Chabby Chic? No, that would take thinking. It has its uses though… It’s battle-weary, been kicked, punched, biten, scratched and bruised, but occasionally Beanscene receives my charity just like the begger I feel sorry for holding that sodden paper cup. The coffee quality is still good, but the food is distinctly avarage and it’s hit or miss whether the staff will crack a smile. But no doubt I’ll be back to meet up with friends, because that’s one of it’s saving graces — space. Another plus is it’s open late which is great if you need to work, drink lots of coffee and wire yourself in. It’d be nice if they updated their WiFi system, tough — it can be slow and drops out, but I suppose that gives you time to order more coffee :-/

Popped in here for a pre-brunch coffee at the weekend, mostly because I was walking past. It sits directly across from Kelvingrove Art Gallery so even on a dreich grey day the view is pretty spectacular, and whilst my latte wasn’t the best I’ve had it was good enough to get me through to brunch. The staff were friendly and helpful, the range of food is your pretty bog standard fare and whilst I like the layout, with a heavy emphasis on wood(floors, chairs, seats, tables), it looks a little beaten up and in need of some TLC. Still, you get what you pay for, and for a quick respite from the rain and a reasonably good cup of coffee, Beanscene was just right.

Beanscene is just a bit tired and bland these days. It doesn’t seem to have changed in any way, and this branch in particular tends to look a bit grubby. I’ve never eaten at a Beanscene and been impressed, so now I avoid the food. I popped in here to have a cup of tea and use their wifi. All credit to them, their cup of tea was fine and you get a token to use the wifi for an hour. I needed to make a skype call, but found the wifi really wasn’t up to scratch and the call kept dropping out. Also, I went to use the bathroom and when I came back, a couple of guys had sat themselves right where I was sitting, despite my full cup of tea and jacket being there. I found this really weird. Not Beanscene’s fault though, obviously. This store in particular attracts a lot of tourists as well as families. I’m actually not sure if locals would even visit here, especially seeing as there are nicer places along Argyle Street and Dumbarton Road. Beanscene, I think you need a revamp — the furniture, as well as your menu. Until then, I won’t be back.

Decent lattes. Yummy cakes. Cute blonde waitress has nicest bum I’ve seen. Great for reading the paper in a comfy sofa on a Sunday AM. Don’t hang around beyond 11.00 though or the west end pram and buggy mafia make it hard to doze off.

I’m not entirely sure this place knows what it is. On any given weekend this joint is nappy to bonnet filled with kids, wains, babies, bairns and the odd parental unit pushing, pulling, cooing and calming said creatures. This is fine. I have two of them of my own. My issue comes from the level of the music in the place, given that it’s already pretty freakin loud with all the weans kicking about! Guys… it’s Sunday. Let’s just tone it doon a bit eh? Everything else was pretty much standard. Nothing fancy. Nothing flash. Just a place to sit, eat, drink and walk away without feeling you’ve been too ripped. Done.

Popped in here once again as for some sad reason I feel the urge to seek out the illusive«FOODFOR A FIVER» Deal they’re still advertising: Salad or Sandwich + Hot or cold drink + Piece of fruit or bag of crisps“ 4 months down the line and guess what? STILL no salad! WHYADVERTISE???

Just popped in for some takeaway drinks and cakes after a visit to the Art Galleries. The guy serving looked out of the window and noticed I was part of a small group of 2 adults and 3 children. He sighed, gave them a dirty look and seemed to pray we were not sitting in. He couldn’t manage to get my small order right, and did not offer a bag. He started serving the man behind me, over the top of me as I started packing my own bag with my purchases. Awful place, awful service, awful staff. Why would you get a job in a café if you cannot bear to serve the public? Beanscene should really be ashamed of the way their shops are being run.

Great atmosphere, good coffee and food and great location — what’s not to like? A must every time I’m visiting Glasgow.

This is my favourite of the Beanscenes, and not just because it’s the only one within walking distance from my flat! It’s really nicely decorated, with framed photographs and pieces of artwork adorning the walls. It’s also decked out with some wonderfully sumptuous sofas, which make it really very difficult to decide when it’s time to leave… With a great array of food and drinks(chai latte chai latte chai latte!) you’re only difficulty here will be trying to chose between the pizza or the crepes(both of which are included in a couple of early evening meal deals which are worth checking out). The staff are friendly and the wifi is free — could you want anything else?! Oh, aside from the marvellous view of Kelvingrove Art Gallery of course.

Beanscene ‘the coffee and music house’ is coffee and a nice environment, it is never too busy when I am there and there seems to be alot more space, and room to chill out. The fact that the place is much the same as the other places that sell coffee by nature make it not particularly somewhere that stands out, but I am happy to pop in when I am passing. The prices are a bit high but in comparison to places like Starbucks I guess they are not too bad. I love that they offer good wholesome healthy things like Stoats Oats instant porridge, that they will put soya milk in if you do so desire. I do, as I am never going to get off this healthy kick I have found myself on. I would go here just for this, and the fact that the place isn’t as mainstream as Starbucks is. It may be, only just, a little more underdog meaning to me that they might care a little more. Try the Stoats oats and come here for a comfy seat on a soft sofa.

Another Beanscene to be disappointed by? This one isn’t too bad: the outside area is sheltered, but the coffee is still sour and the staff are not attentive. Unlike many other ‘scenes, this one does not have the baby prams and the noise: it is pretty small though, and caters more to students than passersby. I am not likely to be converted to the Beanscene now: it is a chain that has lost any idiosyncrasy and goes for the brown and beige tones beloved of «polite» bars: it is, at least, better than the soulless café inside the opposite museum.

This branch of Beanscene is big, bright and airy, filled with big comfy couches to sink into with a good cup of coffee after a long day of sightseeing or shopping in Glasgow’s west end. This place is in an ideal spot for those visiting local attractions such as The Museum of Transport and Kelvingrove Art Gallery, and is one of the best places around for a really good cup of coffee in cool and comfortable surroundings. I particularly like the amount of windows in this branch, allowing natural light to flood in and creating a lovely setting for an afternoon with a cup of coffee and a good book.

Another Beanscene that’s well positioned to pick up a take-away coffee from before going through the park or walking between the city centre and the west end along Argyle Street. Although this branch does feel a bit isolated because it’s not in a row of shops but I think they get mostly local business and visitors to the Art Galleries coming in. When I have visited this branch it’s been when I’ve been doing exactly that, the café in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery had closed a bit early for our liking, about 4pm on a Sunday I think, so we ventured over the road to the ‘Scene. As usual great service and just about enough space to get a buggy through the tables, although there is an awkward wee step and double door issue on the way in. The usual selection of coffee and juice type drinks with a small but perfectly formed choice of hot foods and cakes.

Directly opposite the City’s Art Galleries and Museum this is a lovely coffee house, does great coffees, reasonably priced food(comparable with good pub grub) although the cakes and soft drinks are a little pricey. Good access, and friendly disposition for families with young kids. There are always people using their laptops and reading papers too, a nice, ecclectic mix of folk. After your coffee you can take a walk around the museum or take your coffee with you and meander along the Kelvin Way and down into the park.
