I’ve been here a few times for a lunch sandwich to go and even though it’s a bit of a further walk than other places on Byres Road, it’s really worth the extra walk. There’s a cracking range of sandwiches with some pretty exotic combinations, puts a ham roll to shame. Have to confess, I’ve been fairly boring(as boring as you can be here) with sandwich selection, but even the standard sandwich options here are brilliant. Special mention to the BLT, made with freshly cooked bacon, makes all the difference! I’ve never sat in, though the café area is quite on the small side, so maybe not ideal for larger groups. Another thing I’ve noticed is they do take away on Deliveroo, so it’s a great suggestion for an office lunch.

Been meaning to try this place for a while. The menu sounds amazing. Popped in for a takeout sandwich and got the Philly cheesesteak one, can’t remember what its name is. To be honest, I was underwhelmed. It has a taste of something I didn’t like in it which overpowered everything else. It was also pretty inadequately wrapped, as the sandwich was quite wet — it leaked through the paper wrap and all over my bag by time I got it back to work. Would go back to try something else though, as it’s a nice laid back vibe and friendly staff. They also allow dogs in so automatically a thumbs up from me!

Popped in with some friends on a Saturday lunchtime. I had one of the oddest dining experiences ever. Not in a nasty way as the food was good, I just do not understand how this place is run and how it can continue to be run like this. Firstly, there was no-one at the till to greet us, or take our order. I could have walked in, opened the till and just run off with a stash of cash(disclaimer, at no point did this actually cross my mind). There were only 2 members of staff(that I saw) constantly running up and down the stairs to the kitchen? battling like crazy to get sandwiches out the door. It was total bedlam, and all this while disco music was being pumped out the stereo :-D After drooling over the amazing sandwich menu for some time, we finally placed our order when a member of staff came rushing down the stairs again. The sandwiches took close to an hour to arrive and by this point, I had almost lost the will to live! But, oddly, I was finding the whole situation rather amusing. Fortunately the Polo Loco sandwich was really tasty, but not worth the massively long wait. The chicken was also rather gristly which was a bit of a shame. GWSco is a really tight space, therefore, its not somewhere you want to spend a huge amount of time. I would happily come back for a quick sandwich, but, after spending over an hour on those hard as hell benches, my sorry ass is telling me I should hold off visiting again for a wee while.

I love a good sandwich but heavens knows I can’t seem to make one myself. I pretty much go for the super lazy and boring fillings when I know I need to get more on there. Oh well, I have places like Great Western Sandwich Co to sort me out. I needed a sandwich. I wanted it fast. And I had £10. I was going down GWR so stopped off here as it’s one of the few places along here that I haven’t tried(pls forgive me, GWS Co). I had heard good things from Unilocalers though so I happily handed over my £10(and got £5 change, mind you) for a Polo Loco sandwich. The space here would be good for hanging out in, there is actually more seating than I expected so I might eat in next time(although I don’t think there are customer loos). The Polo Loco has: chicken marinated in cayenne, paprika and lime, sour cream, avocado, black beans and fried potatoes. Who puts potatoes on a sandwich? I didn’t notice that when I ordered, or when I ate half of it but I’ve started to accept that carb-on-carb action is pretty standard in Glasgow. The sandwich didn’t take long, I’m guessing around 3 – 4 minutes and was nicely presented for takeaway. It would cost £1 extra if I was going to eat in but I had places to be. I had the delicious smell of my sandwich taunting me the whole way home and I’m happy to say, after scoffing half of it that it really is delicious. The chicken is generous, the other toppings all work really well too and it’s a hearty beast that I haven’t been able to finish. Yet.

Super place, had a Jack Black Burrito(beef, potato, guacamole and more) for £5.50, and it was delicious. There are also«normal» sandwich options as well as breakfast options(available all day). If you sit in its a pound extra which is fair enough, there are few benches and a couple of seats at the window.

First visit today for a quick takeaway! The place is absolutely tiny but really quite cute… With some stairs running upstairs where the kitchen is. It was pretty quiet when we visited but to be fair it was one of the Hottest days we’ve had this year! I ordered a ‘Frankie Knuckles’ which was a huge roll with the most tasty, tender beef brisket, double bacon & cheese. It was humungous and I actually had a nap after it. The other half ordered the Pollo Loco which was a toasted wrap with chicken thighs, refried beans, spicy potatoes and avocado(if I remember correctly). I had a taste and it was spicy but moreish and freshened up by the avo. Really enjoyed and would definitely return, beats the chain sandwich shops by a mile!

This is the best breakfast in Glasgow! It’s a tiny hole in the wall but so so good. Didn’t stay for lunch but wish we had! The entire menu looked amazing.

I had been here a few times in its previous existence as café Pop(I remember a particularly messy delicious experience with a Frankie Knuckles), but this was my first trip since it changed its name. The décor has also been spruced up, with far more seating than previously, and some attractive minimalist photos and plants around the place. I couldn’t decide what to order from the huge menu, but the Carnitas, with pulled pork, refried beans, avocado, red onion and jalapeños was recommended. And my god it was good. The bread tastes fresh and delicious, and holds together really well, perfect for eating on the go(or while driving, as I was). The filling felt moist without being too wet and making the bread soggy. The ingredients all tasted really fresh and zingy. They also serve Dear Green coffee and I loved the shiny red coffee machine — gave the whole place a retro touch! Although it’s a sandwich shop, the speciality ones are more the size and complexity of burgers, without the price tag. Highly recommended — one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in Glasgow.

I always seem to struggle to find a good sandwich shop. I’m not a fan of chain sandwich shops where the food never tastes that fresh or it’s overly expensive for what it is. I saw a sign for this place in the West End, and my growling stomach led me to it. It’s a lot smaller than I imagined it to be however the tables are like benches so it actually sits quite a few people and it’s not awkward to sit beside someone you don’t know. There’s a good selection of food and the sandwiches and rolls are definitely worth the money. I had ‘The Works’ which was a full breakfast that once after eating, I thought I was going to have to be rolled out the shop. The waiter was quite a quirky guy which I liked and he was very friendly and quick to serve. The chef also came down and he too was very nice. I liked the feel of the place, we weren’t hassled all the time by waiters and it’s a place where you can get an actual lunch that doesn’t involve burgers or cardboard sandwiches.

I visited on a Sunday at lunchtime, my first visit since the change over from Café Pop. The menu features a variety of sandwiches with meat, fish and veggie options all catered for. I went for the Bilbao which is a meatball sandwich with mozzarella, garlic mushrooms and rocket. Served in a large crispy wholemeal roll the meatballs were generous, tasty and made with good quality meat(nothing like the horrors you get at Subway). The tomato sauce was equally good with lots of chunky carrot and onion added and the garlic mushrooms were a brilliant addition. Combined with the crispy rocket and slow melting mozzarella this was a very good sandwich and large enough to be worth the £5 price. A refreshing change from the sad flatironed paninis still offered in so many places. I ordered takeaway this time but there’s enough room to seat about fifteen people in here. The décor is a bit stark at the moment with plain white walls but there’s a huge window for watching the world go by and a good stack of newspapers too. I’d definitely go back and I’ve given them five stars as they’re totally succeeding in their aim by providing great sandwiches.
