If you want to enjoy some delicious Mother India’s food at home get yourself along to Dining In with Mother India! The food is the same high quality you’d get in the restaurants and there’s a good variety of starters, mains, side dishes and sundries to take away and heat at home. On Saturday, we picked ourselves up a tasty meal of aloo saag dosas, veg pakora, tarka dal, mixed veg curry, aloo saag, South Indian garlic chilli chicken, rice and roti. Phew! It’s difficult to stop adding more items when you’re surrounded by so many tempting options! For under £30, three of us ate very well(and I had enough left over for Sunday’s dinner too!). The tarka dal was just as good as I’ve had previously in the restaurant and the mixed veg curry was lovely with big chunks of potato, courgette, cauliflower, carrot and peas. The veggie dishes come in a smaller size and are classed as side dishes but don’t be fooled — one of these is plenty and the main dish size could easily be shared between two. There’s a meal deal for two available — £9.50 for 2 chicken dishes(smaller size), rice, naan, veggie side dish and salad.

I love Mother India and that’s good because it’s literally a two minute walk from home! We always use the ‘Dining In’ option(a fancy way of saying takeaway!) rather than queuing for ages on a cold street to get a table inside the main restaurant but now I know why these people queue… the food is lovely! We almost always have the Aloo Saag together with a Potato and Cabbage dish and some Mushroom Rice — always tasty, often quite spicy but superb all the same. I’ve also had their chilli garlic chicken, chicken tikka chasni and lamb saag — and I’ve never been disappointed with the taste or quality. Meals willbe prepared with no butter or ghee for the vegan options. If you don’t fancy sitting in or the takeaway, they also offer cold dishes that you can heat up at home and in that respect they have a special deal for 2 for £9.50 that’s worth looking at. Can’t recommend this place highly enough… curry winner!

OMG… loved the food! Our favorites the veggie anything. Excellent Samosa and exquisite garlic naan. Decided to try because of location but ended up with a most amazing meal. We did take out to accommodate our 3 month baby. We are here in Glasglow for another few days. We are sure going to fit in at least one more meal! Don’t hesitate explore the menu… all of our 7 dishes were fabulous.

Saturday brought a cheeky wee surprise visit to this little restaurant. After a bit of a pub crawl we gave this place a chance as they had free space to fit four of us in with no booking. I ain’t normally a fan of eating out for Indian food as often I think the quality of it is rather poor and it is usually far from authentic. That said when a restaurant gets it right it can be awesome. The food here was ok. Pakora to start was really nice, the chicken curry was quite tasty but pretty standard and the nan was a bit boring and flat. All in the food could be an overall 3 or a 4. Sadly there were other major flaws. The service was appalling! Really slow and they forgot our popadoms completely. That I can handle, we complained and they apologised. The other problem was still to come though. The bill came and the popadoms and onions were still on there. Ok a mistake as they were ordered, but there was also an extra round of beers added on! All sorted when we complained, but very strange all the same. I’m swaying here on the stars. I’m gonna go positive and forget the issues and put them down to genuine mistakes. Based on the food its 3 stars for the food.

Our final Pakora Passport outing! *sniff!* What a fun experience it was, and how nice it was to go to Mother India for our last outing. I decided to put my fate in Joe H’s hands and take his recommendations for food — I had a garlic chicken dosa followed by lime and ginger curry with scallops. The dosa was delicious — flavoursome, spicy and really well balanced flavours. I definitely need more dosa in my life. The lime and ginger curry was also really tasty and the scallops were plump and perfectly cooked, with 4 to a portion which is great for the price. Service was perfect — Mac really looked after us and nothing was ever too much trouble. For a good value meal, with delicious flavours and a relaxed setting, I can’t think of many other places I’d rather dine.

I came with my partner on a Friday on the of chance of a table, they where busy and several people where before us also looking for a table. Within half an hour we where seated, we chose a selection of four dishes to accompany our rice and nan bread selection & a bottle of wine. The meal was most enjoyable but got the feeling that we where being constantly being stared at by staff, I had the feeling that they wanted us out sharp as we where given the bill half way through the meal that was supposed to be for another table, luckily the supervisor spotted the problem and rectified it.

The people here are ace. I was enticed in by an awesome deal they have — you get a bowl of black lentil daal, with a side salad and wholegrain chapati for £3.50. Total bargain! Unfortunately, when it arrived, it had cream in it, and being vegan, this wasn’t going to work for me at all. This of course was completely my fault because I hadn’t asked — I had just assumed it would be vegan, as their other daals usually are. But they were SONICE about it! They didn’t make a fuss, they were completely understanding, and immediately brought me a different daal, with no dairy, and didn’t even charge me for the first one, which is pretty cool given that it was my fault in the first place. The other daal was delicious, just the right side of spicy, with lovely fresh coriander on top, and filling — just right for a drizzly autumn day. The service is super quick, and friendly. And I’d say that if you’re used to eating dairy, you would love the black lentil daal — it was very creamy and rich. I also pop in here sometimes for their take away deal. You get a meal for 2 for £8.50. It’s cold and you heat it up when you get home, so again, you get your food really quickly. You’d think with all this cheapness that the quality would be compromised, but it’s not — the food is really high quality and very good indeed. The portions are small on the take away deal — last time I bought it I ate the lot myself, like the total curry grubber that I am. But I was really hungry! For the vegans amongst us, generally their veggie options are vegan too, as they don’t use butter. It’s an excellent wee place.

Okay. now I know the Dhabba is one of my favourite places, as is Mother India’s café next door. I fear writing this review, will mean I struggle to get a table at this gem of a place… but you need to know about this restaurant! It’s the same owners as next doors MI Café. but a different kitchen, menu & Chef. You are in for a food sensation shock. This is more what my mum would have cooked growing up, but I’m sorry to say. even better…(Sorry Mum!) Service is great and friendly. It’s small, busy and well worth the wait — try and book in advance is a must if you want to try fantastic food. I eat here 2 – 3 times a week & my waistline is reflecting that. Personal favourites: Chicken Saag, Chicken Dopiaza, Simple Lamb Curry, Free range Chicken Curry, Monkfish with lentils, Keema with Peas. Chapattis are spot on as the accompany to the dishes. You WILLNOT be disappointed in the slightest. You Gotta Eat Here — for sure :-D

I have gone here for take away or as an alternative for when Mother India, right next door, has a long wait. It is delicious and I am not sure why I don’t make it a destination more often. As for take away food you will not be disappointed. You can grab pre-made dishes from their fridge area or order off the menu to go, or stay. The portion sizes are enough for two or left overs and the quality doesn’t waver between going home or dining in. The menu is different from Mother India so don’t look for the same dishes, do expect the same flavourful quality.

A regular visitor to the adjoining sister concern Mother Indian Café which is always a great experience. Me and my buddy Taj thought we would give this a shot as the menu is completely different. The food was really 10/10, i would almost go to the extent of saying that it may have just beaten the high bar set by next door. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and great service too, though they did get a bit busier towards the end of our dining with the big queue of people lining up to take home the precooked chilled foods which according to my friend who had previously bought some of for a picnic is also equally magnificent in authenticity. So will definitely be back very soon and really recommended.

How many times am I going to review /re-review this place? As many times as they surprise me. In order to avoid a loud event at the pub across the street from our house, the wife and I decided to go out and have a nice meal. Enjoy ourselves while a band played in the neighbouring parking lot. We both agreed that Dining In was our restaurant destination. We have almost exclusively used this place as a takeaway. This does make sense since they do operate as a very efficient takeaway with a large cooler of pre-made curries and a daily meal deal. But since we were avoiding noise at home, we sat down. As I joked to the waiter we are dining in at Dining In. Crap joke but he laughed. So, a couple things. They now have a liquor licence. That is new. You used to have to bring in your own alcohol and they would charge a small corkage fee. There is kingfisher beer and red and white wine, which is now available in the restaurant. This makes the whole thing a lot easier. Next, I did not know how much better this food was fresh and hot. There is a world of difference when it has not been sitting in a bag while we drive back home. The nan bread was slightly crispy and wonderfully soft in the centre. My chicken bhoona had a fantastic spiciness that had not been tempered by the trip home. Finally, the wife loves the Tarka Dhal but it normally separates by the time she eats it. Here it was more amazing(amazing-er). The portions are smaller when you eat in but I was not bothered. Simply gave me more options to try more stuff. Finished off the full curry which I have trouble doing with the takeaway portions. So, no issues there. Next time you think about grabbing something quickly from this place, think again and maybe just sit down and have it in the restaurant this time. I was pleasantly surprised. 5 Star Plus baby!

It’s a Friday night. I want a curry. A good quality curry, not one from a greasy take away that also sells kebabs. I want plenty of vegetarian options. But I want to eat it at home. Wearing my pyjamas watching Celebrity Big Brother. I don’t want much do I? But thanks to Dine in at Mother India, all my requirements of a Friday night can now be met. The same food served at one of Glasgow’s best curry restaurants eaten in the comfort of my own home. In my pyjamas. Bliss.

Not another deli, groaned the West End. But this place is different. Run by the same people who brought us the truly fantastic Mother India’s Café, the adjoining Dining In stocks all you need to recreate the restaurant experience in your own home, in terms of the food anyway. Herbs, spices, meat, seafood, pre-prepared meals, it’s all here, and with a frequently-changing menu, it’s always worth checking out some of the specials. The food, of course, can only go so far in helping to recreate a night out at the deli’s next door neighbour. For that, I suggest standing outside your house for an hour and have your partner or flatmate come every 10 minutes to tell you«it should just be another five minutes now». That’s the Mother India I know and love.

Well, what a gem this place is. A deli come eatery stuck right next to the mother India café this place has been receiving rave reviews left right and centre and its not difficult to see why. Why a fine range of sundries, canned, bottled etc and a sumptuous selection of lunch orientated grub this a real culinary delight for all those with a taste for Indian grub. With daily specials and offers its not hard to drag your wee bum in here for a tasty treat and maybe pick up something for later as well. Priced reasonably considering the quality of whats on offer, ‘dining in’ is a real treat and a welcome new take on Indian dining.
