We were out a few weeks ago with the Mr’s cousins for a night out, and somehow ended up using Drouthy’s as the meeting point. It was mega busy and absolutely not my kind of place. Not that there was anything particularly wrong with it — it’s just a fairly non-descript, bog standard, old fashioned kinda bar. Lots of dark wood and tacky ornamentals. Overall, it was an alright place to meet up(close to Queen St train station and central in the city centre), but not somewhere I’d want to hang out in for long. A 2 star review, summed up in 2 words: just alright.

A proper hangout. I can’t speak for the food, but the beers are cold, the staff is friendly, and the Scotch is just smooth enough to soothe that fire in your throat. Oh wait, it’s what causes the fire in your throat. I don’t really like Scotch.

Pub lunch was mooted as a plan. Offer was taken up. The cry of ‘we just got a flat and have hee to the haw money in our poor we pockets, so make it cheap’ went up from my lunch date, so I thought of this place. Cheap(ish), central location, nae fancy pants, trendy stuff going on here. Effectively an old man pub(standing where O’Neils used to be) that serves pub grub. Mind blowing, no. Belly filling pub grub served up swiftly and hits the spot, yes. One to keep in mind, but don’t expect a mind blowing experience. Leaves you thinking ‘Wow, I’m not hungry anymore and I ain’t skint neither. Win.‘ Word.
