Elite Event @ Good Spirit Co

Awesome tasting at the GSC last Tuesday: a journey through four different spirits guided by the expertise of Matt (one of the owners), good company and the chance to know what this place offers.
Of course, a wide selection of fine whiskeys and spirits for all tastes and pockets and the best part is that you don’t have to be a big connoisseur because these guys are willing to help you and put you in the right direction.
My favourite place in the shop: the tobacco booth… I think I spent like 10 minutes just staring at it, when we finally decided to buy a cigar and got in: pfffff! The smell is just absolutely delicious and relaxing (I could have stayed there the whole night hehe).

What another great wee elite event?! This was a place I’d heard of through the Good Spirits peeps popping their wee heads at previous Unilocal events.
The place smelled amazing as my partner in crime, Angela B, and I graced the entrance. Labelled with our Unilocal tags Trouble and Menace we knew it’d be a good wee night.
The place had walls filled floor to ceiling with booze of the world. They would certainly make some cracking gifts. Some of the bottles were like ornaments that you wouldn’t want to drink but have it sitting on your sideboard instead. Nah, who am I kidding, it’d probably get tanked.
They have a function/​tasting room at the back that can be used for parties, they’ve even had a hen party. They had the tasters set up here alongside a cracking spread of cheeeeeese and meaty goodness. Jings, I just couldn’t get enough of the parma ham and that tasty I.J. Mellis cheese.
As I was driving I didn’t taste the samples, got a good whiff from Angela B’s glass though and that was enough for me. Oooft! I made it up with plenty of food and a tasty sparkling strawberry drink they had sitting out. I can’t remember what it was but it was super delicious.
After buzzing the cigars Angela B. and I decided this was best time to go especially as we were craving the Pinto even after all the cheese and meat. Pure shocking!
Thanks to Chris D. for another interesting and informative night while opening up our eyes to another hidden treasure. Cheers!

This place is a revelation and my joy over the vodka section was pretty huge, and they have a great selection of spiced rum, my tipple of the minute.
The tasting was informative without being dull and pretentious, which these things can sometimes lean towards and I was super chuffed it wasnt all rich, put hairs on your chest, pull a bad face, strong whisky. The Cape Town offereing was pretty tasty, even for a whisky phobe such as I. The rum was pretty tasty too!
Will very much be going back to try some new vodkas and maybe get some champers when the need next takes me. Will probably leave the Absinth with the skull on the bottle well alone, I am finally learning!

We’re not just talking any old booze here. We’re talking booze from the Good Spirit Company.
Matt took us on a wee journey to some strange and wonderful locations through the medium of spirits.
First stop on our tour was the island of Islay. Ah yes, an island famous for producing the most smokey warm whiskies. Which whisky did we try? Why only the best gin… wait, what? Yep, the Bruichladdich distillery is now producing a gin, known as The Botanist. Fantastic first stop.
We also stopped off in South Africa for some whisky (stranger and stranger), the Caribbean for some blended rum, before finally landing back in the shop for some of their very own Cask 23, a constantly changing and evolving cask which never empties. I hereby avow that before I turn 50 (if I turn 50) I will have my own cask.

I got there early and left even earlier. So, I will keep this short.
I am so glad Chris organised an Elite event here. It has been in the cards for a while and I can see no better meeting taking place.
Unilocalers meet The Good Spirit Company — a stupendous business that will provide you with excellent alcohol in a variety of forms situated in the centre of Glasgow.
I am happy that Matt pushed the envelope for the alcohol served. South African Malts and Islay Gins, what a great way to surprise folks.
Considering that these are available for very reasonable prices, even better.
GSC is one of my regular stops when I am in town and the first place to pick up something for myself or others. Good to see others are finding this out as well.

I remembered these Good Spirits Co. guys from a previous (and actually my 1^st) Unilocal event at the Panopticon music hall a wee while ago. I remember them being lovely guys and really helpful and not a whiff of snobbery at all (something which certain other establishments seem to have a prerequisite for when hiring their staff), all in all top guys.
The first thing that hit me straight away upon entering the shop was the smell ~ it was pretty amazing! Actually reminded me of my Dad’s old music room/​bar he had when we were nippers, weird. Just a lovely mix of wood, spirits/​booze and tobacco. Then you notice ALL the lovely booze! So many beautiful and ornate bottles of drinks I had never heard of. These bottles would make excellent presents. They also sell fancy cigars which come housed in their own humidor ~ every time the door was opened the smell was super! Later on we asked to have another sniff and the guys were only more than happy to feed our olfactory desires.
Throughout the evening we tried 4 different spirits; a gin (very nice), rum (considering I’m not a big fan of rum I liked this one), bourbon (yum) and a ‘special’ whisky (my favourite). I was a tad worried, with it being a school night and me simply HAVING to drink all these different boozes, that I would get rather squiffy especially as I had an empty stomach BUT fear not people for CHEESE and MEAT are here! Yay! Thanks to the super I J Mellis we had a fine selection of cheeses and meats (also oatcakes too because we’re not total animals you know!) which all lined our wee bellies nicely. Yum-​yum.
Had a great night and I have recommended the Good Spirits Co. to many people now, even leaving a few flyers at my work. Great guys and great shop. Thanks again to thee mighty Chris D and all the Good Spirits Co. dudes.

A previously hidden gem, the Good Spirits Co. hosted this Elite event. This was a well blended mix of company, stock and extremely knowledgeable and personable staff making for a memorable event and a venue to which to return. Well done, again, Chris. Discover it and visit.
