eyeshadow person but they have a huge range of eyeshadows in gorgeous colours, great for wearing on their own or layering too. Their lipsticks and glosses are also stunning and I have a few really fabulous MAC brushes.
MAC is always really busy so unless you go it when it unusually quiet, or ask for advice yourself then you won’t be grabbed by the staff here and talked into buying something you don’t need.
Around winter season MAC always bring out gift sets for Christmas presents, usually brush sets, eyeliner sets and lipgloss sets too. These are usually smaller than the full size products but still just as good quality and you make an amazing saving too.
They’re all about recycling at MAC so if you return 6 bottles of full sized products to get re-​used then you get to choose a free product so make sure you keep those empty bottles.
All in all, MAC make-​up is certainly about making a statement so if you’re looking for a new head turning look then head here and ask for some make-​up tips and products for a fabulous new you.

Ahh MAC, you slay me (and my wallet)!
I don’t even know where to begin! The best thing MAC, for me, is their brushes. Lot of people don’t realise how valuable good brushes are, and although they’re expensive, they really do make a difference. Also, MAC’s last. You can also purchase a solution with which to clean them, which will give them an even longer life.
If that wasn’t enough, all of their make-​up products are vegan. No animal products, and certainly no animal testing here! They also have an amazing recycling program, wherein if you return 6 empty lipsticks, eyeshadow casings, eyeliners, etc. they will give you a free gift (usually a lipstick, check their site for specific information on this!)
If that wasn’t enough, the staff are really great. MAC is big on education, so they will be full of wonderful information on what colours complement your skin tone, will bring out your eye-​colour, and which formulations will match your skin best.
Their foundations are on the heavy side, but you can’t beat the pigmentation of their eyeshadows. The HOLY GRAIL of eyeliners exists here, too: it’s called fluidline. You apply it with a brush and my goodness! I’ve owned mine for 2 years and am barely half-​way done with it. Ah-​may-​zing.

MAC make-​up is a very good make-​up brand indeed!
From the lipsticks, to the eyeshadows (how many of them are there by the way… hundreds!?) and foundations (I agree with Liz — they can be very heavy and oily on the old skin), there’s loads of products you should try.
I use a MAC blusher (and brush) daily and I can’t complain — the girl in the shop helped me pick it, and I’ve never looked back. It’s brilliant!
There’s always a sales assistant keen to let you try the makeup, or advise you on what would ‘compliment your skin tones’ etc. Don’t be scared though, I actually trust these girls compared to some of the other, rather orange, ladies near by.

Although a global brand, this is the only M.A.C. shop in Glasgow (possibly Scotland?).
it is a wonderland of make-​up, famed for its pigment-​rich eyeshadows especially. Each girl working there obviously has a passion for make-​up as is shown in each of their personal styles. I find that I sometimes get ignored in here, though, perhaps not as groomed, or rich-​looking as some of the other customers.
M.A.C. brushes are also renowned, and I’m slowly building up a little collection of my own. I have found them to last well if you take good care of them.
Their foundations are a bit heavy though, and really not good if, like me, you suffer from spot-​prone skin. It just exacerbates it, in my experience.
Go for the eyeshadows though!

Really rubbish customer service — I was so gutted because I’ve been a fan of MAC Cosmetics for a long time but that experience has now ruined it for me. I booked a consultation months in advance — only to be kept waiting for about 15 minutes on the day, until the sales consultants deigned us with their presence. When I asked why I was kept waiting so long, the sales consultant seemed to think I’d gone mad and kept asking if I was worried because I was running late for my train — as if it was my fault! She was hopeless when actually recommending cosmetics too — was totally clueless about what colours actually suit darker skin — again I was gutted as MAC is meant to be brilliant for this. She recommended a foundation that was several shades too light as it would ‘warm up on your skin.’ (???) I definitely will NOT be going back there again.
