Gray’s Kitchen is really about quality and simplicity. It’s a great place for a superb takeaway lunch or for weekend treats. The proprietors put great care into selecting their products, ensuring good provenance an interesting choice and. above all, great taste. My favourite example is the smoked salmon — it really is superior to any other I’ve tried, both in terms of texture and flavour. There are some great cheeses, too. Anster, Arran Cheddar with Ginger and Caboc have all been first class. Kimberley and Jessica(and the other staff) are friendly, knowledgeable and caring; always willing to suggest new ideas and combinations, and respond enthusiastically to suggestions I have made. I also love the hamper option — it’s a great gift to take to a dinner party or family visit. And the new range of wine is really impressive — I’ve already had a great South African Sauvignon as suggested by Kimberley and am looking forward to her next recommendation. We’re so lucky to have this in our neighbourhood… great food makes for a happy life!

A pretty little deli on Crow Road which is surprisingly well stocked with fresh breads, savouries and intriguing ingredients. Coffee is Dear Green Place and well made. Friendly family business.

A new deli in the west end… who would have thunk it? slightly smaller than the average, and right next to Oscar & Holly’s, although not direct competition as O&H is well to do mummy territory, with little emphasis on good quality coffee. This however is a revelation. Tapas bakery sourced coffee, and well made to boot. No bitterness, and as smooth as velvet. Plus an array of homemade goodies. I’ll be back to try the savories, which seem to be a good blend for veggies and carnivores. no, bugger it, I’ll be back for the coffee…
