I had my wedding reception here — we wanted something a little different, but also not too far to travel from the registry office. We booked afternoon tea for 32 for the Monday at 2pm. This gave us 2 hours which was plenty of time. The restaurant wasnt closed for a private party, but given that it was a Monday, it was quiet and felt like it was our own private party. My in laws arraged for drinks vouchers for all the guests, and tea was served with the treats. The staff went out of their way to accomodate our requests — we had a few vegetarians and also my father in law has a choclate allergy, the chef had made a stand just for him. As it was my wedding day, everything was a bit of a blur, but I do know we had so many compliements from the guests about the afternoon tea and the venue itself. The views were pretty and the rooftop allowed us all to get some fresh air in between snacks without having to leave the party(and the smokers, their nicotine hit). Hubby and I had to leave for wedding pictures before the end, but my sister ended up dropping off boxes of goodies. The staff boxed up all that was left and handed it out at the end of the day. From memory, the afternoon tea itself was ok, we had no issues with the selection — it was exactly what we wanted after the ceremony — a room with some cakes and sandwiches and a good cup of tea.

What a shame our visit last night and this morning just left us feeling blahhhhh! We’ve stayed here at least once a year for too long to remember but this visit we sadly noted a deterioration. Service was just not with a smile, sad waiter makes for a sad diner. No haggis, no breakfast rolls… I mention this because I missed it but so did our international visitors. What a shame not to take every opportunity to show our identity off. I love the roof top view from Windows restaurant, it’s one if it’s most endearing features, and this morning Glasgow was bathed in a veil of fog… I could sit there with a coffee and easily wile away a few hours.

We came here for a business dinner. We were a party of 21. We wrote our order down and submitted it early in an effort to assist. The staff was pleasant enough. I wish I could say the same about the food. Several people in our party all felt as if the cook went to put a dash of salt and the lid fell off. The food was BEYOND salty! Drink service was comically slow. We had finished our starters before our drinks arrived. I personally had fish n chips. The fish was not crispy at all. Not recommended.

Windows restaurant is owned by the same people that own Waxy O’Connors so I think it is safe to say that they are into things a little out of the ordinary like this rooftop restaurant. The interior was nice and just a bit plain from what |I was expecting having been in Waxy O’Connors. The food similarly was a bit disappointing, they didn’t seem to have done anything with the menu except quirky touches but nothing cooking related. The service was good and with many smiles and attentitive gestures.

Windows Restaurant is a weird one. We were also disappointed by the view. Maybe it being nighttime and peeing with rain didn’t help though haha. The food was pretty good, and not too expensive. I had scallops, which were well cooked and served with black pudding(yuck) and a poached egg. Unfortunately in the kitchen, they had forgotten to put the scallops on the plate, so it had to be sent back to get the scallops. The staff were really friendly and apologetic. Stu had guinea fowl with banana potatoes. Banana potatoes!!! I suppose you could guess what banana potatoes are? Perhaps mashed potato mixed with some banana purée? No. Completely normal potatoes set in a banana-shaped mould. It’s actually the weirdest thing ever. No reason for the banana shape, except I expect someone thought it would be cool. The décor was as you would expect: all cream and gold and a bit boring. To conclude: an ok restaurant, but a few faults and BANANASHAPEDPOTATOESAREJUSTWEIRD.

Described as ‘Glasgow’s only rooftop restaurant’ where the food ‘is only surpassed by the view’, I decided to take my boyfriend to Windows Restaurant, part of the Carlton George Hotel, as a birthday treat. Having recently visited The Lighthouse, an architecture museum which offers panoramic viewing decks over Glasgow’s skyline, I was expecting the view from Windows Restaurant to be something similar. However when we reached the 7th floor of the hotel and walked into the restaurant, we were immediately disappointed. Yes the restaurant is roof-top, however the roof needed to be a few stories higher to escape the dismal view of the 1960s architecture immediately across the road(the building of New Look clothes shop). You could see the beautiful stone spire and clock at Nelson Mandela Place however it was a small condolence for what was a largely disappointing outlook. The restaurant itself was fine, but unfortunately nothing more. White table cloths with slightly dated décor; it could have done with some sprucing up. We were impressed with the prices of food(wine was over-priced though) and my boyfriend enjoyed his Salmon main course. As a vegetarian, I’m accustomed to lack of choice however my only option was a Cous Cous dish which not only needed to be re-heated but was largely tasteless– I could easily replicate the dish at home –and I’m not a good cook. I almost feel bad for such a negative review as the waiting staff were incredibly friendly and efficient(and sincerely apologetic when my food was cold), however the reasonable prices and friendly service wont be enough to make me return to such a mediocre restaurant.
