Came here last Saturday late afternoon and it was actually one of the only cafes around here that wasn’t nearly closing. What was the other cafes loss was definitely our gain as we hadn’t managed to pop in here before now and I’m so glad we did. It’s quite a small café(only about 7 tables) & apart from 1 other lady we were he only ones dining in. Since the new owners have taken over they’ve done the place up really nicely, the atmosphere was very relaxed & calm; probably this was helped by our soundtrack of what I can only hazard a guess was called something like ‘Now That’s What I Call Chill-out’ and we did giggle when the theme tune to The X-Files came on! Brilliant. The guy serving was super friendly and gave us our menus and explained a few dishes/specials of the day to us without being pushy. The menu is pretty extensive but with a focus on café-style food(sandwiches, baked potatoes, etc.) and bigger dishes such as burgers, chicken skewers, ‘special’ macaroni cheese and a curry of the day. There was a option also of 2 courses for £8.50 and as much as I was tempted we both opted for something not quite as big. I had the(chicken) curry of the day(I think it was about £5.50) and my boyfriend had a soup and sandwich(again around £4/5). The lovely guy explained I could choose to have either chicken, pork or mixed veg in my curry and that with the soup & sandwich my partner could have either Mushroom or Minestrone soup & a sandwich, panini or wrap. He chose mushroom soup with a chicken mayo panini. For drinks they have a small selection of alcoholic spirits, bottled beer(I spotted Innis & Gunn & Budweiser), soft drinks & coffee and teas. I went for a San Pellegrino Limonata and my boyfriend had his fave; Irn Bru! Both our meals were really good, quality food. My partner devoured his and didn’t stop for air and my chicken curry(with basmati rice, chapati and riata) was absolutely delicious. As Donald said in his review; it was a lot better than a curry from some restuarants I’ve been to. Yum. I thought it was really sweet that halfway through eating the actual chef guy came out to ask if everything was okay and later on after our meal when the waiter asked us the same question he seemed genuinely chuffed to bits and said ‘I’m really happy to hear that’ I asked if I could get a Americano to take away and again the waiter was very obliging even bringing a wee jug of milk over so I could add my own milk. The coffee was good. Not amazing but I’ll reserve judgment until I’ve tried another coffee. I must note this place does All Day Breakfasts(veggie one too) which not many places in this area do & they sounded really good. I think they were around £6. We’ll definitely be back to try one. They also have free Wi-Fi, do loyalty cards here and gave us nice sweeties with our bill :-) I really hope this place does well as they deserve it.

I gave this new place a try at lunchtime, with one look on the specials board I instantly chose the lamb curry, before looking at the regular menu that was a pleasant surprise from the usual burger & pulled pork that is always on offer everywhere I go. The specials board was pretty cheap with baked potatoes for around £4 and the lamb curry £7. It wasn’t a surprise that I had a better curry here than most Indian restaurants serve nearby. Coffee & cake special always on at £3.00.
