Great haircuts. They really take their time and know their stuff.

House Martin is a very special place to me. I first met Stephen Martin at the Glasgow Coffee Festival where he trimmed my rather unruly(long) hair whilst chatting about his grand plans for this underground ex-bank converted into a gentleman’s barber complete with good coffee, a fireplace and occasional venue for a cheeky drink(out of hours and between friends of course). I was so inspired by this goal — especially that of having good coffee(and the time they were investing into getting training from Dear Green) that I popped in one day to have a chat shortly after they’d opened and let him cut off all the hair I’d had since I was a teenager. I’ve since been back, the shop is now more«complete» and is decked out in quite some style; it has to be seen to be believed but it feels more like a nice bar than somewhere you might get your hair cut. The staff are not only experts at what they do, but take their time to talk to you before doing anything, and will offer tons of advice on how to look after your hair/beard/etc when you’re between visits. As an ex scruffy hairy monster this has been invaluable these past few months as I learn how to be an adult and keep my appearance in a loosely professional state. What I really like is that they weren’t kidding about the coffee; outside the usual suspects for speciality coffee in Glasgow(basically Avenue. Pena and Lab) they probably do the best espresso(it helps that they have the time between customers to focus on this, but doesn’t help that their gear cools down between customers!). I think it shows that what matters is how much you *care* about what you’re serving, if half the coffee shops in Glasgow cared this much about their produce I wouldn’t complain quite so much all the time about coffee in this city. They apply that passion to their service, their haircare and the design — I look forward to seeing what this place becomes; me? This is where I go to get my hair and face sorted out now — I trust them implicitly. They’re now pretty much fully booked so phone or e-mail ahead, or just pop in for a coffee and a chat — they’re always friendly and willing to accommodate friendly visitors!
