Came to Amore in March of 2014 in honour of a workmate who was retiring to move to the Scottish isles to build his own home. Graham was to this day one of the nicest chaps I’ve ever met, which is more than can be said for the rest of the freaks that workers alongside us — minus a few. Anyway we headed to Amore before going to waxy o’conner’s for an evening of heavy drinking with a bunch of retards. The food in Amore was absolutely top notch though! I can’t even remember what I had and I still stand by my analysis! I think it was some kind of pasta with Italian sausage. I understand that this is an old review and it was before I was serious about food critique, but I feel that I owe it to Amore to encourage the public to pay a visit!

First visit with some friends and I’m sure we’ll be back. It was 6.30pm and packed so I’m glad we booked. The tables are also packed in so it is quite noisy but once seated you don’t feel crammed in, more like the place has a buzz about it. We all had a main & dessert both portions of which were huge and everyone enjoyed their dinner. Strangely the waiters came over during the meal every so often to check we were enjoying it but were nowhere to be seen when it came to paying. As only two of us were drinking it was good to see they do a ½ carafe as that was enough for us.

Well my review is simply based on food I haddock it is not an exhaustive am overall review. Based on service it was good staffs very friendly and responsive. I have Minestrone soup, fish and chips and Tiramisu. Minestrone — 5* probably the best I had until now. Fish and Chips — 3* it is my mistake to eat fish and chips in a Italian restaurant. It was a bit on dry side. Tiramisu — 4* wonderful

Whiling away a pre-lunch hour in Blackfriars my mind turned to pizza. I was obsessing, but where to go. I had originally meant to go to Paesano, but it wasn’t open yet so where would be best round the Merchant Square area. I thought about it and came up with Amore, pizza is what it does best, so the three of us set off for lunch. It’s a bright, large and contemporary Italian, but it’s deceptively busy, and actually a bit cramped with a table or two too many. They found us a table immediately though, the service is always good here and authentically Italian. I was actually a bit disappointed when my companions opted for tex-mex options, did I not mention it’s known for pizza? Well I went for a Crostino Alla Rabbie Burns(yes, really) and Diavolo pizza. First the Crostino, well it’s covered in haggis and pork meatballs and that’s the«Rabbie Burns» contribution. Yep, the meatballs stayed together and were nicely seasoned, and the sauce was great, but the crostino wasn’t crostino, it wasn’t toasted at all and therefore the bread became a soggy, tomatoey mess… still tasted good though and as I said it’s all about the pizza. And the pizza was indeed proper, and huge, and made up for any minor indiscretions. Lots of tomato, lots of cheese, lots of chilli, and lots of spicy sausage on a thin, but robust base. I ate it with gusto, it was the only reason I came here.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I found out we were going to Amore. I did my usual and had a peak at the menu before hand and thought I have no idea what to order. We had starters in another restaurant is was straight in to our mains. I had pasta with chicken and broccoli. It was perfect and everything I would want in an Italian meal, washed down with a Peroni. I always think it’s a very good sign if a place busy and this place was jumping not an empty table in sight. Right now you are probably thinking oh it must have been a Saturday night at a prime time! No you are Wrong! Wednesday about 8pm and it’s not even right centre of merchant city! Good sign indeed. The staff were great very attentive which can be difficult in busy times. I can’t wait to go back to try more of their fantastic dishes.

Lovely, great price, never disappointed. Popular destination as very busy. Always a good sign.

Had a group of 8 for my birthday on a sat night. Thankfully we had reservations and had no wait for 8pm. The servers were so friendly and sweet. The vibe and bustling energy was so nice to see here in Glasgow. I really liked that I felt that intimate setting at the restaurant and experienced a personable service from our server. I definitely felt like I was back in Italy traveling instead of being in Glasgow. Our server’s Italian accent? Super precious. I wasn’t paying attention when I was ordering(totally my fault) and ordered fried calamari fish fries… I would normally never order a fried entre. Oops. The server took it back and immediately the chief made me my prawn linguine. I was so glad because I did not want to be eating all that fried food for a bday dinner… The Concilio Chardonnay was good. Food was delish. Appetizer delish. Bday dessert was delish. I had a great experience here and was more than satisfied leaving. I would definitely come back! It was kind of a nice break to be away from the Glasgow gloom and rain and enjoy the cozy atmosphere at amore!

J’adore Amore. Ok so its not Italian but it describes how I felt when i left. Well have to say this is one of my better Italian experiences in Glasgow. Great restaurant, magnificent menu with plenty to cater for the most fastidious of all tastes. Veggies will be happy bunnies here! The jolly Cheeky but fun main waiter makes the experience all the more enjoyable. The fact that many of the staff are actually Italian lends to the vibe! I can thoroughly recommend the Jalapeño Peppers Al Formaggio and especially the Casarecce Carbonara Alla Scozzese — pasta with haggis — very original — so original and tasty I have nicked the recipe for myself!!! One tip though — avoid the Italian Cider, it tastes like gnats p*** and just go for a Peronni!!! ;o) The lunch /early menu up till 18:30pm is such a cheap deal; i mean starter and main for £7.95 and delicious they must be having a laugh. At this quality and price its probably one of the best deals in the whole of town. ;o) Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed and neither will your wallet!

The food here was lovely(which is why I was torn between the 4 or 5 star), and was reasonably priced. I had the vegetariana pizza, which had a great balance of vegetables and cheese, while the base was, to my taste, expertly cooked. I visited here on a Saturday evening, and it remained very busy throughout. I’m not sure if how busy the place was was the reason for this, but trying to gain the attention if a waiter was very difficult, taking 3 requests to receive the bill and having difficulty in ordering more drinks, even though we were close to the bar. The atmosphere here was great, and wasn’t noisy for how busy it was. However, one of the reasons for why I’ve opted for four stars is that they frequently dimmed the lights and had flashing, coloured lights along the wall to signify a diners birthday followed by a lot of clapping and happy birthday Lovely for the people in question, but a bit of a conversation killer on a date. That being said, I would very much recommend this place for a group. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and would definitely return with friends.

This is a place I visit at least once a month, as the food is good and it’s cheap and cheerful, but in the best possible way. I’m a huge fan of Italian food in general and even more so when you can have three decent courses for under a tenner. The staff here are incredibly attentive and very friendly, whilst making sure everyone is happy with their meals and being more than happy to cater to individual tastes and requests, offering options such as gluten free pasta. I always go for the minestrone soup, which is like a comforting meal in itself and then I usually have arrabiata with olives, which is absolutely delicious. I have been known to just skip the main altogether and go straight for dessert, as they are very generous with the portions of cheesecake, tiramisu and whatever other daily specials they have on display to tempt you. When dessert hits your thighs, with portions oversized, that’s Amore.

Yeah, was quite nice there. Food was good, but not cheap, which is ok i guess for that kind of establishment. Had a nice wine which i enjoyed. the restaurant was quite crowdy at the time we arrived,(book a table!) the wait staff was friendly and looked for us every few minutes if everything was ok, but for me it kinda felt like routine, not very personal. It is a nice restaurant.

Exceptional value for a lunch, under £8.00 for two courses., in a very popular restaurant with pleasant wait staff.

We had a bad experience last Saturday. The restaurant was very busy and we were given a table that was in a space too small for four people. We complained and were moved. The waiter mixed up our orders for both starters and main course with other tables and one of our main courses was missed out altogether, meaning that the other three had to start eating while the other waited for his meal to be cooked. This was unfortunate as the food was very good. Perhaps one of the problems was the very extensive menu which must be problematic at busy times.

Went last month for dinner and was very pleased with my visit. To start with it was a Friday, I hadn’t long finished work so I was reasonably hungry, I was looking forward to eating as soon as possible to go on and enjoy my evening. Upon arriving we were shown to our table, this is one of the reasons I give it 4 stars, we weren’t given an option where to sit, it was busy, but there was a selection of a few tables. I usually opt for a booth wherever I go, here I felt quite crowded in between a few other dinners. We ordered out food pretty quickly, surprisingly actually as their menu is quite expansive, within 5 – 10 minutes of ordering our food was on our table which I was really pleased with, but at the same time did feel a little rushed — it was a first date, so I would have liked to soak up the atmosphere and chat longer over eating. Finally when paying for the meal I was told they don’t accept Amex, it’s not a big deal, but I like to have the option.

First time visit to Amore & it did not live up to the good things I’d heard about it. Our starters were lovely — hot garlic & chilli prawns & mussels marinara. The prawns had a really nice spicy sauce whilst the mussels were big & plump. The big disappointment for me came when our starters finished. Literally 5 minutes after our starters were taken away, our mains were brought despite saying on the menu they needed 15 minutes to cook the pasta. Both pasta dishes were relatively bland. The prawn linguine stated it had a hot & spicy sauce but instead it was a typical tomato based sauce with no kick to it at all. Similarly, the chicken & pepper penne had the same tomato sauce but this time the only flavour was coming from the roast peppers in the pasta. The restaurant itself has a typical Italian feel to it but it a bit neglected. The female toilets have missing taps & really need a revamp. The bar area where we were seated had all bar chairs on top of the bar which was a bit off putting — surely they should be encouraging people to sit there! I’ve been to quite a few Italian restaurants in Glasgow & would say that this place is not a patch on them.

I’ve been to Amore on more than a few occasions now so I thought it was about time I gave it the review it deserves. Mostly we have partaken in the Early Evening Menu from here which is served 7 days a week, 4pm — 6:30pm and this is £9.95 for 2 courses. From the first time we ever came(not long after it opened) to this day this menu has never disappointed. Always delicious, tasty and well portioned meals for a great price. On the last occasion I had the chicken liver pâté with toast & chutney for starter & my partner had the Italian nachos ~ both were lovely. For mains my partner had a(mega) cheeseburger with onion rings, garlic mayo &(tasty) chips whilst I had my favourite which is the Pollo Milanese. I was told the burger was delicious and my Pollo Milanese was really very good ~ great spaghetti napoletana. For the price you’re paying this is such a great meal and by the end we were both in a total food coma(zzzzz…) and virtually had to be rolled out the restaurant. The waiter was very pleasant and attentive and smiled lots also which, sadly, is a rare things these days ~ so many morose waiting staff out there today… cheer up yo! Doesn’t cost you owt. The table we had this time was great ~ by the window and away from other couples/people in the restaurant. There’s nothing worse than when a restaurant seats you RIGHTNEAR or BESIDE other people in an otherwise quite empty restaurant. *grumble* This has happened here before unfortunately on at least 2 occasions(hence the 4 not 5 stars). I don’t know who’s fault this is: the waiter/ess or the manager? Anyway, whoever it is please try not to do it to us, thank you. The wine is a tad pricey but nice and I can also vouch they make a damn fine French Martini. Yummy yum. I can’t help but feel Amore gets overlooked because of it’s position ~ being SO close to at least 2 other Italian restaurants can’t be easy but I really think if more people gave Amore a go they’d soon fall for it’s charms if not it’s super bargain Early Evening Menu! They also have a cute wee outside part just as you walk into the restaurant that has a few tables for when the weather is nicer and if it wasn’t for the chain-smokers that usually frequent those few tables I’d say it’d be a really rather grand wee spot to soak up the Merchant City atmosphere & feel the Glasgow breeze in your hair(if you have any) whilst supping on a French Martini or wine & munching on some tasty Italian foodage. So I’ll finish with this amazing pun(coz you know I’m a sucker for them) : Amore ~ the A-more you come here the A-more you’ll want to come back!

Amore is so much better inside than outside! The neon sign always put me off but once I went in the food was yummy, service excellent and décor lovely. Best service I’ve had in a while. Seem to have a lot of attentive staff on. Both pizzas and pastas good and the fondue dessert is to die for!

When the world seems to shine like you’ve had too much wine… That’s amore! I have been here a few times now; on a double-date dinner, and a few lunches with classmates. Every single time our servers have had an Italian accent. So I’m assuming they hire servers on the basis of being Italian, looking Italian, or can pull off an Italian accent… eh? eh? eh? It’s a pretty standard Italian restaurant with a variety of offerings. Food was fresh, and you got what you paid for. Service is attentive and friendly. They do a 2 course lunch special for about £6… you can’t beat that! By the end of the meal, you’ve fallen into a food coma. Unfortunately for me, after my most recent visit, I had to walk up the massively steep hill back to the Strathclyde Business School = no bueno. Highlights: location, lunch special and service.

This is a cracking wee authentic Italian restaurant. It’s lovely inside, especially in the evening and is the perfect backdrop to a romantic meal. The lunch menu is reasonably priced, where otherwise, it is a bit expensive. But, you get what you pay for. Everything about it is authentic Italian, including unpronounceable meals on the menu and Italian waiters who actually know what they are talking about and take pride in their work. I had the best steak I have ever had in a restaurant in here one night after my graduation. It was immense. So tasty. I wish it was a magical steak that wouldn’t end, but it did. Sigh They even done a graduation menu, which was cool. A really great Italian that will adequately cater for different tastes and provide a comfortable environment where you can have a nice conversation and enjoy some really good food. Ch-ch-ch-check it out!

Opened in 2008, Amore adds to the already plentiful choice of Italian restaurants on Ingram and cornering Albion Street. Considered design greets you upon entry, and large circular booths can accommodate groups of ten+ without the need for any reshuffling or hassle. The menu currently offers any two courses for £9.95, with starters ranging from homemade chicken liver to mains of top quality haddock fillet. There are plenty of vegetarian options in between. Service can occasionally be slow, but the option of takeaway(with 10% off the list price) helps solve that problem. Just make sure to stock up at the offy afterwards.
