Cranachan is one of my favourite places to go if I’m in the mood for a cup of tea and a scone, a nice or lunch or afternoon tea! I met my friend there today(that#‘s Unilocal commitment for you!) and we have a lovely afternoon tea. On arrival, we were seated straight away and selected the afternoon tea deal from the menu. For £12.95 each(or upgrade to include a prosecco which is £16.95 each) we got a selection of sandwiches, cakes, scones and Cranachan. It is worth noting that although the menu states you well be served cheese, egg mayo and salmon sandwiches, you can substitute any of these for any of the other sandwich fillings on the menu free of charge. We went for the cheese & pickle and the chicken & salad sandwiches. I chose to have tea(which was served in the most adorable tea pot that I really wanted to take home) and normally as my friend does not drink tea or coffee, she can substitute this for a soft drink. We have been here several times and she has always been allowed to do this, but they must have changed their policy because she was not allowed to today. She ordered a drink instead. I do think they could be a bit more flexible on this rule(or charge a small supplement) as there are people who enjoy afternoon tea but don’t necessarily like tea or coffee. The scones were delicious, crammed with cream and jam which is never a bad thing! The Cranachan was really strong, but very tasty. The selection of cakes included: ginger cake, lemon cake and a chocolate cake(containing biscuits and caramel — heaven!). The chocolate and ginger cakes were both lovely but neither of us liked the lemon cake. The cheese and pickle sandwiches were definitely over fave(the chicken was a bit of a let down) but overall, it was very good. The staff are very attentive and friendly, greeting you with a warm welcome and making sure to say bye as you leave. I really enjoy coming here and for afternoon tea, it is definitely great value for money!

This is where I go to if I’m in the city centre and want coffee and cake that’s not mass produced. The Cranachan cake is always light and delicious. On this occasion, I had a lunch of cream of cauliflower soup, which was very good indeed, though the bread felt under baked to me, though still tasty. I had a slice of Carrot and Pistachio cake with my coffee. It was good though I’d have preferred a little more frosting on top. Staff are always friendly and service of usually very good. I think it’s pretty reasonably priced too.

Had a lovely lunch with friends and family here. Would recommend the Cullen skink, Macsween haggis and Cranachan(feat. a pork terrine & other yummies). Great service! I’d definitely return.

«scone» Reviewed 18 February 2012 visited sat 18th Feb — 10:30. It was OK. Nothing more, nothing less. The scone tasted like a scone and the coffee was, coffee… Staff were perfectly pleasant(except for the coffee making guy, who couldn’t be bothered to take our order) and I’d probably go back… Visited February 2012 3 of 5 stars Value 4 of 5 stars Atmosphere 3 of 5 stars Service 3 of 5 stars Food

Excellent spot. High quality food with a Scottish flair; excellent and friendly service; all at a nice price. Kids loved it as well!
