The«most uneven haircut of the year» award goes to… drum roll… City Barbers, congratulations! It was so rubbish I had to get the old clippers out of the cupboard and even off the top when I got home. I’m pleased to say I thought I did a very good job, perhaps inadvertently discovering a talent I didn’t know I had. But for £11(yes eleven quid) for a very bog standard barbers I expected much, much more. Think I’ll stick with my £8 haircut from my Persian chums in Finnieston from now on. 1 star, sorry!

I am another reasonably satisfied customer for City Barbers, although I find all the football stuff a bit dull: being in the centre of town, it is constantly busy during the weekends, and I have aimed to get my hair done during the week when the waiting time is usually short. It isn’t very personal: the many barbers are work mean that I have never had the same stylist twice, and it is very much a cut and go– speed and accuracy, not banter are critical, but the price is fair for the location and the service efficient.

When I first moved into a flat in Glasgow city centre I had to find a good barbers to get my hair cut. The City Barbers was the first one I happened to stumble across and is the one that I usually still use. I guess I was really drawn to it by the awesome football magazine and newspaper cuttings decorating the front window. Inside it is quite a large place. Not only are the walls completely covered in football programmes, magazines and infamous newspaper cuttings, but there are a couple of large televisions constantly showing re-runs of full live famous football matches over the years. Heaven for a guy like me! The staff are pleasant and friendly, though I always try to talk as little as possible because I’m too concerned about them doing a good job on my hair! Unfortunately though because there are so many different barbers working(mostly women but a couple of men too), it means that they all cut differently(perceptions of how short ‘short’ is etc) and the style of haircut that may be familiar to one barber may not be familiar to another one. Although most of the time I’ve been pleased with my haircut, there has been the odd time I’ve had it cut by a barber that doesn’t usually do it and it ends up turning out too long or uneven. Even though it is very busy a lot of the time, you don’t usually have to wait any more than 10 minutes here, usually only about 5, thanks to the fact there is always between 8 and 10 different hairdressers on at once. Prices are also okay, with it costing me usually about a tenner now that my days of getting a student discount are over(sniff!). Oh well, at least you can still get a free sweetie!

Stu went here for his last haircut. It was just as good as cbuk, but actually half the price. I’ve always liked the look of this barbers, with retro boxing and football newspaper cuttings all over the place and retro barbershop décor. It’s a small shop, but because guys’ haircuts take so little time, I guess it can take a high throughput. The sports theme is continued with sport on the tvs, as well as music playing in the background. It’s a friendly little barbers too, so I would probably just go here if you needed a trim and tidy up.
