I often walked past this place and wondered how can anyone make a profit on their lunch time menu, with many items being priced at £2.50 and at that price don’t expect quality. My habit is coming to these sort of places when I’ve had a few drinks and think f*ck it and end up buying something that l regret later. From what l can remember the chips had an aftertaste as if they where a few days old or the potatoes had been cut a few days previously, they gave a polystyrene kind of chewiness. The fish was like rubber as if it had Been left in the fryer five minutes extra then left in the display for another two hours. None of the staff ware uniforms. Not a place that l would recommend if you like fish & chips

Ok so it’s not like you would be expecting gourmet dining in here. Cheap prices but the quality and quantities put even that to shame. Undercooked and cold chips. Overcooked fish. It isn’t exactly a hard art cooking in a fryer. They have a wide menu but don’t seem to be able to cook anything very well. This place won’t be getting a return visit. No matter how many beers I’ve had. It’s convenient location opposite Kelvingrove makes it a big tourist trap, It’s a shame because it is such a bad example of chip shops in Glasgow.

Café Orlando is a classier branch of chip shop. You can tell that instantly from its swanky fronting, checkerboard floor tiles and there’s no neon signage in sight. As the other reviewers have stated, I’m unsure what is going on with this place — looks like the lease sign has been there for a while — but everytime I pass by there’s always a few people filing in. I used to go here quite a lot, on the rare occasion we get some sunshine and I go to the park. Its location is ideal for park goers and museum fanatics — although it is ironically next door neighbours with the sports hall, so no doubt people have cancelled out their workout with a fat injection. Speaking of fat, I wouldn’t say this place ladle the grease on their food, and as Steven said it’s a decent enough wee place to grab a chip roll en route elsewhere if yer starvin’. They have also recently introduced single fish or sausage suppers, and downsized some portions so you can get them a bit cheaper. This is great if you’re not wanting to load up on chips and spend a fiver on them. I like this place, and hope the lease sign isn’t a death sentence for Orlando since it does the job nicely!

I’m fully aware that getting chips on the way home from a workout in Kelvinhall doesn’t really make any sense, however. This is a decent enough wee chippy on a good location that, as has been mentioned before, is rarely busy. Last time I went past they were advertising a mini fish supper for £2.50 or something ridiculous, a trend lately for chip shops noticing a significant drop in sales of the once staple fish supper. Might pick one up next time I am up here, but I’m only ever up here when I go rock climbing so getting fish and chips should surely counter balance my workout even more than a bad of chips. Hmph. There’s some seating inside which is really nice, looking out on Kelvingrove Art Gallery. The pizzas look decent as well. Worthy of investigation if you have a craving for something warm on the move, with a notable lack of such establishments up this way.

I’m not sure if I was drawn to this place because of the food options or the slightly old school Italian chip shop feel to the signage… if i’m being honest I think its the latter. Despite it cracking location(directly across from the Kelvingrove art museum), i’ve noted for a while that this place has been up for lease and that whenever I pass by its not exactly busy. Not sure if this is a reflection on the quality of fare offered or of the changing times we live in and the place(plaice…sorry) of ye olde chip shop in this market. Anyway, enough of this. Popped in here on a couple of occasions, once for ice cream in January last year(yes we were stupid and yes it was bloody cold) and once for chips last week. Both were decent but nothing special, but then again who ever goes into a chippy expecting something special… except for Allan’s Chippy in Paisley… that’s a place where dreams come true, eh maw? Anyway, excuse me while I pitter patter back for nostalgia lane and trundle down reality highway. Chip shop, ok. Grub, OK, location, kick bottom.
